Clinton Wins in Another Overwhelmingly White State as Obama is Backed by Former KKK Member

Another overwhelmingly white state backed Hillary Clinton with a landslide victory early today.

The former First Lady won by as much as 30 points in Kentucky just a week after she trounced Barack Obama by 41 per cent in West Virginia.

Seven in ten white Kentucky voters sided with Mrs Clinton, according to exit polls.

The carbon copy triumph in a southern state dominated by rural, low income families once again highlights fears that Mr Obama has failed to win over key white voters.

But it did little to dent the Illinois senator's almost invincible lead in the race for the Democrat presidential nomination.

Mr Obama was confident of sharing the primary spoils with a decisive win in Oregon when the results are counted this morning.

Although the north-western state has a largely white demographic, the better educated voters fell into his core support group – a fact underlined by the record 75,000 crowd that turned up to hear him speak in the state at the weekend.

The latest results rolled in as Mr Obama's bid to become America's first black president won support from a most unlikely quarter –- a 90-year-old senator who was once a leader in the Ku Klux Klan.

Robert Byrd was an outspoken opponent of the civil rights movement and was against integrating the U.S. military.

He was also a recruiter and leading member of the Ku Klux Klan, the race hate group that hid behind sinister cone masks and white robes to terrorise blacks in America's deep south.

But the longest-serving senator in history later renounced his racist views after his teenage grandson died in a 1982 road crash.

'The death of my grandson caused me to stop and think,' he said, adding he came to realise that black people love their children as much as he does his.

As late as 2001, however, he referred to "white niggers" in a newspaper interview, then promptly apologised when his words caused a storm of protest.

The Democrat elder statesman publicly endorsed Mr Obama yesterday, calling him a 'shining young statesman', despite his home state of West Virgnina backing Mrs Clinton in last week's primary.

The 46-year-old Illinois senator marked the milestone of winning a majority of the state-by-state delegates needed to clinch the nomination with a major speech in Des Moines, Iowa, the scene of his first breakthrough win in January.

Mrs Clinton, soldiering on despite her dwindling hopes, won as expected in Kentucky, but couldn't quash demands for her to drop out.

Clearly annoyed that her rival was acting as though the race was already over, the 60-year-old former First Lady insisted: 'You can declare yourself anything, but if you don't have the votes it doesn't matter.

After days of avoiding any controversy, Mrs Clinton also sounded a sour note last night by complaining of 'deeply offensive' sexism on the campaign trail.

The Obama camp believes that the predicted landslide in Oregon could leave him just 50 to 75 delegates short of the total 2,026 needed to claim the nomination to fight Republican John McCain, 71, in November's presidential election.

Mr Obama had 1,915 delegates to Mrs Clinton's 1,721 going into yesterday's primaries, which had a combined 103 delegates at stake.

He also holds his largest lead yet in a nationwide Gallup poll, with a margin of 55 per cent to 39 per cent. In mid-January, he was trailing by 20 points.

Yesterday, he also picked up another six superdelegates, the elected officials and party insiders who can declare support for either candidate.

Mrs Clinton added none and the main question now is whether enough superdelegates will break ranks and side with her opponent before the final primaries on June 3 in South Dakota and Montana.

After yesterday's votes, just three more contests remain with 86 delegates on offer.

I heard him say those words in a television interview a few years ago. The moderator didn't even roll his eyes, as I recall.

The article itself contains an interesting point. Obama can't get a majority white vote in the "Progressive Party" (Demonrats). How's he going to win the general election? There was another article on this forum about how many gaffes he's committed during the course of the campaign. If McCain can shore up his conservative base and pick a good VP candidate, Obama will go down in a giant flaming fireball. The Dems really painted themselves into a corner this time. I have to wonder how they'll manage to blame Republicans for that (you KNOW they will).

Studies done on diversity (yeah, they actually have done some studies instead of just accepting the dogma) show that the MORE interaction and integration between people of different cultures, the more strife and conflict there is. IE, less "understanding".

Isolating the Democratic candidate as an out of touch elitist and limousine liberal has been an effective tactic since 1972, when Nixon trounced McGovern. However, we may be seeing a period of shifting paradigms, as occurred in the Great Depression, when the Republican ascendancy that dominated politics from 1864 to 1932 ended, and the cultural and economic turmoil of the late 1960s and 1970s, which put an end to the Democrat dominated era of the New Deal and the Great Society. Consider the fact that President Bush won his two elections against Gore and Kerry, two bona fide limousine liberals, by narrow electoral vote margins, and actually lost the popular vote against Gore. In contrast, Nixon, Reagan, and the elder Bush handily defeated liberal opponents McGovern, Mondale, and Dukakis, who were not even "born to the manor" as were Gore and Kerry, but came from modest backgrounds. Running against the specters of Abbie Hoffman and Eldridge Cleaver is losing its potency, just as the Democrats' denunciation of Herbert Hoover and Wall Street fat cats lost its impact by the 1970s.

Even if McCain wins in November, conservatism will be on the wane in terms of its influence. The Republican Party will have to be rebuilt on conservative lines and exclude moderates entirely, or the various conservative factions will have to do what the Free Soil and antislavery Whigs and Democrats did in the 1850s: form a new political party. In any case, we must deal with changing demographics and values. Both big government conservatives and the Christian Right had better give up on liberal-style "top down" solutions like "No Child Left Behind" or amending the U.S. Constitution to ban homosexual "marriages". These groups should return to the limited government, states rights political philosophy that characterized the GOP in the past.

Murray, KY (WKYX) – Former President Bill Clinton’s visit to Murray was the first presidential visit to the area since Harry Truman, says the Murray Ledger. Murray was just one of his many stops ahead of Tuesday’s primary, stumping for his wife at Murray’s Playhouse in the Park, in which he said Hillary could still win the nomination for the Democratic Party. The rally went as well as one could hope and there was a good-sized turnout. Two protesters at the Murray ‘Hillary Rally’ were escorted by police out of the immediate enclosed area. Their sign referenced the Peter Paul campaign funding scandal.

we must deal with changing demographics and values.

Changing demographics are what unlimited immigration proponents want to see. Importing more socialists and fragmenting our society push our electorate in their favor. The whole idea is to remake our society for their benefit, and ultimately to destroy America as we know it.

I don't know that there is any "deal with changing demographics and values". I don't think it can be done, without major leadership that we just don't have in the conservative movement, and especially in the Republican Party.
