Amnesty alert: 10 GOP Senators protest Feinstein/Craig illegal alien farmworker amendment

The good news: Republican senators went on record against the Feinstein/Craig illegal alien farmworker amendment today in a letter to Majority Leader Harry Reid.

The bad news: There were only 10 of them willing to put their names on the letter:

Sen. Inhofe wants you to sign the No Amnesty letter. You can do so here. The text:

Dear Majority Leader Reid:

We write to express disappointment that the Senate Appropriations Committee chose to include in the War Supplemental more than 100 pages of immigration language that would grant legal status to more than one million illegal alien agricultural workers and their families. We urge you to remove these controversial provisions from the bill so we can enact essential funding for our troops without delay. If these provisions remain in the bill, you can expect a vigorous debate on immigration policy.

As noted here previously, Sen. David Vitter will offer an amendment to strip the Feinstein/Craig provision from the Iraq war supplemental bill.

From Vitter’s office:

U.S. Sen. David Vitter today joined fellow immigration reform-minded colleagues in a letter to U.S. Senate Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid expressing disappointment in the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee’s inclusion of the Feinstein AGJobs language to the Iraq War emergency funding bill and urging for the controversial provision to be removed. Vitter joined U.S Sens. Jeff Sessions, Charles Grassley, Tom Coburn, Johnny Isakson, Saxby Chambliss, James Inhofe, John Barrasso, Elizabeth Dole and Jim Bunning on the letter.

“The Democratic leadership is building a reputation for sneaking unpopular provisions that would never see the light of day as stand-alone bills into larger necessary pieces of legislation, like the Iraq War supplemental funding bill,” said Vitter. “When will the amnesty proponents learn that the American people want border security and enforcement as their immigration reform policy, not sweeping amnesty for millions of illegal aliens? I join my colleagues in urging the Democratic leader to remove the Feinstein AG Jobs provision.”

Vitter also announced that he will introduce an amendment today to strike that Feinstein AGJobs language from the Iraq War emergency funding bill.

“My clear and concise amendment will simply state that the immigration amnesty language should be removed. We need to fight this bad policy and raise the awareness of the American people,” added Vitter.

Vitter is the chairman of the U.S. Senate Border Security and Enforcement First Caucus.

Make your voice heard.

Ten so far. I wouldn't be surprised to see more names added as the pressure increases.

I'd only be echoing other posters by saying that it might be a different story the next time around, i.e., 2009, when we get a pro-amnesty president regardless of which of the Tres Amigos is in office.

... but... but... but, just today -- right here, on this very board; by multiple Team Juan shills, no less -- I was absotively, posilutely ASSURED that McCain has "heard America," re: amnesty for illegal aliens!

How can this possibly be, calcowgirl? How, oh how, COULD THIS POSSIBLY @#$%ING BE -- ?!? ;)

I’m not surprised. Dole is in trouble and I think she may be starting to realize it.
I called her office this morning and had a hard time getting through, busy, busy, busy. They had to put me on hold a couple times to answer other calls and ask them to hold.

I think she got a shock when the unknown running against her got about 10% in the Pubbie primary earlier this month and I recently saw a poll that shows her neck and neck with the Dem candidate for the seat in Nov. She may lose and it will be her own darn fault.

From your lips to God’s ear. Did you see that 41% of Hillary’s supporters will vote McCain if she doesn’t get the nomination? Sorry, I should have made sure you were sitting down first...

You think that next year, on the Senate floor, SENATOR McLame (D-Arizona), will reintroduce his McAmnesty legislation? Maybe, after he cuts a deal with Reed to chair a committee after he switches parties after his landslide defeat this fall.

Prescient call. I can definitely see that happening.

Thanks! Yet another route to take.

Incidentally, the last Beck/Numbers USA update I received reports a record number of faxes ordered yesterday in response to the attempted AgAmnesty deception. I hope there were an equal number of calls made.

What! I find that hard to believe. I wonder if these “Hillery Voters” are just blowing off steam. They’ll fall back into the liberal fold ... I can’t believe that there are THAT many recists in the Dem party. /sarc

It’s still in the appropriations committee so us peons can’t go look it up. It sounds like it is pretty close to an amendment(s) introduced by Feinstein back in 2007,
S.237 and S.340.

Sneaky Amnesty Tricks In Iraq Supplemental Bill
Posted: 05/20/2008

This is why we keep close watch on Congress. In a bipartisan effort accomplished quickly and virtually under the table, Sens. Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) — in Senate Appropriations markup of the War Supplemental bill — obtained approval of an amendment that would create an amnesty for illegal alien farm workers. The measure, called the Emergency Agriculture Relief Act, was added to the War Supplemental bill in a 17-12 vote last Thursday.

Known as the AgJob amendment, the Feinstein-Craig measure revived instantaneously the controversy that caused conservatives to lash out at the White House and Congress last summer.

Ah... if he would only start hearing the citizens of the United States instead of the occupants of the Americas.

Even ol’ Robert Byrd knows this thing stinks.

I see Jim Inhofe is doing his job, as usual. I can think of 3 or 4 senators I’d keep in that viper pit. The rest of worse than useless, especially the ones who spend all their time campaigning...I would rather they just leave and not get brain tumors, though.....:<(

“I am proud to be an Okie...especially since my two senators, Jim Inhofe and Tom Coburn, have the fortitude to stand up for what’s right.”

Well, dang! I’ve got about a thousand relatives buried in Oklahoma, can I be an Okie too!!! My senator is the sponsor of this mess.

Sure got quiet in here. Where’s all the Juan McCain trolls at? You sure don’t see them coming out defending their boy’s conspicuous absence on this vote.

[Craig also voted against the Cronyn amendment. His talk of resigning was all a farce - he was waiting to push for amnesty.]

Queenie Craig found out there were a lot more promising rest rooms to frequent in the DC area than in Idaho and he decided he wasn’t ready to leave all those “behind” and resign...
