TOKYO - When Yosuke the parrot flew out of his cage and got lost, he did exactly what he had been taught — recite his name and address to a stranger willing to help.

Police rescued the African grey parrot two weeks ago from a neighbor's roof in the city of Nagareyama, near Tokyo. After spending a night at the station, he was transferred to a nearby veterinary hospital while police searched for clues, local policeman Shinjiro Uemura said.

He kept mum with the cops, but began chatting after a few days with the vet.

"I'm Mr. Yosuke Nakamura," the bird told the veterinarian, according to Uemura. The parrot also provided his full home address, down to the street number, and even entertained the hospital staff by singing songs...

I watched a Discovery channel special on African Greys that said they could learn something like 600 words or more, and that they have the intelligence of a 2-3 year old? That is amazing.

It is true! Having a Grey is like having a perpetual toddler in the home. One has to be always on the alert when Greys are out of their cage! They can get into a heap of trouble!

Kirby , my Grey, taunts my dog always! Buster boo will be sleeping, Kirby will wake him up by calling him, and when Buster gets up looking to see who called him, Kirby will say “Go lay down boo !” Kirby then proceeds to laugh himself silly!

Friends of mine had one. I’d come over with my dog and leave the dog on the front porch. Every time the bird spotted the dog it would meow at him. They did not own a cat and never had.

A buddy of mine bought a Cockatoo at an auction one day. Took it to the vet and found out it was like 30 years old. He figured it would live another 5 or so. Very beautiful bird. Apparently it had lived in a whore house at some point in it's live because whenever a woman was in the room it would start babbling about all types of sexual activity as if it was female. Long, short it lived for like another 10 years making his life hell and he couldn't get rid of it because everytime he tried it would ask the prospective owner if they wanted a bj. Very funny stuff.

I’m wondering how many parrots, or other birds like that, have learned ‘that’s what she said’ =)

Too... many... stories...

We have had phoenix for something like eight years now

She is unbelievable And she does play with the other pets in the house! She will call the pommeranian by name to her cage tell him to “SIT!” then when he does “GOOD BOY!” she throws him a piece of her food

Now the cat she does not like very much but is stupid enough to still trust her she still tries to lure in
She calls her name in a pretty sing song “you can trust me voice” and when the silly thing goes over she bows her head way down and asks “Wanna pet my head?” The cat (who wants to touch her soooo bad) will fall for it nearly everytime When she reaches up Phoenix of course will try to bite her paw then laughs hysterically We have to keep them seperated or else the cat would be toeless

The other cats dont fall for it so Phoenix only tries it on the one but she does feed both dog

I just do not have time to go into how much she pulls on us

She is unbelievable! And TOO MUCH FUN!!!

Old joke: A guy spends out Big Bucks for a multilingual parrot and gives it to his friend as a present.

Weeks later the guy asks his friend how he likes the parrot. “It was delicious” says the friend. The guy goes ballistic. “You stupid SOB, that bird could speak seven different languages!” His friend replies, “Then why didn’t he say something?”

“He kept mum with the cops...”

Of course he did, he’s a parrot...not a stool pigeon.
