California Supreme Court legalizes same-sex marriage

California Supreme Court opinion (PDF) A sharply divided California Supreme Court today legalized same-sex marriage, a historic ruling that will allow gay and lesbian couples across the state to wed as soon as next month and inflame the social, political and moral debate over gay unions. In a 4-3 ruling written by Chief Justice Ronald George, the Supreme Court struck down California laws that restrict marriage to heterosexual couples, finding that it is unconstitutional to deprive gays and lesbians of the equal right to walk down the aisle with a marriage license in hand. The California and Massachusetts Supreme Courts are now the only top courts in the country to uphold the right of gay couples to marry. "The California Constitution properly must be interpreted to guarantee this basic civil right to all Californians, whether gay or heterosexual, and to same-sex couples as well as to opposite-sex couples," the court observed in a 121-page decision. The reaction was immediate.

Domestic Partnerships are the same thing as marriage anyway. Nice that the good Christians of California didn’t corrupt themselves by stepping into the ring with sound argumnets. Might have hurt their image. /sarc

"...the Supreme Court struck down California laws..."

We don't need no steenkin' laws.
They might as well do away with any sort of state legistlatures while they're at it. Why do they need representatives when they have JUDGES!!!???!!! Heck - no need to even VOTE, either, since it's all being decided by them, anyway.

How can they rule accordingly and then deny polygamy?
How can any form of marriage be denied?

The temperature in South San Francisco (where I live) is in the mid-90's right now. What we call earthquake weather, because it rarely gets hot here and quakes sometimes hit at times like this. My daughter in Kansas called last night and said she heard of a prophecy that the big one is going to hit SF this coming week. With this news today, maybe the big one will hit!

Under this ruling is doesn’t seem as thought it can. Father/Daughter, First Cousings, Brother/Sister, Polygamy, etc.

Sodomy has become a protected act.

I guess this is why we need a U.S. Constitutional Amendment defining marriage as one man, one woman. Pathetic that it should come to this, in America.

TRUE...since there is no longer any moral basis for hetero marriage, don’t be surprised to find polygamy to be the next “right”.

The chaining of angels in Sheol below and the nuking of Sodom were warnings and examples to those who would commit the same kind of fornication. Though it is delayed, it is coming to those who do not flee fornication, and every evil work

Jude: verses 6,7
And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day;
7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

Ecc 8:11 Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of Adam is fully set in them to do evil.

...finding that it is unconstitutional to deprive gays and lesbians of the equal right to walk down the aisle with a marriage license in hand.

That's B.S. Gays and Lesbians have exactly the same rights as Straight people.

A Straight man cannot walk down the isle with another man and wedding license in hand.
A Gay man cannot walk down the isle with another man and wedding license in hand.
A Straight man can walk down the isle with a woman (both consenting) with a wedding license in hand.
A Gay man can walk down the isle with a women (both consenting) with wedding license in hand.

Looks exactly the same to me. What the courts are saying, is to change the law so that Gays and Lesbians can do something "different". That's not right. That's the exact opposite of the stated intent.

“Reduces the status of kids to household pets.
How do ya figure?”

By definition homosexual marriage precludes a shared genetic attachment to any kids in a gay marriage. Consequently the DNA, lineage and bonding that occurs between parents and children is broken. Much like dogs and cats, birds and turtles, children are expendable in a gay marriage. No continuance of gene line reduces kids to the status of household pets.

Perhaps we should close down the legislatures and turn the whole thing over to the judges. Just think how much we could save in legislative salaries - enough perhaps for a judicial salary increase.</sarcasm>

This is absolutely absurd. Not even Sodom and Gomorrah had the tenacity to call homosexual “relationships” marriage, and look what happened to them.

We need a Federal Constitutional Amendment fast!
