In Iowa, the latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds Barack Obama leading John McCain 44% to 42%. This is the third consecutive poll to find the candidates very close in the state that gave Obama his first victory on the way to the Democratic Presidential Nomination. A month ago , it was Obama by four. In February , it was Obama by three.

In all three polls, Obama's support has stayed in a narrow range from 44% to 46% while McCain has stayed at 41% or 42%.

This might seem like bad news, but in fact Obama lost 1 point since the latest poll before this one, where his lead was 4%. Still, McCain has a lot of work ahead of him.

Obama will do well against McCain in Iowa...they like him there.

However, McCain will pummel him in PA, Michigan, Ohio, and Florida.

With 14% undecided I figure that is a big win for McCain.

Clearly, he needs to pander to the Left a little harder...

I wonder at what point in the race (and polls) he’ll throw the WOT under the bus.

Says he’s going to talk about how things will look in 2013.

In my opinion, McCain will do well to win one of those four.

I disagree, and here’s the reason why - white male blue-collar Union voters.

They may not like Republicans, but they like them better than black folks. I’ve been around these types and believe me...if it comes down to an old white Republican and a young black guy with a Muslim name...they’ll vote McCain all day long.

Perhaps it’s not PC for me to say so, but I’m also an observant person and that’s what I see. I live in Maryland now and yes, Obama will kill McCain in Maryland, but I’m from Ohio, and I know how those guys as a whole tend to think.

PA, OHIO and FLA... Dems cannot win in Nov, not with fauxbama as the nominee.

There was a study done that showed that Obama does well among white voters in states with few blacks, with the exception of states like KY and WV. Iowa, Massachusetts, etc. He does poorly among whites in states with significant black populations.

Sorry, even with HillBilly as VP (a position I don’t see her ever accepting) Fauxbama cannot win, its purely that simple.

He cannot win a national election. In fact the only reason this bush league shrub is around at all is because of a few simple facts.

1) Anti-HillBilly sentiment among Democrats.

2) HillBilly has run a horrible campaign, she paraded around like it was her birthright, and by the time she finally got serious it was too late.

3) Because for most of the election cycle HillBilly was considered to be annointed, Fauxbama has not ever been seriously questioned, and in the few times he has had to face even modestly tough questions he’s flubbed them royally or gotten angry and indignant.

Fauxbama cannot win, and here’s why:

1) His support is non existent outside of a few groups, that while they can help you win among Dems in some states, cannot carry you in a general. He does not connect or have broad appeal in the middle.

2) He’s a marxist, and he runs with marxist. The associations that have come to light so far are just the tip of the iceburg.

3) He does not remotely have the temperment, every time he faces questions he doesn’t want to answer he falls apart.. as long as he can just deliver a platitude meaningless speach he sounds fine, but beyond that he looks like a fish out of water.

4) His wife comes across as a bitter shrew. She will turn off women in droves.

5) He’s repeatedly insulted the fundamental beliefs of middle america, and he won’t stop it, he may try to say it more politely, but he won’t stop it.

6) Elections are won in the middle, not on the edges. Swing voters will not break for this man, he will be beat easily 2 to 1 if not more in the swing vote category.. and no candidate can win if they lose the swing vote by such a margin. Even a candidate who has his base locked up.. and Fauxbama does not and will not have his base locked up. Blue Dog Democrats will not back this guy.

7) Abortion. Like it or not, he’s on the wrong side of this one, and once its well known he fought so that even a child born alive due to a botched abortion should not receive medical treatment and left to suffer and die.. he’s done.

America will not support this man, his rock star status was a PR hoax, and that bloom is long gone.. the stuff that’s come out since April is just the tip of the iceburg with this guy. He will continue to flub foreign policy and insult most folks sensibilities, because he just can’t help himself.. he truly lives in a different world view that most americans and doesn’t even realize he’s being repugnant when he says the things he does.

McCain will toast him, regardless of who his VP is.

I wish I could think you were right.
However, Obama will have the entire news media shilling for him 24/7, it will be “racist” not to vote for him, etc. The sheeple will vote for him in droves, and conservatives (possibly incuding me...) will not be able to vote for McCain as he dashes to the left in the General.

“Really, why are they polling Iowa? And I don’t get how Obama polls well in Iowa. I thought his base was metrosexuals. I think the farmers out there are breathing too much fertilizer.”... One word....ethanol.

Mega Agrobusiness is not Ye Little Farm

Iowa, home to the first-in-the-nation presidential caucus, is the biggest corn-growing state in the country, and in Iowa ethanol isn't just another campaign issue. It's the cash cow, the golden goose and the fountain of economic youth all wrapped up in one. Mike "Heckuva Job" Brown would stand a better chance of winning an election in New Orleans than an anti-ethanol candidate would of winning Iowa's caucus. --October 31 2006, MONEY

The money just keeps pouring in. Ernst & Young reports that another $3.1 billion was invested in Iowa through the first nine months of 2006 - $200 million more than New York, a state with six times Iowa's population.

ADM, for example, is spending $280 million on a bioplastics plant in Clinton and $540 million on an expansion of its ethanol plant in Cedar Rapids. Overall, there are now 25 ethanol plants operating in Iowa, according to the Iowa Corn Growers Association, with another 22 either in construction or on the drawing board.

Ethanol is popular in Iowa's agriculture-heavy economy. McCain sits in fifth place among GOP presidential contenders in Iowa and Florida, according to new polls by (2007)Rasmussen Reports. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is first in both of those GOP polls.

Trust me on this, short of something like IRAQ completely blowing up, Fauxbama has ZERO chance of winning in the general.

The MSM has been shilling for this guy for months, and they still couldn’t convince WV to even make it competative for Fauxbama... he cannot win a general election.

Look at PA, OH, FLA, MI etc.. he will not carry those states.. there is NO WAY a democrat can win by losing any of those states.. let alone ALL OF THEM.

Fauxbama not only cannot win the electoral college, but he’ll be lucky if he hits 40% in the general.. he does not and will not have the Dem base solidly behind him and he will lose the swing vote by at least 2 to 1.

You're an optimist.

I see the Dems coming back together after the convention and the predictions that some Hillary! voters will not vote for Obama as not panning out. Obama strolls back toward the center to pick up the “moderate” and “undecided” votes. Mentioning Wright, Ayers, or any other of Obama’s questionable friends and deeds or his lack of qualifications becomes “racist” and “hate speech.” The Republicans fall over themselves to avoid these labels.

In the mean time, McCain ducks (further) left after those same “moderates” and “undecideds”. Conservatives are completely abandoned by the Republican Party; the GOP wonders where the money and volunteers went. McCain and GOP Congresscrittes discover that while they can't compete with the Democrats for “moderate and “undecided” voters as commies can always outbid you when it comes to bribing voters with tax money.

Obama wins in a landslide and picks up a filibuster proof majority in Congress. The USA becomes a third world country with a one-party government.

I believe you are naive and foolsh.

Fauxbama has no broad appeal, and no, democrats will NOT unite behind this man. Swing voters in particular will not either.

Stop and look at this guys events and crowds... go talk to his supporters.. and those who support HillBilly and not him.

Fauxbama capitalized on anti-hillbilly support within the democratic party.. and coalescing kids, blacks and limosine liberals will give you primary victories in largely black states.. but it will not win you a general election.

Here’s the fundamental facts.. John Kerry was too radical for america to win a general election... and John Kerry looks like Ward Clever compaired to Fauxbama. Fauxbama will not Carry PA in a general election, mark my words. He alienated a lot of people with his guns and god and bitter nonsense.. and they won’t forget it. While it is a Democratic state in terms of registration, it is outside of philly a very conservative social state. Hunting is a birth right... Abortion is not embraced... nor is black liberation theology and double talk and spin.

No democrat has won the White House with WV in the last god knows how long, and he got trounced.. and got trounced for a reason.

The big issue right now is the Economy, and that’s sizing up to matter in NOV.. that and Gas prices... Fauxbama has already shown what week story he is going to try to tell in the general... and that being McCain is a Bush 3rd term.. which of course won’t sell other than to the radical left who was going to vote D no matter what anyway. McCain can’t be painted as Bush 3, but that’s the weak story that Fauxbama and his people are working on as their script.

Gas is $4 a gallon and Dems have kept us from opening ANWR.. who’s the loser? McCain? I don’t think so. Fauxbama fought against a law that said you must provide medical attention to a child born alive froma botched abortion, not set in the corner and left to suffer and die... He’s anti gun, anti blue collar, anti-values that most of america embraces, and he can’t hide it.. his associations are going to keep coming out.

He is fundamentally unelectable, he can’t handle HillBilly in a debate, he sure won’t be able to handle McCain... the debates will look like Cheney V Breck Girl.

Fauxbama cannot win.

Kerry came awfully close to winning.
And the Pubbies, not the Democrats, are going take it on the chin for the economy, while the Dems are NOT going to get the blame for failing to open ANWR and the FL and PRK offshore areas to drilling.

As I said, I hope you’re right and people see Obama as the commie he is, he can’t find any more votes than ones that delivered him the primary, etc. But I’m not betting on it.

Kerry didn’t come close to winning, he lost by over 3 Million votes.

Fauxbama has ZERO chance of winning the white house, he’s a not ready for prime time schrub who was able to capitalize on the anti-hillary wing of the democratic party.

He has no chance of winning the white house, all you have to do is go look at his performance during the debate with hillbilly where he got asked questions he didn’t want to answer.. he looked like a deer in the headlights.

As long as he sticks to meaningless platitude laden speaches he looks and sounds ok, the minute he has to actually think and speak from the cuff he falls apart like a cheap suit.

Here's a prediction... As the GOP's chances continue to nosedive, McCain will stay competitive with bHo.

With the Iraq issue, the economy, the need for change, etc etc etc, the MSM will spin it this way... The SOLE reason that bHo isn't crushing McCain is RACISmm (misspelled intentionally)... Mark my words, this will come to fruition... Once that happens, watch all GOP candidates fall over backward to prove their not...

THAT will be the death knell for McCain, and for the GOP... For decades...

I think your analysis of Obama is spot on.

There’s already evidence that Obama has trouble with the Democratic base. Let’s compare the Democratic primary to other previous Republican and Democratic primaries. What almost always happens is that when one candidate gets any sort of lead, often even before Super Tuesday, the party base moves to them in droves. It happened with Kerry in 2004, Bush and Gore in 2000, Dole in 1996, Clinton in 1992, and even further back.

This has not happened with Obama. He has had a clear lead since the start, and more so since Edwards bailed out, but there is a substantial portion of the Democratic party, mainly those that lean to the middle, that refuse to vote for him. He almost has the nomination in hand and he is losing West Virginia to Hillary by 30 points! Some polls have McCain close to Obama in Massachusetts of all places. Florida is going to look as Republican as Texas in the general. Pennsylvania is not even in play for Obama.

Outside of college educated young people and blacks, NO ONE is voting for this guy.
