Obama: Iran is Just a Tiny Country
Town Hall ^ | 5/19/08 | Amanda Carpenter

Posted on 05/19/2008 12:10:54 PM PDT by kathsua

Likely Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama told supporters Iran is just a “tiny” country at a campaign stop in Oregon Sunday evening.

"Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They don't pose a serious threat to us the way the Soviet Union posed a threat to us,” Obama said.

Obama’s rivals, including his fellow Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton, have criticized Obama for his willing to meet with Iran, a state sponsor of terrorism.

Presumptive GOP presidential nominee John McCain issued a strong retort to Obama's assessment at a stop in Chicago on Monday. "The biggest national security challenge the United States currently faces is keeping nuclear material out of the hands of terrorists," McCain said. "Should Iran acquire nuclear weapons, that danger would become very dire, indeed. They might not be a superpower, but the threat the Government of Iran poses is anything but "'tiny.'"

Combative exchanges between Obama and McCain over negotiations with Iran dominated the media’s coverage of the 2008 election last week. From the podium of the National Rifle Association’s national conference McCain said, “I have some news for Senator Obama: Talking, not even with soaring rhetoric, in unconditional meetings with the man who calls Israel a 'stinking corpse' and arms terrorists who kill Americans will not convince Iran to give up its nuclear program.

“It is reckless to suggest that unconditional meetings will advance our interests," McCain said.

Obama seemed to brush off these concerns about Iran’s threats while campaigning in Oregon. “Iran, they spend 1/100th of what we spend on the military. If Iran ever tried to pose a serious threat to us, they wouldn't stand a chance,” Obama said.

“Germany is a tiny country too, and so is Japan. This guy is an idiot.”

Just what I was thinking.

Germany 13,7826 sq. miles
Iran 63,6296 sq mi

Iran’s population 71 million
German population 82 million (of which 15 million are foreigners and a general aged population).

he’;s been saying this stuff for months now but the likes of MSNBC, NBC,CBS and CNN will no mention it to their viewers

did you know a woman heavily into politics and a obama voter supporter(yes I know they are thick) had never heard of Obama being friendly with a terrorist , a man who planted bombs and said recently he wished he did more

she had never heard of this and thought the people on Fox were making it up

I was surprised so I asked this woman I saw with an Obama sticker on here car about it

she looked at me and said I was making it up and Obama is not like that and she went on about how we wants change bla bla

she was clueless , as is every obama voter I have had the misfortune to have met or seen

Though it is funny when you ask these people with Obama stickers on their cars about him

they really are thick

Then again, the people buying Obama’s load of bull are typically too dull to think of such things.

Good Lord man. This truly proves that you have no idea what the hell is going on.

First of all, the cold war was not as fluid as our current geopolitical structure is today. The Soviet Union was at least a well defined entity and MAD was an effective deterrent.

Iran is run by nut jobs who “winning” strategy does not necessarily require their own survival. MAD wont work on these loons.

The size of the country is insignificant in nuclear warfare and it is almost impossible to defend against someone who is willing to trade a life for a life.

You need to go crawl back into the hole you came from sir. You don't have a clue what the real world is like and you are just going to get us all killed.

And then he said that Kennedy got Khrushchev to get the missiles out of Cuba by negotiation. Yea and the Strategic Air Command at Def Con 2.
*****************************************************
The real story is that idiot Kennedy for all intents and purposes invited the Soviets to build the missile base in Cuba by failing to back the “Bay of Pigs” invasion force ... they didn’t just think we were weak THEY KNEW IT! ... years later we found out that the price Kennedy paid to get the Soviets to back down was the closing of our forward nuke bases in Turkey... and to think some libs actually consider that maroon who fell asleep on watch and had his patrol boat run over by a Jap cruiser ,,, too bad the watch on that jap cruiser didn’t notice that crunching sound as they ran over him...

Iran’s population of 65 million, rapidly growing toward 80 million, is just where Germany was in the mid-30s.

They have enormous oil and gas resources allowing them to buy, borrow, or steal lots of western technologies including WMDs. Sure, they do not have all the technical expertise (yet) of a Nazi Germany or the USSR. But they are acquiring lots from the west and developing what they can on their own, acquiring from Russia and China, etc.

Granted, they are a lot smaller than the USSR was, but they are not ‘tiny’ and Obama has proved yet again that he is an ignorant moron. Who does he think we’re dealing with, Bahrain?????

The Mullahs have proved they are quite willing to sponsor extensive international terrorism, subversion of governments, a growing genocidal assault on Israel, etc.

No, Obama, they are not a ‘tiny’ country or a miniscule threat. Yes, they are not in many ways the same caliber of threat as the USSR or the Axis Powers of WWII..... YET.

But whatever they lack in armaments and resources, they display an absolutely lethal willingness to slaughter infidels wherever they can.

Obama is unfit for the presidency or even for his current seat in the US Senate!

I’m surprised Hillary hasn’t waded in on this one. This is another example of how dangerous this guy is. If you get him talking, he usually says something pretty stupid. He said a bunch on the economy showing his total lack of knowledge on Capitalism.

I would hate to point out to Mr Fauxbama that Nazi Germany (137,847 sq miles) is much smaller than Iran (636,296 sq miles)... So I guess based on Mr. Fauxbama’s idiotic view of the world, that whole WWII thing, extermination of the Jews, etc must have never happened.

What a complete and abject idiot... The fact this guy is remotely close to the nomination just shows how fundamentally ignorant the typical democratic voter must be. This is the type of argument I would expect from a pre-schooler.

Well, stupid is as stupid does, and Fauxbama is proving that by the hour.

You know what the really sad thing is, and what some politician SHOULD SAY IS? Is that Iran once was a great country. It’s military was formidable, it loaned money to the UK. It had educated professionals, artists and great thinkers who live abroad now, many here as MDs and scientists. It’s “tiny” now only in comparison to what it once was.

This guy is absolutely nuts. I guess he never heard of JAPAN with that pesky little attack on December 7, 1941.

I guess he figures size is relative. After all, we have 8 more States now than we did then.

The Bush Administration was severely criticized as being arrogant because of it’s characterizations of ‘Old Europe’. I wonder if the MSM will be just as harsh of Obama’s characterization of these nations being ‘tiny’ (i.e., insignificant).

I’m sure that we will be hearing criticism of this arrogant rhetoric by Obama from the MSM any minute now......./crickets chirping....

It is absolutely breathtaking how unqualified this man is to be even considered for the presidency.

Correct. The feckless Kennedy almost got us all killed. I remember being in 8th grade that Monday waiting for the sirens to go off. We all thought nukes were coming.

Obambi is going to get a lot of people killed.

This man is not merely unfit to be POTUS - he is unfit to be a US Senator. Just because a country is not the size of the USSR (which one is?) does not mean it cannot pose severe lethal threats to its neighbors, and certainly terrorist threats to US citizens worldwide.

The Mad Mullahs are perfectly willing to contemplate nuclear exchanges (they have said so) and would regard it as a ‘victory’ if they could destroy Israel and/or millions of infidels elsewhere..... so what if millions of Iranians die too, for the Mullahs that’s just the best road to paradise.

Heads of state of death cult countries are going to love Obama. They will tell him sweet nothings and he will fall in love with them. He will give them whatever they want.

It’s sickening to think that this affirmative action candidate will be elected by millions of women (and a few men) with a sexual fantasy.

No, both Japan and Germany had large populations, strong industrial bases and well trained armies. Iran has none of that.
