Ellen[Degeneres], Portia [de Rossi]: Here Come the Brides!

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are making it official.
Hours after Thursday's landmark ruling by the California Supreme Court striking down a state law banning gay marriage, the 50-year-old daytime host announced during a taping of The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she and the 35-year-old former Ally McBeal star plan to swap vows.
In the episode scheduled to air later today, studio audience members greeted DeGeneres' news with thunderous applause and a standing ovation as De Rossi watched from the sidelines.
The show's publicist was unavailable for comment.
Separately, in an interview with The Advocate Thursday, DeGeneres said she was ready to go bridal.
"I'm thrilled that the California Supreme Court overturned the ban on gay marriage," she told the magazine. "I can't wait to get married. We all deserve the same rights, and I believe that someday...not allowing gays to marry will seem as absurd as not allowing women to vote."
DeGeneres and the Aussie actress have been together for four years.

I hope the divorce is nasty and expensive. Gays have had it easy.

Yeah, we’ve seen enough of “Ellen Degenerate.”

Posturing comes easily to Hollywood types. This has no more effect on the reality of marriage than holding out your hand and commanding the tide to stop coming in. It may damage the legal standing of marriages, but that damage will pass. The problem could be that the passing could take our civilization with it.
That’s yet one more reason why I moved out of CA and into NC (which didn’t turn out quite so well as I hoped: too many liberals moving in).

"someday...not allowing gays to marry will seem as absurd as not allowing women to vote." Allowing women to vote is probably what got us into this mess in the first place. ; )
BTW, will Ellen insist on a pre-nup? She's the one with the money. And we know how these gold diggers are.

Portia is making the mistake here, she can do better than Ellen. Now that the California field is wide-open (and I have dibs on Bill Gates, no prenup) why doesn’t Portia try for a young one, like Natalie Portman. Then she can be Portia Portman.
Ah, the possibilities. Helen and Ellen. Brad Clooney. Sean Penn and Tom Hayden. My mind boggles, and then tips.

yeah, she also announced they were going to Ireland for the honeymoon. The reason? They wanted to brush up on their Gaelic.
thank you! next shows at 10 and 11:30. make sure to try the veal.

I saw her at a party in Vegas, she had her hair pulled back in a tight ponytail and was wearing a very mannish dark pantsuit. At the time I had no idea she was a lesbian, all I knew is it sure seemed like a strange outfit for a gorgeous woman to wear in a place where the other women were dressed up.

It may damage the legal standing of marriages, but that damage will pass. The problem could be that the passing could take our civilization with it I would assume that gay couples would be allowed to adopt children. Not only that but it would be illegal to place children preferentially with heterosexual married couples. A girl putting her child up for adoption would not be allowed to spedify that her child go to a heterosexual couple.
Oh sure this has no real and damaging effect on people.

Eww. Marriage is by definition between one man and one woman. Anyone can marry a person of the opposite sex. Ellen, Rosie, and other homosexuals out there can get the same benefits of a married couple in terms of the state, but they certainly aren’t married in the eyes of God.

I said there would be damage. You give a traumatic example of exactly what I was obliquely suggesting. Thank you for making explicit what I left implicit.
This will be like any other stupid humanity trick: a lot of people for a relatively short time will be severely hurt. That damage will echo down generations. The only question will be how long society in general will permit the aberration and damage to be inflicted. Given the value-neutral state in California, my guess would be ‘too long’ with ‘generational effects’.
As I said, however, that’s what I saw coming and I got out of that particular Dodge City. If you’re there, you should get out, too, in my humble estimation.
Are we clear now?
