REPUBLICANS LOOKING FOR A MESSAGE

Well .. seems a bit late, don't you think? The Republicans, knowing that they're in a huge heap of trouble in this year's election, are looking for a new message that will light a fire under the voters. House minority leader John Boehner says "We have to show Americans that we can fix the problems here in Washington." Hey, John. A little late there.
If the Republicans want to make a bold move to stop the bleeding they're going to have to go beyond slogans. As you'll read below, they just participated in the passage of a huge, bloated and completely unnecessary farm bill to pay off farm state voters. The Republican base is tired of this ... brutally tired.
Well ... you probably heard this coming; but if the Republicans want to excite the electorate there is one sure-fire proposal out there. That would be the FairTax. Just start the debate stand up to the demagogues and tell the voters that if they return the Republicans to power the FairTax will be voted on. Watch the election turn real interesting on a dime.

How about...
“We’re sorry for lying to you about cutting wasteful spending and big government, and if you vote us back in we will really, really, really do something about it this time”.

Anybody, RAT or Pub, that campaigned on securing the border and effectivly dealing with the illegals that are here would win the election in a landslide.
From July on.

House minority leader John Boehner says "We have to show Americans that we can fix the problems here in Washington." Hey, John. A little late there. One of the best ways the Republican party could start would be to boot Boehner out of the leadership post and give it to someone with some principle and not so corrupt.
This guy is one of the worst House leaders we've ever had, IMHO.

They need to swing for the fences. Like JFK saying we will go to the moon, or even LBJ declaring war on poverty. Saying something weak like "We promise to do better on earmarks" is not going to help.
Fair Tax is a good plan. There are other areas (social security reform, education reform, tort reform) that also need attewntion but a massive, dedicated effort to replace the current IRS-dominated tax system is probably the best way to go.

I think Republicans won't have to look for a message for long - they are about to receive one. The ballot box is the voters term limits. They will lose the power that they sold their souls to gain. The devil is a harsh mistress!
Perhaps the next crop will remember public morality, limited government and a strong common defense!

John Boehner says “We have to show Americans that we can fix the problems here in Washington.” IS HOPELESSLY INCOMPLETE...once again ignoring the problems of middle America from which their support supposedly comes...e.g. how about wage increases so, when the ‘housing bottom’ comes, they can legitimately, without borrowing, buy consumer goods and homes again? Presently, neither party addresses this forseeable point in the future.

Its far too late for this election. Moderates don't like them and conservatives don't trust them. New slogans will do nothing to help.
We have a huge issue that is just peeking over the horizon - energy independence and its effect on or economy and national security. Not one Republican is even talking about solving our energy dependency problem.

Most of the sheeple are too damn ignorant about the FairTax to make it an issue. It will take at least two election cycles or more to educate them.
What they can understand is that gas prices are going through the roof because nobody has the guts to stand up to the eco-nazis and drill in ANWR or off-shore. We could get immediate relief at the pump if Bush had the guts to declare a national emergency and announce these areas would be open forthwith. Further, any state or locality who granted permits to get a new refinery built within a reasonable time would get all Federal tax revenue which said refinery generated until December 31, 2018.
What the sheeple can also understand is our damn borders are being overrun and are out of control. We are willing to grant four million amnesty visas to the best qualified once the following conditions are met:
- English is enacted the official language of the country and the government.
- No bilingual ballots unless you are a Native American tribe here before January 1, 1788. English skill is required to become a citizen, citizenship is required to vote. If the border moved while you were already here, tough beans, but it isn't practical to force the rest of us to learn Spanish, French, Navajo or whatever. Come back and vote after you've made a tiny effort to show your interest in our nation, language and culture.
- Illegal aliens who want a crack at the four million amnesty visa have until January 30, 2009 to register. Yes, this means it will be easier for us to hunt you down and kick you out if you don't make the cut, but it also means we may give you a few extra months to get your affairs in order or even expand the program if it proves to be successful, as we suspect it will, in making your least desirable cohorts stampede for the exit gates. Oh, and if you don't register, we'll kick you out first and let you file your appeal in Mexico, Honduras or wherever else you came from.
- Localities who want to be "sanctuary cities" will have their federal funding and voting representation cut by the estimated illegal alien population they are harboring. So if you really don't consider yourself subject to American laws, we see no reason to have the rest of America subsidize you and and allow their influence to be diluted.
These are pretty basic things that most of America, including blue collar Democrats, can agree about.
This is, by no means, a complete list. But it is a start. Feel free to add to it!

Pay attention the the Farm Bill that just passed. Its not the average American Joe. Its any large organization that has the cash to buy a few K St. lobbyists to twist congess’ arm. The boys on Capitol Hill that are unresponsive to said arm twisting...well these organizations can afford to make sure they’re replaced in the next election cycle-and in fact, with what the new boys will send them legislatively will far more than make up for the cost of replacing a recalcitrant congresscritter. We American’s have a far bigger problem on our hands here than any of us could possibly imagine in our worst nightmare.
