ON THE website of the Tennessee Republican Party is a short video in which residents of Nashville talk about the pride they feel for their country. One man, for example, mentions his esteem for the First and Second Amendments. A Vanderbilt graduate student says he was proud when Ronald Reagan told Mikhail Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall - "and I was prouder when it came down." A young professional woman extols the "academic and job opportunities that women have in this country." A police officer named Juan says he is proud of having immigrated to the United States, learned English, and become a citizen of this "land of opportunity and the best country in the world."
The video makes its point by alternating these upbeat comments with clips of Michelle Obama telling two different audiences in February: "For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country." In an understated press release announcing the video, the state GOP welcomed Mrs. Obama to Nashville and remarked: "The Tennessee Republican Party has always been proud of America."
One would have to have skin of microscopic thinness to take offense at so gentle and indirect a critique. No surprise, then, that Barack Obama took offense, reacting as if his bride had been slimed by slurs akin to those that enraged Andrew Jackson when he ran for president. (During the campaign of 1828, supporters of John Quincy Adams maligned Jackson's mother as a "common prostitute" and mocked his adored wife, Rachel, as a "convicted adulteress" and a "strumpet.") In an interview on ABC, Obama growled that Republicans "should lay off my wife," and described the inoffensive Tennessee video as "detestable," "low class," and reflecting "a lack of decency."

This General Election is going to get ugly based on what I have witnessed so far and unfortunately Sen McCain is going to get held to the highest of standards while Sen Obama will get a free pass based on the fact the MSM is in his corner.
But ONE of them (not counting Michelle) is going to be sitting in the oval office making important decisions everday.

What is missing is what Beloved Fearless Leader Barack will do if people want to lives their lives as usual. What mechanism does the fair gamy Michelle propose that Beloved Fearless Leader Barack use to get people to comply since he "will never allow" them to live their lives as usual. Will there be gulags? Re-Education camps? Are we going to building Beloved Leader's canal from coast to coast?
Using Obama’s own words, Obama is low class,detestable and lacks a level of decency for being so thinskinned and demanding censorship of any words and thoughts that he might find negative to him or his aspirations. The Obama campagin tries very hard to keep Michelle quiet. They know onces she gets into an interview or speech, the unsettling black liberation theology starts to flow.

As far as Barack himself is concerned--when he growled that Republicans "should lay off my wife" and that if Republicans "think that they're going to try to make Michelle an issue in this campaign, they should be careful" he revealed himself as downright stupid.
McCain is in a tough spot.
A very substantial fraction of the non-moonbat white electorate is composed of "guilty whites". This includes many Republicans, and probably a majority of independents who could be persuaded to vote for McCain.
So, if McCain attacks Obama or the Obamaess for any motive which can be portrayed as white racial consciousness, he will lose. Big. This is why he dumped on the NC GOP, and why he was right to do so.
And yet, one of the major reasons to deny the Obama family the White House is their strong anti-white beliefs.
If Johnny Mac can solve this little puzzle, he will be the next President. If he can't, he won't.

I felt attacks on Nancy Reagan were unfair and uncalled for. She never actively campaigned nor advanced any political or social agenda. Dave Wilson (also of the Boston Globe) made the observation that on one complained that Jackie Kennedy was a clothes horse, while liberals had conniptions over Nancy's wardrobe.

No, I disagree. A candidates family members are *not* fair game, unless they make themselves so, by entering the political ring. Once a person, family member or not, starts throwing political jabs, and making political declarations ..then, as they say in the Law, both Obamas being lawyers so they should know, they “open the door” for adversarial “rebuttal”.
Michelle Obama does not get to throw punches, and then get to have her husband cry “foul”, when she gets the same thrown back at her.
Compounding the tightrope Sen McCain is walking is the fact that the long knives are out for him within the Republican party. We can say what we want about Democrats, but they defend their own and we are very quick to close ranks. Additionally, many “conservatives” appear more than eager to not vote in protest or are ready to jump on a 3rd party candidate's band wagon just to thumb their noses at the establishment.

I cannot think of one major candidates spouse over the last 30 years that has not entered the political ring by not making speeches or policy opinion statements.
And this year we have Bill, Cindy and Michelle, each of which has made political speeches and statements and thus have entered the ring.
And in turn, faced political rebuttal. Laura Bush has pretty much stayed out of it, at least the first term,and has been fairly circumspect in what she’s said in the second.
Now look at Chelsea Clinton...She never made any political hay until recently, and the Press/Clinton opponents pretty much left her alone, until recently...do you see that as happening if she had started making political statements in her late teen/college years?
But that *is* a key difference. The Dems defend their own, even if they are caught red handed, and are guilty as sin.
Republicans won’t defend what shouldn’t be.
