Clinton must play all her cards now - Obama camp's math shows magic number within reach

Two weeks before the final primary in their marathon battle, Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton were campaigning hard Wednesday. Both were in Florida, but their goals could hardly have been more different - or said more about how each one hopes to bring their historic race to a close.

Obama, feeling sure of the Democratic nomination, was trying to stake an early claim to a state that could be crucial in the general election against Republican John McCain. Clinton, insisting she can still be her party's nominee, was making a plea for the state's disputed primary results to be counted.

Obama plans to contest the final three primaries in Puerto Rico, South Dakota and Montana, but he is already moving on, well into the early stages of a general election plan that will take him to other critical swing states in the coming weeks.

Because of how the party allocates its delegates, Obama almost certainly cannot win the nomination based on the 86 pledged delegates yet to be claimed in the final three contests.

But his advisers project that he needs just 25 to 28 more superdelegates to come aboard by the end of the primaries to put him over the top.

The campaign's estimate was confirmed through a separate tabulation by The Associated Press.

Besides seeking support from superdelegates, Clinton wants to see the results of the Florida and Michigan primaries restored.

If the Democratic Party's rules committee, meeting May 31, does not satisfactorily resolve the delegate-seating matter, the New York senator hinted Wednesday she would support a drawn-out battle that could go to the party's convention in August.

"Yes I will. I will, because I feel very strongly about this," Clinton said in an interview with The Associated Press when asked whether her campaign would support Michigan and Florida if they pressed the issue into the summer.

It’s over. Obama has the ball and is taking the knee. Nice 4th quarter comeback by clinton, but it was too little, too late.

"Yes I will. I will, because I feel very strongly about this,"

If she were in Obama's place, she wouldn't feel strongly about anything...other than becoming king.

The lead-in for this post states that Hillary needs to "play all her cards now." What cards? Her fate is no longer within her control. The May 31 meeting pretty much seals her fate.

I hope he has a wooden stake to drive through her heart, AND I hope that African American voters have FINALLY seen the other side of the Clinton/DNC coin!

Now, if we can just get them to see that Socialists will do their wallet NO GOOD... we can reach some equilibrium in this process!

There is rather a lot of buying into the concept that “Hillary is a fighter” and “tenacious” and in some way admirable because of it.

She is nothing of this.

What “fighting” is there about getting on a plane and riding around each day, sleeping in fine hotels and participating in work (campaigning) that she enjoys? What is tenacious about just getting up each morning and doing that?

This is not physical courage. This is not house to house smash and clear. This is not facing snipers on a battle field in Iraq.

This is riding around on an airplane, talking with advisers and sleeping in fine hotels, and doing it for 10 months before going on an expensive beach vacation.

This is nothing. This is not admirable. This is manufactured imagery.

There should have been a major endorsement by now, Kentucky/Oregon was 2 days ago!

Spoiler Clinton will take it to the convention no matter what, and cripple Obama as much as possible. This is good for us...insofar as President McCain is good for us...but I can’t help longing for the Beast’s concession speech.

What cards? Who knows. Maybe she has a picture of him in bed with a young boy.

The May 31 meeting pretty much seals her fate.

The old feminazis will show up and burn their support hose and bladder control products.

The only good thing to come out of this year’s political process is the death of the corrupt clinton political machine. The march toward 3rd world socialism will continue unabated.

The Dems will probably come to regret their silly and illogical method of assigning delegates to candidates.

Its not over until the convention vote. Then it is over.

A possible strategy for her would be to pretend to exit stage right while pledging he support to Obama, but without using the words that she is actually dropping out, and without releasing her delegates.

Then if/when the excrement hits Obama, she can blame it on the GOP and represent herself as the only alternative.

This has the advantage of opening the door for the return of the black vote to her.

"[Clinton] was making a plea for the state's disputed primary results to be counted"

Disputed by no one except HilLIARy supporters, who previously agreed with the results because it meant they wouldn't have to spend campaingn money in states they knew were for her highness.... before Obama show the empress had no clothes
