Lebanon is legendarily fractious, and some observers claim Hezbollah, too, will have trouble running the country. That is perhaps why they decline to try: They'll leave to Siniora and others the chores of seeking foreign aid, caring for the non-Shiite population, and so on. But we saw this week what happens when the caretaker government interferes with Hezbollah's preparations against Israel.
Iran and its proxies are in the ascendant all across the Middle East. Foolishly, President U.S. George W. Bush still refuses to negotiate with Iran, or with Syria, and that can't help.

Iran and its proxies are in the ascendant. Pass the word.

“President U.S. George W. Bush still refuses to negotiate with Iran, or with Syria, and that can’t help.”
What would be the point?
Do these people understand what a “negotiation” is? You have something they want, they have something you want.
All they want is to destroy Israel, then move on to the Christians. All we want is to be left alone.
I think we move on to: you die or stop being pricks. Then we have something they want (their lives) and they have something we want (being left alone).
I don’t think I’d go that route. I think I’d just annihilate Iran using nukes, and then ask the surviving Moslem countries (other than Pakistan), “do you really want to develop nuclear weapons? Just curious.” But then, I tend to be a bit of a hothead. ;’)
The Muzzies will negotiate, it’s just that they don’t negotiate in good faith. They are liars and can’t be trusted with a burned out match. Even when given a stark choice, death or conformity, they can’t be trusted. Half of them will choose immediate death through so-called martyrdom.
It’s so much faster just to nuke ‘em. Saves a lot of useless talking.
Negotiation is preparation for capitulation.
Hey! That rhymes!
Belmont Club and Caroline Glick have a more astute take on the Hizzahbs see: http://fallbackbelmont.blogspot.com/2008/05/be-bop-galula.html
My take upon theirs is that such a political structure is not new. It is a form of distributed thugocracy such as seen with Sicily and the mafiosi.
It is likely far more ancient. Maybe like the ancient Phillistines. Very difficult to eradicate once established.
