House GOP unveils 'change' agenda for fall (change from closet libs to openly lib)
CNN ^ | 5/14/2008 | Ed Hornick

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sensing trouble in the fall, the House GOP leadership on Wednesday addressed recent losses in special Congressional elections by unleashing a new agenda aimed at changing that party's image.

House Republican leaders pushed the retooled message, which they call "Change You Deserve."

They rolled out the first version Wednesday, which focuses on working mothers and military families.

"This agenda is a reflection of House Republicans' commitment to providing American families with the change they deserve: common-sense solutions to the challenges they face in their daily lives," according to the agenda provided to CNN.

"Today's families face challenges that yesterday's laws don't address. Sixty percent of mothers with children under are 6 are now working outside the home. The majority of families have not one parent working but both parents working."

The agenda goes on to argue that laws need to be changed to provide American families with "more freedom in their jobs; greater health care and retirement security; safer communities; access to quality, affordable education; and the ability for future generations to compete in the global economy."

Sounds like a bunch of BS without specifics. How about change to that slashes the hell out of the federal budget and exposes the fraud of global warming

House Minority Whip Roy Blunt added that the party needs "to do what we need to do over the next few months to make sure the American people connect our message with us."

And this is how they are going to "connect?"
The GOP is freaking doomed.

Former National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Davis, a congressman from Virginia, says Tuesday's loss could lead to a devastating finish come November.
"The Republican reputation is just in the trash can, and if this were a brand of dog food, you would just take it off the shelf, because nobody is buying it," he said.

So keep moving the cans to the left. - yeah, that will solve everything.

when they are gone.

That's something they'll never do. They're on the global warming BS wagon. It's a money making and tax increasing scam and hoax that has them all seeing dollar signs.

The GOP will reap just what they deserve by going along with this nonsense.

Lord help us all.

"Today's families face challenges that yesterday's laws don't address. Sixty percent of mothers with children under are 6 are now working outside the home. The majority of families have not one parent working but both parents working."

And how much of that is because of the expansion of local, state and federal taxes? If the Congress increases programs and taxes, families will have to find a third job to be able to pay for all the "free" stuff.

Republicans in MS did not bother to get out and vote, and a Dem won with no more votes than the Dems have raised in the past. This ‘new’ Republican national agenda is shallow and rather insulting in its socialist way. Gas will be higher in the fall. I don’t think Reps will turn out nationally , burn the gas, to come out for this....and, I think Mississippi was very relevant. This agenda is like a golf shot into the woods with no ball recovery.

I don’t know that this insanity can be fixed; nor do I think it is worth the effort any longer.

The Republican Party has morphed into something unrecognizable, from its Presidential nominee on down to its state parties and candidates.

Created in 1854- Destroyed in 2008.

Nothing lasts forever. It is time for a real Conservative American Party.

Thanks to Lincoln and Reagan, the GOP did destroy two evils: slavery and Soviet Communism.

But the ashheap of history beckons, and the present GOP leadership can not resist the siren call.

"If this isn't a turning point, we're the airplane flying into the mountain. ... If we don't veer off to the side, we're gonna crash and burn this November," he said.

It appears that the GOP has decided that the best way to avoid the mountain is to push the throttles to the firewall. We gave the TWELVE YEARS to do something, four with a Republican president and all they managed was a minor tax cut and to expand government! And now their message is that the government will take care of you? How? With less government and lower taxes and more freedoms?

I am about a half inch from tell the GOP to go pound sand as it looks that there are only two left wing parties to vote for.

This is the fuel “not another damn dime” needs to become a grassroots firestorm.

These guys are on the verge of causing me not to vote, an irresponsible horror I could not imagine even a week ago. I have held firm to the conviction that “incremental” success was better than no success at all, that a 5% chance of conservative judges was better than a 100% chance of liberal ones....but...I’m beginning to wonder if it’s not just time to reject, outright, all of it.

We are not opposed to a national sales tax, one version being the FairTax, but such an endeavor must be accompanied by an elimination of the 16th amendment to prevent the possibility of future congresses straddling the nation with both an income and a sales tax. A flat tax is more easily instituted and will still drastically reduce the size and scope of the Internal Revenue Service and force tax consultants and lawyers into a productive line of work.

Therefore, tax incentives designed to keep industrial and high tech manufacturing and R&D on our shores are imperative. We propose to eliminate all taxes on manufacturers that produce the majority of their products in US based factories.

The two statements contradict each other. It appears the "Falcon" is a bit confused.

No. No confusion whatsoever. Perhaps we should not support elimination of the cap gains tax, or the Bush tax cuts until the entire code is reformed as we want. Anything to cut taxes, especially on our industrial producers right now, is imperative.

Anyone remember 1994? Specific pledges...specific promises...

REPUBLICAN CONTRACT WITH AMERICA

As Republican Members of the House of Representatives and as citizens seeking to join that body we propose not just to change its policies, but even more important, to restore the bonds of trust between the people and their elected representatives.

That is why, in this era of official evasion and posturing, we offer instead a detailed agenda for national renewal, a written commitment with no fine print.

This year's election offers the chance, after four decades of one-party control, to bring to the House a new majority that will transform the way Congress works. That historic change would be the end of government that is too big, too intrusive, and too easy with the public's money. It can be the beginning of a Congress that respects the values and shares the faith of the American family.

Like Lincoln, our first Republican president, we intend to act "with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right." To restore accountability to Congress. To end its cycle of scandal and disgrace. To make us all proud again of the way free people govern themselves.

On the first day of the 104th Congress, the new Republican majority will immediately pass the following major reforms, aimed at restoring the faith and trust of the American people in their government:

Thereafter, within the first 100 days of the 104th Congress, we shall bring to the House Floor the following bills, each to be given full and open debate, each to be given a clear and fair vote and each to be immediately available this day for public inspection and scrutiny.

1. THE FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY ACT: A balanced budget/tax limitation amendment and a legislative line-item veto to restore fiscal responsibility to an out- of-control Congress, requiring them to live under the same budget constraints as families and businesses. (Bill Text) (Description)

2. THE TAKING BACK OUR STREETS ACT: An anti-crime package including stronger truth-in- sentencing, "good faith" exclusionary rule exemptions, effective death penalty provisions, and cuts in social spending from this summer's "crime" bill to fund prison construction and additional law enforcement to keep people secure in their neighborhoods and kids safe in their schools. (Bill Text) (Description)

3. THE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY ACT: Discourage illegitimacy and teen pregnancy by prohibiting welfare to minor mothers and denying increased AFDC for additional children while on welfare, cut spending for welfare programs, and enact a tough two-years-and-out provision with work requirements to promote individual responsibility. (Bill Text) (Description)

4. THE FAMILY REINFORCEMENT ACT: Child support enforcement, tax incentives for adoption, strengthening rights of parents in their children's education, stronger child pornography laws, and an elderly dependent care tax credit to reinforce the central role of families in American society. (Bill Text) (Description)

5. THE AMERICAN DREAM RESTORATION ACT: A S500 per child tax credit, begin repeal of the marriage tax penalty, and creation of American Dream Savings Accounts to provide middle class tax relief. (Bill Text) (Description)

6. THE NATIONAL SECURITY RESTORATION ACT: No U.S. troops under U.N. command and restoration of the essential parts of our national security funding to strengthen our national defense and maintain our credibility around the world. (Bill Text) (Description)

7. THE SENIOR CITIZENS FAIRNESS ACT: Raise the Social Security earnings limit which currently forces seniors out of the work force, repeal the 1993 tax hikes on Social Security benefits and provide tax incentives for private long-term care insurance to let Older Americans keep more of what they have earned over the years. (Bill Text) (Description)

8. THE JOB CREATION AND WAGE ENHANCEMENT ACT: Small business incentives, capital gains cut and indexation, neutral cost recovery, risk assessment/cost-benefit analysis, strengthening the Regulatory Flexibility Act and unfunded mandate reform to create jobs and raise worker wages. (Bill Text) (Description)

9. THE COMMON SENSE LEGAL REFORM ACT: "Loser pays" laws, reasonable limits on punitive damages and reform of product liability laws to stem the endless tide of litigation. (Bill Text) (Description)

10. THE CITIZEN LEGISLATURE ACT: A first-ever vote on term limits to replace career politicians with citizen legislators. (Description)

Further, we will instruct the House Budget Committee to report to the floor and we will work to enact additional budget savings, beyond the budget cuts specifically included in the legislation described above, to ensure that the Federal budget deficit will be less than it would have been without the enactment of these bills.

Respecting the judgment of our fellow citizens as we seek their mandate for reform, we hereby pledge our names to this Contract with America.
