The Marine Corps far surpassed its recruiting goal last month, enlisting 2,233 people, which was 142 percent of its goal, the Pentagon said. The Army recruited 5,681 people, 101 percent of its goal. The Navy and Air Force also met their goals, 2,905 sailors and 2,435 airmen. A Defense Department spokesman, Bryan Whitman, said that if the Marine Corps continued its recruiting success, it could reach its goal of growing to 202,000 people by the end of 2009, more than a year early. end of article

How about retention of those already in? Are they hitting their targets on reenlistments as well?
My Army nephew is re-enlisting. He loves being in the Army. He’s on his way back from Iraq via Kuwait as I write this. Big homecoming planned.
The reflexive lib response is Bad Economy.
The Slimes is reporting this?
I guess the spells the Code Pink witches put on the recruiters didn’t seem to take.
Thousands of uneducated men and women who will be stuk in Irak. /s
God bless him and keep him.
Please tell him thank you from us!
Pam
Of course the MSM will say its because of the poor job market.
I hope the military can convey to him the benefits of showers and toothpaste, though.
That's awesome!
I can only imagine your family's excitement.
He must have done well on that test. Man, I can't even pronounce that job!
But will they teach him to bathe? That's what I'm wondering!
LOL.
When I came home from the Air Force, I had been through Basic Training & Tech School and had been away for 9 months, I woke up in the morning & the first thing I did was make my bed.
My mother, God rest her soul, came down stairs crying. She couldn't believe that the AF got me to do something in 9 months, that she couldn't do in 18 years. LOL
So, yes....expect a clean, sweet smelling boy upon his return.
His sign-up is four years and we can't wait. We've had no sex, drugs, drinking, tattooing, piercing problems with this boy, but he is the Sultan of Slack who believes in minimalism of effort in all things.
He's very bright but unmotivated.....until he looked into the Air Force and the techie stuff got his attention. And the recruiter sergeant apparently made an impact as well.
It's time for him to get the hell out and get started on his life, and I believe the Air Force will be a hugely positive experience for him.
I can tell you from experience.....THAT will change in the very first moments of his arrival. Besides, I wrote the book on slack. Seriously, you must be very proud.
Not yet. I'll be proud when he's actually achieving things.
The feelings now are running between hopeful (that they'll turn him into a man), gratitude (that he's finally found something besides his guitar that's got his interest), and relief (that he'll be getting out of mommy's house and starting to take control of his future).
Are you sure they'll make him brush his teeth and clip his toenails?
LOL
Yes, ma'am. Positively so.
I will. He’s back on American soil. Came through Bangor this afternoon. He will be home with us within days!
We are VERY excited. We are not a military family as most of our generation was female, including myself and 6 sisters, so this is new territory for us. This is my eldest nephew and he is such a smart, great young man who loves his job and his country. There are so many very fine young people in our military. When liberals infer that the only reason kids join the military is because they are out of other options, I want to punch them!
