A lobby for homosexuals and transgenders in Maine has announced plans to shadow individuals who will be working to collect signatures on the "YES for Marriage and Equality" pro-family referendum, which is intended to put a marriage protection plan on the 2009 election ballot.
In a report in the New England Blade this week, Betsy Smith, executive director of the Equality Maine activist organization, outlined "a plan that asks volunteers to stand with the people the [Christian Civic] League recruits to collect signatures for the petition."
"I think it is disgusting that so-called 'gay' groups plan on harassing dear Christian grandmothers who simply want to gather signatures on Primary Election Day. Shame on Equality Maine," said Michael Heath, chief of the CCL.
"They need to call off this totalitarian campaign of intimidation and apologize. Yesterday wouldn't be soon enough," he said in a statement today.
The Equality report said, "this way signers will not misinterpret the petition's purpose and understand before they sign that the so-caled (sic) 'equality' the League wants is really equality for straight couples, not equality for all."
A report from CCL said, "Smith went on to state the Equality Maine petition blockers 'will offer a pledge for [homosexual and transgendered] equality, so that people who are opposed to [the pro-family referendum] can take action that day.'"
The Blade report was harshly critical of the pro-family plan to define marriage and provide that it is a union of one man and one woman, as well as eliminate the requirement that taxpayers fund homosexual clubs in public schools.
Equality officials reported they had been working to change the language of the proposal, and the language approved by the secretary of state "explains to voters much more clearly what this referendum would do," according to Smith.

How many of these freaks can there be in Maine?
oh yeah. few things are more intimidating than a she-man.
Queers could hurt themselves "shadowing" strangers.
Have some people in Maine been influenced due to their proximity to the successful gay activists in Canada?
Couldn’t this qualify as stalking?
Being queer is a mental disorder and they should be treated as such. They are sick basterds and should just go back to the closet.
Yeah, and a black beating up on a non-black could be qualified as a hate crime, but it won't.
Read the account of Lot in the city of Sodom and you will see what is happening in America.
That they are.
I could care less where they go, as long as it isn't near me, or mine.
I will protect myself from any disease carrying rodent.

What difference does it make how the people vote on this issue? Does Maine not have a supreme court to over rule them? Ala California.
Now don't let some evil laden characters who are going to "shadow" you get in the way of doing what is right. I'm sure they are embolden by the usurped ruling of those wacko judges in SF this week. Yes, you have to fight. Stop complaining about what they're going to do, and do what you have to do.
I know what is happening in America, FRiend.
Satan is having his way, the reasons for revolt are mounting, and the time for such draws nigh.
Exactly right, FRiend.
Oh gosh, where to start? The CCL is a small, loud and mean bunch of Hanging Christians that’s about as popular here in Maine as jock itch. They aren’t Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church by any means, but that’s the direction they trend in.
That said, the Gays’ action may just get them a little sympathy. Not a whole lot, though. As far as most of us are concerned, it’s the pious pains-in-the-arse versus the self-righteous ones.

We've been fighting these, ah, people, for 3 decades now. We petition, we testify in the Capitol, we fight tooth and nail, we vote and vote them down - and they keep coming back, they have the backing of our corrupt democrat gov's and legislature.
There needs to be a law passed that once the people have voted something = either way - there needs to be a few years before it's negated by the legislature, making it necc. for us to fight the same battle again and again.
What they are planning on doing is shear intimidation and harassment...I would pray it is not allowed...
insanity
Really?
Speak for yourself...
Back in the 80's, I had an organization - "Families For Freedom" - umbrellered with state/nation wide groups = and we fought these people to the ground. And yes, the Christian League was one of the groups.
If not for the added help of the group, the "self-righteous ones" = or is it the "pious pains-in-the-arse" = can't quite make out which faction you mean by your descriptions - but if not for them - these homo "mentors" would now be one to one with the school kids - and Maine would have long ago become a mecca-state for gay marriage. =
Don't know what circles you run in, but I doubt you speak for "most of us."
There is no such thing as “transgender”. A person’s sex can not be changed. And liberalism is a mental illness.
(Bet there's more Moose than tranny's in Maine. At least I'd hope so.)
Homo goons squads. What’s next?
Was that a quote from 1930 Germany?
It could have been.
