Former Vice President Walter Mondale Wednesday called on Democratic presidential hopefuls Sens. Barack Obama (Ill.) and Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) to settle their differences or risk losing the November election to the presumptive Republican nominee, Sen. John McCain (Ariz.).
Mondale, who is a superdelegate, reiterated his support for Clinton, but said, The question now is, How do we get the party united? We have to wait until the last primaries are over on June 3, but I just hope we can get through this with some unity and dignity.
Mondale, who made history as the Democratic nominee in 1984 by naming then-Rep. Geraldine Ferraro (N.Y.) as the first female nominee for vice president, indicated that Democrats may lose unless they settle the dispute over delegates from Michigan and Florida, who may not be seated because they violated party rules.
I wish they could do something to resolve the Michigan and Florida issues, because weve got to be competitive in those states, Mondale said.
Asked about reports that he is unhappy with the way Clinton has run her campaign, he said, There are some things that happened that I didnt like -- some things on both sides -- but thats over now and I think shes being careful.
Asked if he plans to be in the Twin Cities when Republicans hold their national convention in August, Mondale said, The funny thing is, my schedule has me out of town then.

“Mondale said, The funny thing is, my schedule has me out of town then.”
He has a Star Trek convention to attend. He was Dingleberry #6 in the episode: “Klingon to Uranus”

Mondale knows about unity. 48 states voted against him in 84
To: mdittmar
Yep, the dem party is about hope, change, unity. We have to remember that Obama wants to unify all 57 states and Hillary only wants to unite 50!/SAR
I hope they tear their communist party to shreds during the convention.

The most enduring memory I have of Mondale is when he participated in the joke of a funeral for Wellstone...

"Mondale, who made history as the Democratic nominee in 1984 by naming then-Rep. Geraldine Ferraro (N.Y.) as the first female nominee for vice president"
That's not the only way 'Fritz' made history, he made history along with his bumbling oaf of a campaign manager, aka Bob Beckel, by losing to Ronald Reagan in the most lopsided electoral landslide of all history, Mondale carried his home state of Minnesota, and Reagan carried the other 49 States.
Mondale even lost by a larger margin than his 'Rat predecessor Jimmy STP Carter, who was flushed to the political septic tank by a margin of 44 states to 6, 4 years before in 1980.
I'm surprised Fritz is backing Clinton after the scuttlebutt about Emperor Billigula sneaking the sausage to Mondale's daughter.
