McCain: I was pro-environment before Clinton, Obama
ap on LA Daily News ^ | 5/13/08 | Glen Johnson - ap

NORTH BEND, Wash. - John McCain on Tuesday cast Democratic rivals Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton as latecomers to the environmental battle, saying he would be willing to debate the issue with either of them in the general election to underscore his experience with the issue.

"People will trust my stewardship not only because of my background and knowledge, but also my vision for the future," he told reporters during a news conference at a nature center in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains.

"They have never, to my knowledge, been involved in legislation nor hearings nor engagement on this issue."

McCain cited his travels to global warming hot spots, as well as his work in his home state of Arizona with American Indians, who control broad swaths of property.

He also said the Democrats' plan to auction greenhouse gas emission permits - rather than giving them away, as he proposes - would lead to higher prices for consumers.

"My proposal is doable," said McCain. On Monday, he had sketched out his action plan for global warming.

"You can dictate a lot of things, but you have to unleash the innovative power and entrepreneurship of America in order to achieve these goals," he said.

McCain proposes to cut greenhouse gas emissions 60 percent below 1990 levels by 2050. Obama and Clinton have committed to an 80 percent cut in emissions by 2050, a level favored by many scientists.

"While Barack Obama has brought Republicans and Democrats together around plans to raise our fuel standards and invest in renewable energy, John McCain's `long history' involves opposing countless measures to invest in renewable fuels and alternative energy technology," said Obama spokesman Hari Sevugan.

Clinton spokesman Phil Singer said: "Sen. McCain is welcome to rewrite history if he likes, but the reality is that Senator Clinton has been very active on the issue of climate change. She's even traveled with Sen. McCain a few times on trips that dealt with the issue."

Stewardship, my arse!

Looks like it may not matter much who wins on this issue as they all would seek to do all the wrong things anyway.

A pox on both parties that put dunderheads up as their candidates and dare, no insult, voters to get them elected.

Both parties would rather have limited turn-outs and a smaller voter pool to draw from, it’s a lot easier to sell swill that way.

Why do you think they and the mediabots, hand-in-hand, are working so hard to disengage as many voters as they can this go-around?

Or McCain is simply telling Conservatives to go Pound Sand.

Dear Mr. McCain, I, too, am for the environment. However, I am at least smart enough to know when I am getting a snow job. Global Warming, Global Cooling, all of it is OUT OF OUR HANDS. Only a stupid ninny would fall for that clap-trap.

There isn't a conservative in the Republican party who isn't an environmentalist. Even before John Sidney McCain discovered the term.

But we're supposed to believe his BS because he isn't really a conservative...

Oh sure, very clever.

McCain is moving further to the Left and will take out Obama from the Left Flank.

If he keeps this up, Conservatives may have to vote for Obama in order to keep Socialist McCain out of the White House.

No drilling in Anwar or the North Atlantic, protected polar bears, a disgusting bloated farm bill, McCain out-liberaling liberals, Obamanation on the rise, Israel on it's way out, Islam on the march, gas prices on the rise, open borders and amnesty on the horizon...

Our once mighty nation will be a third world country in ten years if this keeps up.

Even, round numbers such as these are obviously pulled from deep within one's buttocal cavern. Anyone who advocates them should have to describe the precise results to the climate from the proposed reductions and describe the basis whereby the percentages originated. Those proposing the numbers should be laughed about in all settings.

November 2003: "...We were nervous as hell," said Kevin Curtis, vice president of National Environmental Trust, describing the sentiment leading up to last Thursday's Senate vote that defeated the McCain-Lieberman Climate Stewardship Act, 43 to 55. "But it's a great start. This may seem to be a defeat now, but in the end, it's a victory."

The victory lies in the gamesmanship surrounding the landmark bill, which was the first serious congressional attempt to rein in global warming. Three weeks ago, the bill reportedly had only 32 votes firmly in support of it; more than a dozen senators were on the fence. "Our fear was that if the bill pulled in fewer than 40 votes, we'd have screwed ourselves," said Curtis. "But a majority of the undecided senators broke in favor of McCain-Lieberman."

"Translation: Even though the Senate didn't pass the Climate Stewardship Act, which would cap carbon dioxide emissions from industries and create an emissions-trading system, the votes that the bill did attract sent a resounding message to the political machine. "The magic number in the current political climate is 40," said Curtis: A bill that gets at least 40 votes has a fair chance of passing if it's reintroduced, but a bill that gets fewer than 40 is as good as doomed for the foreseeable future...

Source: HERE. Note that Barack was not in the Senate yet and Hillary did sponsor this bill. Further this was the first climate bill--2003--considered by Congress. A great deal of the McCain Bashing lacks any factual basis.

Is McCain on some kind of medication?

Has he made his health records public?

It seems to me he is losing his sanity. Im not joking. It seems he has the mental capacity and judgment of an eight year old boy.

I remember AFTER he lost in the 2000 primary he had his cancer surgery. I remember at the time thinking that he must have been hiding the fact that he had a serious problem during the primary. I have a sneaky suspicion he has third degree case of brain rot and he knows it.

McCain cited his travels to global warming hot spots

Strange wording. If the warming is "global," that implies it's getting warmer all over, so why would there be "hot spots?" Are there also "cold spots," where the polar bears can continue doing their thing just fine as the "hot spots" heat up? Have the warming alarmists only been getting their temperature data from those "hot spots?" And why can't McCain and his friend Hillary get together and (taking a tip from her husband) "put some ice on" those hot spots; then maybe the problem will go away.

It seems they live in Washington and the “power” of the presidency blinds their eyes to the working man. There needs to be an amendment to outlaw a senator from being president. These goons need to understand I am for energy efficiency to save ME money. I want solar panels on my house that generate enough electricity that I can sell it for a profit. I want a car that gets 75 miles to the gallon and has a faster takeoff than my little 4 cylinder Ford Ranger. I want food prices that are fair to the man who farms the land and tills the ground and does not fund the false gods who claim to hold the future of the world in their hands. I want any man who claims to control that which is reserved by God to be revealed for the dangerous evil man that he is and given the opportunity to change the error of his ways without bringing the resulting inevitable oppression.

Hey Mac!
Here’s a clue....You can be an enviromentalist, without being an idiot.

It is possible to use actual facts and science in the promotion of enviromentalism.
It is NOT necessary to make up ridiculous doomsday scenarios to gain people’s attention.
Do not use an environmental agenda to promote:
- wealth transfer,
- population control,
- socialism,
- earth worship, or
- the idea that human existance is evil.

If you don’t like dirty air, then tell the worst polluters to clean up their act. (uh...that would be India and China!)

Don’t pretend you have facts, when it is clear you have NONE!

Take notice that 1) McCain is giving away - not auction - the emissions permits and 2) McCain sets a more reasonable bar than the Democrats 60% versus 80%. I think there is something to be said for taking this issue away from the Democrats’ ability to demagogue it.

We’ve been following the policies advocated by the environmentalists for the last 35 years. We passed the EPA, the Clean Air Act, and the Clean Water Act that many years ago. They are still whining and crying that the sky is falling. Does that mean their policies don’t work, or are they merely being disingenuous?

This is another situation where, no matter how much the U.S. does, it can never be enough. Because the people who make their living off environmentalism don’t want the problem to ever be solved.
