Crystal Dixon, associate vice president for human resources, was terminated on Thursday following about a week on paid administrative leave and a predisciplinary meeting May 5.

Kudos to this woman for taking a stand. Shame that her free speech was stifled by the Marxist/Communist university at which she was employed...

Funny how free speech only matters when the people in charge agree with your message.

It’s the liberals idea of freedom of speech: it’s all okay, as long as it’s the left’s ideas and beliefs. Makes my blood boil!

Free speech is stifled in ALL U.S. universities. Just ask Larry Summers who merely mentioned in passing that men trump women in math and science. They do... BUT Larry wasn't suppose to hurt the poor widdle feelings of the indiotic, tree-hugging, cat-loving, still single at 40+ feminazi professors at Harvard U.
Politically correct and diversity at the expense of achievers is the rule.

University of Toledo official fired over columnIf nothing in Crystal Dixon's contract with the University of Toledo expressly forbade her from expressing her opinions in print, and if she wrote nothing that was untrue, she has a cause of action against the school for unlawful termination. Is it true that homosexuals have the option of renouncing their homosexuality and beginning to live their lives as heterosexuals? Unquestionably. Is it true that black people don't have the option of renouncing their blackness and beginning to live their lives as white people (Michael Jackson notwithstanding)? Unquestionably.
Ms. Dixon should even now be retaining a good attorney, and also looking around for a good financial advisor to invest the settlement she's going to receive.

Here's the
link to the response she made in the Free Press. It was an expression of opinion, and a defense of the university which she works for, which does put the response in a slightly different category from free speech; she was acting on behalf of her employer.
As to if this is a terminatable offense - if she had incorrectly stated university policy, facts, etc, there might be grounds, but instead, it appears that she made the response factually, expressing her own personal opinion in places, where it's clearly separate from university opinion, etc. Her lawyer should be getting a nice paycheck for the settlement.
I think, honestly, what bothers me most is that someone who works for a small to mid-level university is pulling down $135k a year.

IMO, she didn’t say enough. I hope she sues them big time. The amount of money homos make must be the reason talk radio never mentions stuff like this anymore.

Given her position at the University, it was pretty stupid of her to write this column, and she gave the University little choice but to fire her. If she was a faculty member, it would have been protected as “free speech”, but for an HR person who is charged with managing hiring and other employment matters in accordance with the University’s non-discrimination policy, to go around writing columns for publication that express opposition to that policy makes her an extremely easy, and thus expensive, target for discrimination suits against the University. She made it cost a lot more to keep her than to fire her, so she got fired.

I don't see how she gave the university a legitimate reason to fire her. I did not see anything in her column that disapproved of university policy, or indicated a willingness on her part to disregard university policy concerning gays or anything else. Nor was there any indication that she discriminated against gays in the course of her duties.
She was simply expressing her opinion on homosexuality.
