According to his own map, Obama cannot win the White House

Posted on 05/21/2008 10:45:48 AM PDT by Scythian

See http://www.barackobama.com/resultscenter/

Hillary has New York, California, Pennsylvania, Ohio and most likely she would have won Florida, those are all must win states for the White House, and Obama has none of them.

I love to see an electoral college vote count that ovelays this map.

TOPICS: Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: 2008; electoralcollege; obama; tossups

You can't conclude, based on this, that Obama can't take NY and CA in the general.

Fact is it shows that Obama is strongest outside of the biggest blue states. That is a strong point in Obama's favor.

It’d be really cool to have a 3 way Obama, Clinton, McCain.

Democrat primaries and caucuses are different animals from the fall elections. While I like to think Obambi will face an uphill battle in a lot of the key states, you cannot translate primary results into general election results without analyzing a lot of details about which Clinton voters will still go for Obama in the fall, etc.

My point is those big states could easily go for McCain and not Obama (not that he is running against Hillary).

How about a 4 way with a conservative running?

It will be different when Obama runs against McCain. However, I do agree that Obama’s weakness in these primaries will put these states in play. Having NY and CA in play means that he’ss havbe to spend tim e and money there that a ‘rat candidate shouldn’t have to spend.

All Hussein Obama needs is an endorsement by Bin Laden, Hamas, Hezbollah, and terrorists worldwide and then every Liberal in the USA will be trampling on each other to vote for him. Combine that with DemoRAT voter fraud and he’s a winner!! USA and our way of life will be the loser.

Yeah but...Obama's big nights in those red states came pre-Wright scandal. Ever since he's been abyssmal. Who ever heard of a party's presumptive nominee losing a primary thsi late in the game? Whoever heard of one losing 65% to 30%? Obamaa's in deep trouble.

Any strategy he has, will fall short because he won’t carry United States of Applachia.

Hillary and Bill are going to do everything in their power as well, to make sure he doesn’t.

Poor kid, he thought he could beat Clintons.

They are like the villians of a horror movie - they don’t die or lose.

I fear that there are far too many Americans who are easily swayed by lofty rhetoric and a great speaking voice who will vote for this empty suit just because he makes them ‘feel good’.

It’s closer than NBC would have you beleive. Isn’t Hillary within a few hundred thousand votes if we count Michigan and Florida?

There are going to a lot of PO’d rats when Hillary is shoved out of the way of the Obama Train.

McCain should/will do no more than open a front office in NY and CA. Spending more money than that will be like throwing cash into an incinerator. Cash he doesn’t have.

That’s HRC’s argument, and it’s a good one.

It's a long time til August. I won't be at all surprised if she ends up the nominee...no matter what happens. It won't surprise me.

It is obvious to me that the reason the so called “low income white vote” is going to Clinton is that this group will note vote for a black man. This vote normally would not vote for a female either but, I guess, a white woman is preferable to a black man. I think it is as simple as that. Of course you did not see this said by the pundits on TV. In the general election this vote will go to McCain no matter who the Democrats run in November. Against a white man both Obama and Hillary would lose this group.

Others have pointed out how silly it is to compare the primary votes to projected general election votes. Obama won all the Deep South states over Hillary, which he won't take over McCain in the general election. Conversely, Hillary won California, New York and Massachusetts, which McCain won't win in the general election.

I did a rough calculation, and based just on this map I think Obama actually would have more electoral votes than Hillary anyway, though not the 270 needed to win the presidency.

really drjimmy? Go to http://www.270towin.com and look at 2004, Kerry hardly won anything, but he did win the same states Hillary is winning, had he won Ohio he would have one, and Hillary has that too.

Actually, a three-way race could hand the White House to either Obama or Clinton. All Clinton has to do is win a couple of states and win enough EVs so that no candidate would have a majority of the EVs, which would throw the election into the hands of the House of Representatives.

In this case, each state gets one vote, and the Dems are currently the majority of the delegation from more states than the GOP. So, once the PTB within the Democrat Party decide who the "chosen one" is, they'll win the House vote and be sworn into the Presidency on Jan 20, 2009.

What do Kerry and 2004 have to do with anything? If you’re going to claim that the map you show has something to do with who will win the general election, look at that map, count the electoral votes in the states Obama has won in the primaries and count the electoral votes in the states Hillary has won in the primaries. It does not show that Obama cannot win the White House.

I asked my ultra-Hillary backing neighbor this afternoon if she would vote for Obama. She has previously tried to persuade me (!!!) to vote for Hillary because "come on, we deserve a woman in the White House".

She told me today that she knew Hillary probably can't win and will be throwing her efforts behind Obama when the time comes due to him being "pro-choice"...

If she is any indication, and I think she is, then many (most?) will throw themselves behind Hillary.
