TRENTON, N.J. - The mayor of Passaic City resigned Friday after he pleaded guilty to attempted extortion and admitted he accepted $5,000 in cash to influence government contracts.

Samuel Rivera, a former police officer, is the latest of about 130 public officials to be found guilty of corruption in New Jersey since 2002 in a federal probe.

"By his own conduct, Mr. Rivera added himself to the growing roster of corrupt public officials in New Jersey," U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie said. "The citizens of Passaic deserved better."

Isn’t it an unnecessary redundancy to use Corrupt & Politician in the same sentence, while in New Jersey, New York, Illinois, Michigan or Massoftwoshits?

Did Tony get his cut? Money or his throat? Remember, this is Jersey, and those killed in Jersey stay in Jersey.

Ask Jimmy Hoffa. He’s under some Sonic’s parking lot.

I am really surprised he actually resigned.

That hardly ever happens here in NJ.

The resignation part, not the corruption part.

Time for another game of Name That Party!

Simple and innocent explanation:

Democrat corruption = dog bites man = not newsworthy

Republican corruption = man bites dog = newsworthy
