Israel survives miraculously
NY Daily News ^ | May 16 2008 | Charles Krauthammer

Before sending Lewis and Clark west, Thomas Jefferson dispatched Meriwether Lewis to Philadelphia to see Dr. Benjamin Rush. The eminent doctor prepared a series of scientific questions for the expedition to answer. Among them, writes Stephen Ambrose: "What Affinity between their [the Indians'] religious Ceremonies & those of the Jews?" Jefferson and Lewis, like many of their day and ours, were fascinated by the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel, and thought they might be out there on the Great Plains.

They weren't. They aren't anywhere. Their disappearance into the mist of history since their exile from Israel in 722 B.C. is no mystery. It is the norm, the rule for every ancient people defeated, destroyed, scattered and exiled.

With one exception, a miraculous story of redemption and return, after not a century or two, but 2,000 years. Remarkably, that miracle occurred in our time. This week marks its 60th anniversary: the return and restoration of the remaining two tribes of Israel - Judah and Benjamin, later known as the Jews - to their ancient homeland.

I am a full blown Jew, genetically proven Cohen.

And I have a red beard and like Irish beer and whiskey.

Just maybe . . . .

Jesus opened up redemption for everyone. Lost or not.
Israel is important for three main reasons:

1) Religious antiquity
2) Launching pad to strike surrounding enemies that destabilize the oil market (hey, come up with something else and I’m all for it.)
3) democratic country with hot girls in short-shorts and uzis.

The uzi is no longer used.

The women are still hot, but they prefer low-riding jeans.

"...(hey, come up with something else and I’m all for it.)"

Israel is famous for...

* Some of the greatest advances in modern physics.

* The Intel Centrino chip that's inside almost all new laptops today.

* Trendsetting advances in medicine.

The Ten Tribes of the North - what was called Israel had lapsed into paganism by the time they were vanquished by the Assyrians. The two Tribes of Judah and Benjamin had the allegiance to God and to the Davidic Dynasty in Jerusalem, from who it was said it Messiah will come. When the Babylonians captured Jerusalem, the Jews should have met the same fate as the Israelites before them. They did not. Hebrew fell into disuse as a spoken language but it remained a literary and liturgical language for thousands of years. In the 19th century, the American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote of the Jewish cemetery in his native New England: "dead nations do not arise again." The experience of modern Israel happily proved him wrong. Its existence is indeed a miracle.

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus

The people found in India and Africa are essentially lost Jews, not the Lost Ten Tribes of Israel. In 722 BCE the Assyrians under Shalmaneser V and then under Sargon II conquered the northern Kingdom of Israel, destroyed its capital Samaria and sent the Israelites into exile and captivity in Khorason, now part of eastern Iran and western Afghanistan. The Ten Lost Tribes are those who were deported. In Jewish popular culture, the ten tribes disappeared from history, leaving only the tribes of Benjamin, Judah and Levi to become the ancestors of modern day Jews.

As a result they lost all their identity as descendants of Abraham. But GOD DOES NOT FORGET. He still blessed Abraham’s descendants, just as he promised, even though they did not know who they were.........see post #12.......

I think, if anything, the War of Independence in 1948 was a definite miracle of God. Any other state that size with that population being invaded on all sides by much larger countries with more troops and armor that they had would have been wiped out in short order.
