TAMPA - Deputies have arrested 35-year-old Edward Allen Covington in connection with a gruesome triple murder in Lutz.

He is charged with three counts of first degree murder, three counts of abuse of dead human bodies, one count of cruelty to animals, and one count of violating probation.

He is charged in connection with the murders of Lisa Freiberg and her two children, 7-year-old Zachary and 2-year-old Heather Savannah. Their bodies were discovered inside their mobile home on Mobile Villa Drive in Lutz on Monday.

Hillsborough Chief Deputy Jose Docobo said there was a substantial amount of physical evidence linking Covington to the three deaths.

from yesterday:

LUTZ - Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee has confirmed that Lisa Freiberg, 26, was killed with her children, Zachary, 7, and Heather Savannah, 2, at her mobile home.
“The victims were mutilated; some were dismembered,” Gee said at a news conference this afternoon. “At least one was decapitated.”
There was more than one weapon involved, he said.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement blood-spatter experts will work the scene today along with Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office investigators.
Lisa Freiberg’s mother found the woman and children dead Monday after becoming concerned when she hadn’t heard from Freiberg on Mother’s Day.
Freiberg’s mother forced her way into the home because it was locked, Gee said. She called the sheriff’s office after seeing the bodies.

He also killed the family dog and cut up the children. He beheaded one and cut the genitals off another. Earlier he killed his ex wife’s 3 cats and mutilated them too but was never convicted of it.
This is very sad.

He also was fired by the County jail for physical abuse of the inmates. A couple of other items in his history as well.

Why does it always seem to be the boyfriend that a woman brings into the house?

"Well there was a substantial amount of physical evidence linking Mr. Covington to the three deaths as well as an admission on his part regarding his involvement in the deaths of the three victims," said HCSO Chief Jose Docobo.

Docobo says Covington would not tell them why the victims were murdered. But Docobo says Covington told them how he killed each of the victims, and in which order. Docobo would not share that information with reporters.

Interesting part of the history:

“In January 2005, a 911 call led Tampa police to Covington’s home. An officer asked Covington to come to the door, but he said he couldn’t, a police report states.”

“The officer forced his way in and saw Covington face down on his living room floor, crying. “I don’t want to die like this,” he told the officer, according to the report.”

“Covington was Baker-Acted and taken to the emergency room at St. Joseph’s Hospital, the report states.”

“Police saw three dead cats on Covington’s kitchen floor.”

“There was blood spatter all over the surfaces of the kitchen and in some areas throughout the residence,” the report states. “The cats appeared mutilated and deformed.”

I left out the rest because it describes how the cats were tortured and killed, very distressing. But to me it is a classic instance of a man acting out on animals first. In fact, three cats, mutilated; sounds like he acted out on the animals first, doesn’t it?

Baker acted is Florida speak for involuntary commitment.

Confusing events: killer-boyfriend in closet after having mutilated family on Mothers Day. Police don't identify him as a suspect. Now days later he is the murderer, probation officer sees him with the family the day before, Grandmother finds gruesome scene had children's custody. murdered mother sells food stamps to feed his crack addiction.

Elec chair is too good for this thing!!!!

He's a sadist. I'll bet the mother was last to die...

Charlie Christ needs to make an example of this animal - make sure his death is as quick as the law will allow.

Yes, it’s a fact that lots of murderers start out by torturing and killing animals, either as children or as adults. Seeing animals or people as objects and not as living things allows these sociopaths to carry out their awful crimes.

Evil personified. All I want to do is to get medieval on this thing.

This is the voter base the democrats so ferociously want to give the vote to.

The authorities should not let their guard down even for an instant while moving him to and from the courthouse.
The movie “Silence of the Lambs” comes to mind here. They’re dealing here with a maniacal creature who should be considered extremely dangerous at all times.

I don’t think he’s as smart as “Silence of the Lambs”, certainly as evil though.
