Here is an interview (see video)former Sen. Fred Thompson did with Fox & Friends on May 16, 2008. Fred talks about Barack Obama, saying "we don't need a babe in the woods" on foreign policy in these dangerous times. Thompson said we need John McCain, whom he describes as being "right on the major issues" that are vital to America - National Security, Judicial Appointments, and Taxes/Trade. . .

Fred always has been a RINO McCain shill. Shows what kind of president he would have made.
This is why Fred went nowhere: Too nice, too political, too trusting of RINO’s.
No sale!
Barack Obama has never run anything in his life. Not even a bake sale. But since when does leadership experience determine qualification for the office of the President? Geesh! [/s]
[Fred always has been a RINO McCain shill. Shows what kind of president he would have made.]
Just which other Republican candidate would you expect him to back?
Which is of course a good thing.
There were no viable conservatives in the field. McCain won
That said, there can be no doubt that he will be better than Obie-wan. Much like the 1964 Mets were better than the '62 Mets perhaps, but better nonetheless.
But as Thomas Sowell said, McCain could never convince me to vote for him, but Barack Obama could cause me to vote for McCain. So, this'll be the first presidential election since I turned 18 that I most likely won't be casting a vote.
However, it's easy for me to say here in the Peoples Republik of New York. NY won't even be close. The liberal idiots in NYC, Long Island, Ithaca as well as the inner-city votes will give NY to Obie by 10 points min. If polls show NY a toss-up on Monday, I'll be forced to hold my nose, eat $h1t and vote for McLoser. Then go home and take a shower.
The choice he had for Republican candidate:
John McCain or John McCain
Well, he could have chosen John McCain too.
Unfortunately, that is the Republican nominee.
a "lost" babe in the woods. Got to love that plain Thompson talk.
Unfortunately, Fred is not in a position to throw Juan under the bus. If he has any thoughts of running in 2012, that is.
Actually, we need Fred Thompson and NOT John McKLAin.
That’s why I’ll be writing in Fred come November.
Right. McCain is the nominee. I am just so past all this RINO sniping. We face Obama as a possible President. McCain is a Saint compared to the likes of Obama.
Fred and “ACE” are the best of buds. He was always going to support McCain.
Writing in is a cop out.
There will be two candidates. You must summon the mental energy to decide between the two. To not vote for one of the two is to throw away your vote, to cop out.
There is an outside chance Fred will be on the ticket.....
Fred thinks Barry’s a babe?
Ewwwwww.
Love Thompson. He is correct.
Right. I’m not voting for him either...Americans have to understand that McCain is a centerist Democrat. Has been since at least 2001. Forget the ACU rating...it doesn’t cover the bit stuff: Amnesty, McCain/Feingold, Gang of Fourteen.
So he’s “better” than Obama? I’m not so sure.
Fred Thompson needs to refund my money, as he clearly misrepresented himself as distinct from the liberal McCain
A guy who doesn’t know how many states there are is really underqualified to be POTUS IMHO!
So, if you watched the entire video, what did Thompson say? That when it came to national security, he preferred McCain’s experienced approach to Obama’s inexperience. However, Thompson also said that he disagreed with McCain on many other points. After all, he ran against him.
The argument I have with Thompson, and I was a big supporter, is that you cannot separate the National Security issue from the immigration/border issue. If you’re not strong on the border, you’re not strong on National Security. PERIOD!
Which is it America?
Honestly, somebody will have to come pull me to the polls to vote for John, he just continues to irk my conservative sensibilities time and time again. Sometimes the phrase, if confronted with a choice between two evils - choose neither. It will be tough voting for him.
You’re obviously drinking way too much fine Dem Whine! Just ‘hold your nose, eat $h1t and vote for McLoser’ like the rest of us....get with the plan!
Vindication.
I do not want this, and support the statements of Fred Thompson.
Some of the comments sounds like those of cry babies. We need to work to get more conservatives in office in the fall, and perhaps a strong conservative as VP.
Instead, I just hear whining on Freerepublic...
We have NO conservative candidate.
No, you must summon the intestinal fortitude not to compromise your morals.
No support for McKLAin here.
In addition, and perhaps more importantly, we must work at the state level to eliminate ALL OPEN PRIMARIES so that we never again get stuck with a nominee that does not have the support of a majority of registered Republicans.
LOL! Yeah, that’s the spirit.
doesn’t even depend on “foot in the grave’s” Veep! “Foot in the grave” wins. You just can’t imagine Obama as President! Threat to mankind, threat to the civilized world, another Jimmah, but President? NEVER!
We don't need a pro-Shamnesty, pro-Global Warming, close-GITMO, no-water-boarding, no-drilling-in-ANWR, bi-partisan, BOHICA RINO geezer in the woods either...
If he was too tired and old in '08 to win in a field of RINOs, what makes anyone think that things will improve in 2012.
Who indeed! "My candidate didn't get the nomination", "The GOP candidate we stuck ourselves with is really a democrat", "Oh boo-hoo", "I'll show the GOP, I'll not vote for our candidate because we deserve a real democrat like Obama". At least Fred knows that the result of our poor choices in the primary is better than any democrat. A POS like McCain is better for the constitution than the party of traitors who have actively worked to dismantle it since the day it was ratified.
Since McCain is the ONLY Republican nominee, it’s expected that not only Fred, but all of the other candidates would be behind him to win the Presidency. Fred didn’t ‘endorse’ McCain, he endorsed the Republican nominee.
With all due respect to Mr. Thompson, Mr. McCain has been unable on at least two occasions, to understand that 1). Al Qaeda does not operate within the borders of Iran, and 2). Why this is a critically important bit of information and why failing to understand this is failing to understand the entire region. If someone with foreign policy experience is what we want, Mr. McCain doesn't seem able to give it to us.
Thompson said we need John McCain, whom he describes as being "right on the major issues" that are vital to America - National Security, Judicial Appointments, and Taxes/Trade. . .
National Security... is that another word for open borders than terrorists can easily cross?
Judicial Appointments? Who knows? John McCain is a Maverick, remember? He reaches across the aisle. So, why should I think he'll be any better than anyone else?
Taxes/Trade... McCain's record on Taxes says different. His record on open borders/trade with other countries says differnet, too.
So, as much as I appreciate Mr. Thompson's kind words for Mr. McCain, no dice.
So by not voting for McCain, I guess you'd prefer to have a President who is NOT supportive of our military or our efforts in the War on Terror, is FOR higher taxes, is FOR nationalized health care, FOR Partial Birth Abortion and Government funding of abortions for poor women, and is FOR appointing Justices to the Supreme Court who will approve homosexual 'marriage', and generally legislate from the bench, the way the Supremes of the 70's did, forcing a socialist agenda.
Troops in Kosovo. - This amendment would strike the provision in the military construction appropriations bill that would terminate funding for continued troop deployment in Kosovo unless Congress authorized the deployment. The provision also declared that no more than 75 percent of year 2000 supplemental spending for Kosovo could be obligated until the president certified that the European allies were paying specific percentages of the costs involved. If the administration did not certify those requirements by July 15, 2000, then the remaining money could by used only to withdraw the troops. The amendment to strike the Kosovo provision of S. 2521 passed the Senate on May 18, 2000 by a vote of 53 to 47. (Roll Call 105). Fred Thompson voted FOR this amendment.
You may be right. I just said I’m not sure. McCain has come close to changing partys twice. He sponsored a law amending the first amendment. He tried to force an amnesty bill through last year.
I am not sure that he won’t appoint three Souters to the Supreme Court. Are you?
No power on this early can force me to vote for McKLAin.
Sorry, Fred’s wrong on this one.
Carter opened the door for Ronald Reagan.
Clinton opened the door for the 1994 Republican sweep of both the Houses and the Senate.
Obama’s incompetence would see a replay of the 1994 sweep while accomplishing nothing during his first 2 years out of sheer idiocy.
McCain, however, would opt into every idiot scheme the Liberals proposed and would lead to a sweep of Congress for the Democrats after his first two years.
Living in Maryland, it really doesn’t matter HOW I VOTE as the state will go for the Democrat no matter what.
Obviously, you are living in a “it really doesnt matter HOW I VOTE as the city/state/country will go for the Democrat no matter what.” country! That’s how we got the 2006 abortion of an election! That ONE voter can believe that, let alone 50,000,000 or so is the shame the country will have to live with until the media/academia/whatever begin to realize that communism wasn’t such a good idea after all!
No, I live in the state of Maryland which will go so overwhelming Democrat that it doesn't matter how I vote.
Which is probably a good thing because I would never vote for McKLAin.
I'm thinking of voting for the Green Party here because if they get enough votes, they'd automatically qualify for the next election and that ticks off the Left because it helps split their vote.
Apparently we're not going to do a security clearance either.
I don’t think Thompson is a RINO. But I do think he’s a party guy. And he did the right thing after Romney backed out of the race to throw his support behind McCain. If you’re working within the party system, that’s your obligation.
All sorts of public bickering within the leadership isn’t going to solve anything. It’s in the backrooms and the grassroots from which change has to occur.
Mitt and Fred were my top 2 guys. I’d have been happy with both. Both took far more conservative stances than McCain. Now I’d like to see them attempt to influence McCain to stay on a more conservative track. Heaven knows that’s next to impossible, but it’s all we’ve got now.
“Fred and ACE are the best of buds. He was always going to support McCain.”
Of couse he was. So were Hunter, Huckabee, Giuliani, Romney, Tancredo, and any other Republican who sought the GOP nomination. The only exception is Ron Paul who ran as a Libertarian some years ago.
