Obama policy on Cuba draws criticism
United Press International ^ | May 18, 2008 | United Press International

Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama has drawn criticism from some Cuban Americans who disagree with his policy on negotiating with U.S. enemies.

The Washington Times reported Sunday that the Illinois senator will likely have to defend his policy this week when he meets with the Cuban American National Foundation, in his first campaign stop in Florida in nine months.

Obama has said that if elected president he would hold direct talks with hostile governments, including Cuba's communist leaders.

In addition to holding talks with Cuban leaders including President Raul Castro, Obama has said if elected he would relax restrictions on travel to Cuba and allow Cuban Americans to send money for their families on the island.

Some Cuban exile groups, like The Directorio Cubano in Miami, disagree with Obama's position on talks with the Castro regime.

"We think there should be no negotiations or conversation with Raul Castro until he has released all political prisoners and made moves toward democracy," said Orlando Gutierrez, Directorio Cubano's national secretary.

Obama: friend of every commie and terrorist on the planet.

Yet some folks think he won’t do that much damage if he’s CIC.

Better wake up, America. FAST

barring a disastrous campaign, I think McCain has FL in hand already. I am less familiar with WV politics, but I would sense that it is even safer. If Obama took fire, FL could become a tossup again. I think Obama is pretty much cooked in WV, considering that more than half their democrats refused to vote for him last week when he has essentially won their nomination.

All the work Jimmy Carter did to try to change his legacy is about to be wasted when his real record is compared to what Ears wants to do.

That would be considered a family reunion - eh?

I don’t know, fl might be a toss-up. I can see the rest of the state just getting ticked off at the cubans.

The easiest way to shut up the anti-castro groups is to say “Ok, we’ll give the embargo another 40 years, then we’ll try something new.”

The anti-castro groups are now just holding a grudge and acting out of spite.

Obama can pretend all he wants that this just involves careful negotiation and nothing is given up. That is BS.

Announcing you want talks with a whole list of rogue nations is a distinct change in policy, and strongly implies our policies are the problem. Obama's concern that we "demonized" those countries comes straight out of Rev. Wright's sermons.

McCain surprised a whole lot of people in Florida.
Not so much the people who saw the internals here, including Fred.

McCain had Lieberman - the dumbass - down here stumping for him all over the state, particularly with the Cubans.
Barring something really stupid by McCain, which I do not discount, I see Florida going solidly GOP.

Now that is in part because of the incredible stupidity of the DNC with the primary here, and the fact that the overwhelming amount of Dems are strong Hillary supporters, but are far less than impressed with Obama.
The NObama signs are popping up here already.

Couple this with the stupid course of action by Obama regarding the Cuban vote, and it doesn't look good for him here, although I do wonder which candidate will out-stupid the other.

I don't know where you came up with that analysis, but you don't sound like you live here.
The rest of the State might get ticked off at the Cubans when they stop totally agreeing with them...

Keep going and keep talking all the way into John McCains Victory party. What groups are you going to offend next?

“..barring a disastrous campaign, I think McCain has FL in hand already..”

Obambi got slaughtered in Ohio and PA by Hillary. Assuming not all Dems come home, the idiot McCaine may just win.

When Harrison took office in 1841 at the age of 68, he was the oldest man to become President - a record that stood for 140 years, until Ronald Reagan was inaugurated in 1981 at the age of 69. Harrison died thirty-one days into his term — the briefest presidency...hmmm

Obama is a commie. We’re going to need a large turnout in the 35+ crowd to offset Obamania.

Those duped by “Obama girl” won’t listen to reason or logic.

Yes, I hope much of Florida is mad now.

I live in South East Florida. Lots of Cuban expatriates in the area. Many more of these folks are politically aware then your other every day guy.
Those here don’t want to deal with this socialist regime, they want to defeat the Castro boys.
Can’t do that with a socialist Obamma Lamma Ding Dong.

Obama is a socialist with delusions a charasmatic following of liberals. Sounds a little like Hitler’s early years, doesn’t it.

Some of my friends in Miami have cousins in Castro’s jails. Carter talked human rights to death, yet torture was going on under his nose when he visited Fidel. Obama will never carry Florida.
1.The Cubans want their property back and tend not to like blacks (most have a bit of african blood and are touchy on this subject - and are heavily Republican anyhow.
2. The south Fla Jewish community know that Obama will cooperate with Iran and will cut Israel loose to fend for itself. They also don’t trust blacks.
3. The Panhandle are plain folk and see McCain as one of the greatest war heros of our time.
4. Obama will only get the homos and Haitians & however many blacks are down there.
This election is about standing up for Israel, regardless of how much it costs or lives lost. It’s about getting Cuban factories and farms back for the Miami folk who left it behind because Fidel would have executed them otherwise. (The MSM has always hidden the real number Castro exterminated - he’s the Hitler of the Caribbean. May he hang from a lamppost. And in the Panhandle, its about Patriotism and who loves this country (mCain) and The One who despises it but who loves Islam. Rev Wright actually hinted at this (Obama’s a politician and says what he has to).
Florida will go for McCain 60/40.
