Rev. Rod Parsley withdraws McCain endorsement
The Columbus Dispatch ^ | May 24, 2008 | NA

Rev. Rod Parsley withdraws McCain endorsement Saturday, May 24, 2008 10:08 PM

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH After saying Friday that he would not withdraw his endorsement of Sen. John McCain, pastor Rod Parsley has changed his mind.

The pastor of World Harvest Church, in the Canal Winchester area, issued a statement almost identical to one he had sent late Friday night, but with one key change: the addition of the sentence “Therefore I withdraw my endorsement.”

Spokesman Gene Pierce wouldn’t shed light on Parsley’s decision, saying only “this statement is a clarification on (Friday’s) statement.”

McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, rejected the Columbus pastor’s endorsement after holding on to it for nearly three months. Parsley has criticized Islam, calling it inherently violent and saying it is “the anti-Christ religion.”

McCain also rejected Texas televangelist John Hagee's February endorsement.

Parsley is a schmuck. McCain showed poor judgement (imagine) by ever dealing with him.

Here's my take on TV preachers. If you're on TV at all, you're questionable. If you own a private jet (as Parsley does), you're a money grubbing shyster.

I understand what you’re saying, but Parsley is a conniving thief, preying on the poor who dump millions a year into his coffers. He’s beneath contempt.

I am not familiar with him. I am familiar with Haggee - but on the sound bites of Parsley, he didn’t say anything I disagreed with. Is it just because he has money that is the issue, or is there a problem with his doctrine?

Yes. TV preachers are a unique species. But they also have scores of thousands of followers, so accept their endorsements gracefully.

Whatever Parsley is, he's right here. Only Islam is one of many expressions of the anti-Christ spirit. I am leaning towards seeing it as the prominent one of our era, though (someone give me the "Duh!" award).

The thing about preachers is not who they are as much as what they say. If you say Jesus is the only way, you are bigoted and closed minded. If you say homosexuality is an abomination, you are to radioactive to run for office. If you say abortion is murder, you can't even be a congressman in 60% of the states.

Even Catholics that think protestant preachers are all money grubbing fakes have trouble when the pope says something that isn't vanilla. This pope hasn't been here very long and has already ruffled feathers a couple of times. I like Hagee more than Parsley, but I really don't think they are out in left field as much as some of the "mainstream" preacher that wants homo preachers and think global warming is an sin to God.

I'm not impressed with McCains beliefs since he dissed the "religious right" the last presidential election. Now he thinks he can get kissy kissy with Dobson and all is forgotten. The truth is McCain isn't the Antichrist and Obama is, so most Christians will either hold their nose and vote for McCain or stay home.

Obama OTOH, voted to kill babies AFTER they were aborted but accidentally lived through it. He found Gay marriage in the Sermon on the Mount, and apparently thinks Che Guevara and Castro are New Testament prophets.

The only reason any of this came up with McCain was Rev Wright had his anal exam and they figured to do the same to McCain. I know my preacher would just make the Dems gasp and wheeze if they sat in on one of his stem-winders some Sunday. He believes abortion is murder, unrepentant sinners will burn in Hell, Jesus is the only way to God, and all those other quaint sayings in the Word of God.

So McCain dropped the endorsement of Parsley because he’s got money? Preachers need money to preach the message via radio, television etc, I see nothing wrong with that.

Very well said, chuckles.

And to those of you who are upset with these guys because they have money: Hagee NEVER solicits funds on TV, and he’s written many books. It’s likely some of the wealth you resent comes from those book proceeds.

Parsley DOES solicit funds on his TV programs, usually for specific humanitarian programs his ministry funds. But he has been tireless in his efforts to bring relief to the oppression of people in many areas of Africa, for several years now, and has actively lobbied Congress (and recruited his viewers to, as well) to rally against any pro-abortion legislation.

Both men definitely preach against radical Islam, homosexuality and abortion. And both are extremely pro-Israel in their views and in their speech. So no wonder the MSM is after them. Either guy would be a much better president than John McCain, but we take what we can get.

I am shocked at the reaction here. I love Rod Parsley. I watch his show on TBN every morning at 7:00. He is a good decent man who tries to feed the poor in Africa and tries to save unborn babies.

Hagee is a good man too. I hate to see 2 good men torn down just because of politics.

Remember Jesus told His followers that the world would persecute them. In fact, He said to rejoice when it happened, as it would be sharing His sufferings and would be rewarded.

I just hope Hagee and Parsley will stay true to the Lord and not bow to the politcally-correct nonsense of the world.

Yeah, I’ll admit I don’t follow evangelical preachers much. I never heard of either of these guys before this. Dennis Prager, who I respect very much, had a pretty impassioned defense of Hagee the other day. It sounds like he got railroaded by Obama sympathizers in the media looking for a McCain “equivalent” to Obama’s Rev. Wright problem.

So I would prefer to see doctrinal issues, not the company they keep issues. TBN is often the only “religious” channel on cable systems.

As for Parsley, he is just another in a long line of charlatans out to make a buck, or several million of them, off the ignorance of the great unwashed masses. In other words, he would have made a marvelously successful politician.

What a mistake. Talk about shysters. The CP is a total fraud. I was once sucked in by them, too. They sounded so good but my eyes were opened when I heard their radio ads before the elections of 2000 and 2004.

Their ads were against Bush, not Gore or Kerry. They were doing their very best to elect Gore and Kerry.

These thieves took my money and used it against the very things in which I believe.

They know full well, they'll never be elected to anything and they don't want to be. They're cowards. They don't want to have to be able to back up anything they say. They'd have to be open to scrutiny like other elected politicians and be held accountable.

If anyone thinks TV preachers are thieves, the CP is in the same category.

In the late-80s, during the prime time of the fall of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, I walked into the office one morning and entered a conversation that was going on, and made a comment along the lines of “hoo-hah! How about the Jim and Tammy Faye show!?”

Our receptionist at the time was probably mid-40s, big bouffant, divorcee. She lit into me big time!

“You have no right to say anything, they do so much good in the world, blah, blah, blah.”

Shocked the heck out of me, but she was obviously a big fan.

Pastor’s who issue political endorsements should be asked what their purpose is? Are they our modern day Pharisee?

What are they rendering to Cesear’s alter or God’s alter?

http://ll.newsforchristians.com/sermons/sermon009.html

Or as this sermon points out is their purpose evil? A trick being used on God’s people, much like the Pharisees?

Now, does McCain look so dumb for refusing their endorsement?

I can't think of a profession with less chance for an ethics investigation than most politicians risk. The elites are next to immune from such inane goings on. Such is left to us peons and underlings. Parsley is a stinking heap of dung, and those who literally “buy” in to his constant fund-raising ploys are hopeless fools.
