Dutch cartoonist Gregorius Nekschot was arrested when his house was raided by ten police men. He spent a night in a police cell and was then released. It is unclear if Nekschot is to be prosecuted. The raid apparently happened because of complaints by fundamentalist imam van de Ven, a Dutch Islam convert who once said that he'd like to see critics of Islam like Geert Wilders to be dead.
Nekschot is a controversial cartoonist who criticizes multi cultural society and religions. Although his work is not exactly an example of fine taste sometimes his arrest raised protests. The raid is clearly an example of intimidation. Police said Nekschot (a pseudonym that means 'head shot') now lost his anonymity.

Nekschot was arrested by orders of the Dutch prosecution office because of his cartoons insulting muslims and some minorities.
Another sad day for freedom of speech in the Netherlands. Thousands of US soldiers died to give us that right. More and more I begin to realize they died in vain...

Dutch blog GeenStijl.nl investigated the matter and they managed to uncover who is behind the arrest. The head of the Proscution Office (OM) in Amsterdam, Paul Velleman, gave orders to arrest Nekschot after an investigation by the anti-discrimination center LECD. The LECD, which decides mostly about what anti-discriminationbureau recives funding, is part of the OM and is headed by... Paul Velleman. In order to get enough evidence to arrest Nekschot, Velleman gave the LECD orders to do an investigation, so basicly he ordered himself. The LECD made a report that is was justified to arrest Nekschot. Velleman was also behind en investigation about the movie Fitna without a prior complaint. Velleman is also been investigation for years wether Geert Wilders (the man behind Fitna) is guilty of discrimination or racism. Velleman is the same officer who also decided that the El Tawheed mosque was not to be prosecuted for spreading hatred and selling books that promote discrimination against woman and that homosexuals should be put to death. Velleman also made sure Gretta Duisenberg was not to be prosecuted for anti-Jewish remarks. He was also accused of misusing he powers by a PvdA(!) politician.
After 3 years of investigation (the investigaion was stopped but now the OM decided to take action) Nekschot was arrested yesterday by a 10 man strong arrestteam. Wilders (PVV) is furious and said Nekschot was the first cartonist ever to be arrested in Europe and he will ask questions next meeting of the cabinet.
