Hillary Clinton's rhetoric today about counting the results in Florida and Michigan is simply incredible. Her speech compares discounting the Florida and Michigan primaries to vote suppression and slavery:
She said "there's a reason why so many have fought so hard and sacrificed so much. It's because they knew that to be a citizen of this country is to have the right and responsibility to help shape its future. Not just to have your voice heard but to have it count. People have fought hard because they knew their vote was at stake and so was their children's futures.
Those people, she said refused to accept their assigned place as second-class citizens. Men and women who saw America not as it was, but as it could and should be, and committed themselves to extending the frontiers of our democracy. The abolitionists and all who fought to end slavery and ensure freedom came with the full right of citizenship. The tenacious women and a few brave men who gathered at the Seneca Falls convention back in 1848 to demand the right to vote.
It's worth repeating: They supported this "disenfranchisement." Here's a New York Times story from last fall, headlined, "Clinton, Obama and Edwards Join Pledge to Avoid Defiant States."
Moreover, it's obviously true that Obama not campaigning, organizing, or advertizing in those states hurt him, and helped the more familiar candidate in Clinton. She decided to campaign to change the rules only after it became her interest to do so.
This gambit by Clinton is simply an attempt to steal the nomination. It's obviously not going to work, because Democratic superdelegates don't want to commit suicide. But this episode is very revealing about Clinton's character. I try not to make moralistic characterological judgments about politicians, because all politicians compromise their ideals in the pursuit of power. There are no angels in this business. Clinton's gambit, however, truly is breathtaking.
If she's consciously lying, it's a shockingly cynical move. I don't think she's lying. I think she's so convinced of her own morality and historical importance that she can whip herself into a moralistic fervor to support nearly any position that might benefit her, however crass and sleazy. It's not just that she's convinced herself it's okay to try to steal the nomination, she has also appropriated the most sacred legacies of liberalism for her effort to do so. She is proving herself temperamentally unfit for the presidency.
The Clintoons lying? I'm shocked.../s
BWAAAHAAHAA!!
libs always think that, not that are they on the side of angels, they ARE the angels,
and anyone that opposes them are evil,
so anything done to defeat their opposition is allowed and required.
No it isn't.
We already know that Clinton has no compunctions about disregarding rules and promises the moment they become inconvenient for her.
What do you mean "is provING"?
The correct verb tense is "has provED".
Even the lying sack of crap The New Republic has turned on the Clintons. Usually they are too busy making up stories about the military to bother.
Hillary is being treated like a Republican by the liberal press...wonder how she likes it?
Like Captain Renault finding gambling on the premises in Rick's nightclub.
OPERATION: CHAOS continues.
“I said their votes shouldn’t count before I said they should”?
I don’t remember reading ANYTHING about political parties in the Constitution. Am I missing something?
Tell Me one thing ,WHAT HAS CHANGED ABOUT HILLARY? I dont see anything different .
Funny! Early on she was saying that the popular vote shouldn’t decide how the super delegates vote. They should be free to make up their own minds. Now she is saying that the popular vote should be used and that she is leading if you add in Michigan and Florida. Nobody is going to call her on this?
I don’t see how you can fault hillary when the Dems have been saying “Every vote must count” for years, with special reference to the Chad Wars.
So, explain to me why this is different from saying that Al Gore won in Florida in 2000? The only difference is that several recounts demonstrated that Al Gore didn’t win; whereas hillary did.
Also explain to me why picture IDs or proof of citizenship must not be required before registering to vote, lest anyone too feebleminded to get an ID should be deprived of a vote?
No, I’m not saying hillary is right, I’m just saying that The New Republic has some nerve coming out with this rant after eight years of arguing the other way.
Go home and try to keep Bill happy...that should keep you out of trouble for a while.
“”If she’s consciously lying, it’s a shockingly cynical move. I don’t think she’s lying.””
“The Clintoons lying? I’m shocked.../s”
Hellary a ruthless, power mad sociopath who’ll stop at nothing to get what she wants? Unbelievable!

Happiness is a warm cigar.
Exactly so. That is why only those who take responsibility (read: pay taxes) should get to vote for federal office holders.
Men and women who saw America not as it was, but as it could and should be, and committed themselves to extending the frontiers of our democracy.
And that right there is where she swerved and rolled it in the ditch. This ain't a democracy, it is a REPUBLIC. The sooner we remember that, the better.
Should all votes be counted? Yes or No?
Should the person who gets most votes win? Yes or No?
If you answer “Yes” to both questions, then you think Hillary should be the Democrat nominee.
It is not that complicated, really.
hillary’s transition from idiot senator to stupid dictator is not going well. Maybe she can ask obama where the extra 7 states are located and register dogs to vote.
So, because of Michigan and Florida being supposedly disenfranchised, Oregon and Puerto Rico are now getting to experience being "first-class citizens." Who's to say that one vs. the other were more deserving of that classification?

Jonathan Chait needs this episode to reveal the true nature of Hillary Clinton's character? What planet has he been on for the last 20 years?
She's 'unfit' for the presidency in every way, of course, not just temperamentally, but conservative compassion for her tragic loss may be in order.
She is clearly in Denial...the first step in the Grieving Process...over the loss of what was once to be her Coronation. The entire Clintonian political machine apparatus lays now in ruins at the feet of a young, Magic Negro, who feels her pain...as we should as well.
Yes, Hillary, I feel your pain, too...BUT...you must now make CHANGE your friend...
Most of us realized that in 1992!
yet in the same breath she thinks only the BIG STATES are important ... meaning the vots of the people in all the other states are not. She’s a hypocrite. She would be disenfranchising those voters as well. She’s whining cause she’s lost this race. She needs to get off her horse, take off the saddle and head to the barn. It’s sunset and time to close up shop for the next four years.
I enjoyed watching her obvious defeat and now I’m enjoying watching her make a fool of herself. I mean, this simply is too much to hope for. Go Hillary, Go!!!!!
