Keep the Immigrants, Deport the Multiculturalists
Wall Street Journal ^ | May 15, 2008 | Jason Riley

So, whatever happened to immigration as a presidential campaign issue?

In the early caucus and primary states – Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina – the media assured us that immigration was foremost on the minds of voters. You couldn't watch a Republican debate without the issue dominating a good chunk of the discussion. And when Hillary Clinton appeared to endorse a proposal in New York state to give driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, it was considered a major stumble, and the senator spent weeks trying to clarify her remarks.

The public, we were told, was fed up with illegal immigrants, especially those coming from Latin America. These foreign nationals were stealing jobs, depressing wages, filling our jails and prisons, refusing to learn English, and not assimilating like past immigrant groups. The conventional wisdom was that any presidential candidate who stood a chance of being elected would have to take a hard-line stance on illegal aliens.

“So, whatever happened to immigration as a presidential campaign issue?”

Same thing that happened with the war issue, not to the likings of the media or the party they support.

Seems to have vanished from their radar.

If American culture is under assault today, it's not from immigrants who aren't assimilating but from liberal elites who reject the concept of assimilation

Amen to that.

“So, whatever happened to immigration as a presidential campaign issue?”

The Open Borders MSM effectively silenced it.

The heading deserves a HUGE “barf alert”. No way do the majority of Americans want amnesty for illegal aliens. The fact that the author of Senate Bill 2611 is now our candidate is testament to the power of the OBL and the NAU agenda.

It’s telling, how the media deliberately muddies the waters. They are trying to make people forget, or never grasp in the first place, the difference between legal and illegal immigration.
Then they poll and parade the results.

Horse bleep, if the “immigrants” wanted to assimilate they would. This is an invasion, pure and simple.

Trading all illegal immigrants currently in the US with all liberals? Let’s see... when roughly half of America is Dem-voting, and there are 20-30 million illegals, it would sound like a good deal. At least the work ethic of many illegals is higher than that of the average Democrap.

Deporting liberals would be our real answer to many of our domestic and national security problems. Bush made a great statement today in Israel about appeasement and liberals do that on a daily level.

Jason Riley is an apologist for mass third world invasion of the United States for a variety of ridiculous reasons.

This argument has been pushed before by countless apologists, notably Tamar Jacoby.

And no pays any attention to her anymore.

Assimilation is certainly one of the problems, but the notion that you can just magically change millions on millions of people flooding in is simply insane. With those kinds of numbers, the only assimilation going on will be Americans forced to assimilate to the alien cultures.

And that is what is happening now, and will continue to happen, until the numbers are reduced to what they were pre-1965.
