Sen. Barack Obama, the leading Democratic candidate for his party's nomination, is very fond of telling receptive audiences the story about how last May he walked right into the automotive lion's den of Detroit and told those industrialists they were going to have to shape up, change the way they do things and start making more fuel-efficient vehicles to protect our environment.
"And I have to say," the straight-talking Obama tells his chuckling followers, "that when I delivered that speech, the room got really quiet. [Laughter] Nobody clapped."
Well, in honor of Obama's return campaign visit back to Michigan this week, someone -- perhaps Republicans, perhaps someone closer to home politically -- assembled videotape of Obama's oft-told tale and spliced it side by side with videotape of that actual Detroit speech.
You'll never guess what. The room wasn't quiet at all. Obama, in fact, got a loud round of applause. And at the end of his address the camera's view of him at the podium is partially blocked because the audience of local businesspeople and automotive executives was rising to give him a standing ovation.

Somebody needs to assemble “The Lies of Barack Obama” on tape. He lies a lot and he needs to own up to it.

Elites lie with impunity.
Can’t we get just get back to work for the American people?
"Erm... I'm sorry, but that video is misleading.
The clips from the speech in that video are from the END of the speech. Of course he gets some applause then.
But it's not like he's hiding anything - a video of the whole speech was uploaded by his campaign. Watch it - http://youtube.com/watch?v=j1nno1El3-g - and what do you know, the room IS quiet. You can hear people cough.
True, there are a couple of points where he gets some mild applause. It would be incredible if there was no applause at all anywhere in the speech, particularly when he's talking about preserving jobs in the auto industry, but at many key points, like right after that when he talks about fuel efficiency standards - complete silence.
Simply put, his comment that the room got really quiet is true. It did."
I haven't checked this for myself.
Ya maybe from Detroit's Glitteratti, or should I say Farmington or Bloomfield Hills....
Look "Barry" couldn't change a freakin spark plug if his life depended on it. And to top it off, he probably has never had a cup of coffee or a cold beer with those trying to obtain those vaulted numbers that are close to unobtainium, but who cares, he probably never took a physics course, so reality doesn't matter.
Look these engineers would kill for 3/10ths, for those of you in Reo-Linda that is 1/3 of a mpg more, with a mature technology, it is that hard. This candidate is to much of a a technically illiterate elitist to know this.....
Yep and the same story can be told of how he told a group of Catholics that Women should not be punished with children and should have every opportunity to abort at any stage..... but at the end of that speech the Catholics were giving standing ovations too...
So B. Hussein Obama wheres his liberalism on his sleeve and the message is that is what America wants... pure Progressive Liberalism.....
Obama = Political prestidigitation and the lemmings drown one by one.
But hey, a country that thinks it can bring oil prices down without oil thinks it won't face disasters with a totally unqualified president.
Maybe the standing ovations are really saying:
“THANK YOU FOR ENDING THIS STUPID CRAP, NOW YOU CAN LEAVE, BARRY!” Just MHO.
Leave the poor man alone. He’s tired and justs wants to eat his Waffle.
Yeah, very strange. I guess liberalism trumps religion, ethics, morals, beliefs, etc.
So they say to themselves, "I disagree with the guy on this, this, and this, but he's a lib dem and I always vote for them."
Detroit builds what sells. Well, at least what they think sells. I’ve never understood why some think Detroit refuses to build high-gas-mileage cars because they hate the environment.
The government forcing them to build something smacks of fascism.
It’s not that they can’t, it’s just they have a different thought process than Japanese and Koreans. I think it’s the opening premise. US marketing is similarly flawed.
Thanks for the ping.
