EL PASO, Texas - A U.S. Border Patrol Agent is under arrest charged with helping run a massive human smuggling ring out of El Paso.
Jesus Miguel Huizar, 28, made his first appearance before a federal magistrate Wednesday afternoon.
Emeterio Sigala-Favela and Luis Carlos Chacon-Rubio, both of Chihuahua, Mexico, are also charged in this case.
The federal indictments were unsealed Tuesday.
They paint the picture of a complex, well-organized and highly lucrative operation that may have helped as many as 100 undocumented immigrants cross the border.
Huizar allegedly allowed the other men to bring undocumented immigrants through the Border Patrol checkpoints on I-25 and New Mexico 185 near Hatch.
"What the border patrol agent who was arrested tuesday is charged with doing is allowing illegal aliens through his checkpoints in New Mexico for $500 a head," said Leticia Zamarripa, a spokeswoman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, one of the agencies involved in the investigation.
According to the indictment, Huizar owned a home in the 9000 block of Geranium in the Lower Valley which was used to house some of the illegal aliens. The ring also allegedly used a home in the 308 block of Ronquillo.
According to the court documents, back in March of this year, an unidentified person "harbored undocumented aliens at her residence" which was the residence on Ronquillo.
The indictment says the smuggling ring started as early as January 2005 and continued until last month.
The ring allegedly took in about $500,000.
In addition to human smuggling conspiracy, all three men also face federal money laundering charges.
According to the US attorney's office, Huizar faces up to 30 years in federal prison if convicted; Sigala-Favela and Chacon-Rubio each could face up to ten years.
"We do our job and we do it with integrity," said Agent Ramiro Cordero, a spokesman for the U.S Border Patrol's El Paso Sector.
He also added that disciplinary action is taken on a case-by-case basis so there is no word wether Huizar is on leave at this time.
I wonder how much prison time they’ll get. Less than Ramos and Compean I’m sure.
I wonder how many of the Mexican-American USBP agents recruited in the last decade came in so that they could use their position for purposes of graft?
It’s a very old Mexican tradition. In Mexico, for example, customs agents are paid a pittance. It’s fully expected they will make up the difference in bribes.
“They paint the picture of a complex, well-organized and highly lucrative operation that may have helped as many as 100 undocumented immigrants cross the border.”
He was only on the job for 15 minutes?
A lot!
ROTFLMAO!
Want to bet he is an anchor baby or green card citizen.

Just wondering.
What else can you expect when the requirements are so abysmally low? Border Patrol agents do not have to have a high school diploma. The only requirement seems to be that they are breathing and can speak the Mexican version of Spanish.
The corruption within the Tucson sector of the Border Patrol is scandalous — and a well kept secret.
And by the end of 2008, 6,000 new agents will be on the job. For those keeping track, that’s almost half the current level of 13,000.
Given the turds good Amish name I just cannot understand why????????????
Its almost a given there are a percentage corrupt.
Bottom line is, the other side wants this more than we are willing to stop it. The left wants to push their agendas more than we want to stop them and demand for ours. And until that dynamic changes, the anti-American drift will continue.
“I wonder how many of the Mexican-American USBP agents recruited in the last decade came in so that they could use their position for purposes of graft?”
Your kidding, right? If not, that has to be one of the biggest bullshiite statements I’ve read here in a long, long time. Painting every BP Agent who has a hispanic last name like this is crap and you know it. I’ll bet $100 you were one of the first ones here to defend Ramos and Compean.
I will also wager you believe hispanics join the military so they can go home and teach their gangbanger homeboys what they learned from Uncle Sam.
These rings are busted all the time, and a good portion of the morons busted have anglo last names.
True dat.
click ...............BANG!
He is a naturalized US citizen.
You have to be a US citizen.
There you go. Too many Hispanic naturalized citizens do not identify themselves as American and have no pride or loyalty to our country.
It's not just a problem with Mexican-American agents by far- it is more of a greed issue than race. Plenty of cuacasian and other races get this type of job for the...ahem...extra money to be made on the side. That said there are many BP and CPB who are great upstanding people and are determined to do their job. The problem is it is a very thankless job and very much subject to the political wind direction. Depending on what is going on in D.C. they can be expected to be mere border greeters or bad asses- always subject to change of course. Add in the fact that they know that noone has their back when they are out there on the front lines- and indeed many are quick to stab them in the back- it is getting harder and harder to recruit and keep good people.
Thanks... just wondering.
True.
ping
El Paso ping!
If you want on, or off this S. Texas/Mexico ping list, please FReepMail me.
He didn’t paint every agent with a Hispanic last name as corrupt. He just asked the queation how many join specifically to smuggle. The fact is there are a lot of Mexican-Americans that join the Border Patrol and CPB to smuggle. I’ve been in the Patrol over ten years and don’t remember a single Anglo that has ever been busted for smuggling.
queation=question
On please. Thanks.
Source on this, please?
I have yet to meet a hispanic Texan that doesnt sympathize with the illegals. I have a heart for them myself though I want the border closed.
Whats your point?
Well, you’ve met one now. But then, I was adopted into an Anglo family when I was just a couple days old, so I don’t know that it counts. While the name is Tennessee_Bob, I was born in Sherman, Grayson County, just north of Dallas.
The other reason I ask is that I work with CBP agents every day as part of my job (I work on the DHS/ICE service/support desk) and I haven’t encountered any that were very sympathetic to illegals.
The point is that your comment paints a lot of good men and women with a very broad brush, and they don’t deserve that.
They need to make concentrated efforts to clean this type activity out of LEOs.
From another article:

The indictment against Huizar, a five-year Border Patrol veteran and a naturalized U.S. citizen, alleges he and Mexican citizens Emeterio Sigala-Favela, 37, and Luis Carlos Chacon-Rubio, 32, worked with “the Jurado alien smuggling organization,” which “established a network of smugglers and transporters, including local and interior transporters, safe house operators, border crossing guides and brokers of safe passage.”
Hell Compien et al were hiding thier tracks after shooting a guy. If you would reread my first post you might see I made the point it would be natural for some to be dirty.
Yes.
