Dear [friend]:
I'd like to update you on what's been happening since the campaign ended and to tell you about my latest venture.
First, Ann and I have some exciting news. We have three new grandchildren on the way! That'll make 14 and counting. There's nothing like the love of our growing family to remind us of the truly important things in life.
I've also been busy traveling the country again, campaigning for John McCain and appearing as a surrogate on his behalf. We've been to Pennsylvania, Nevada and Maine with plans to go to Oregon, Colorado and Texas in the coming weeks. Next week, I'll be hosting President Bush at my home in Utah for a Victory 08 fundraiser to benefit the national ticket.
And I have a new organization that I hope will make a difference in preparing our nation to meet the challenges of the future -- the Free and Strong America PAC.
Free and Strong America PAC will support officeholders and candidates who are dedicated to promoting public policies that will strengthen America at this critical time in our history. I invite you to check out our website at FreeStrongAmerica.com to learn more about us and some of the candidates we are supporting. While there, you can sign up for our newsletter, spread the word about us to your friends, and even make a contribution to support our efforts.
I must admit -- it feels good to rejoin the fight. Thanks again for your support and friendship.
Sincerely,
Mitt Romney Honorary Chairman
Among the candidates the PAC is supporting, besides McCain, is:
a first-term Congresswoman from Minnesota with an ACU rating of 100 (Michele Bachmann),
Tom Feeney of the 24th district of Florida--lifetime ACU rating of 97,
Joe Knollenberg of Michigan, ACU rating of 87,
Connie Mack, 14th of Florida, ACU rating of 88,
and Tom Price of the 6th Georgia district, ACU rating of 89.
Others are candidates for Congress....
I am happy to see Mitt is back in the game. I hope his support and work for real fiscal and social conservatives can help our cause.
Dracula's baaaaack...
Rather than “campaigning for McCain”, Romney should be campaigning against him. Tell conservatives he is going to the convention to seek the nomination, as McCain is both far too liberal and running a wholly incompetent campaign so far. (And I doubt it will get better.) I would support him, even though he is not my idea of the ideal conservative candidate. Nov. is going to be a disaster for republicans and therefore for the nation. Romney could at least interest conservatives in getting back in the game.
I checked out the people Romney is backing in this new PAC: they are EXCELLENT and need help in their campaigns. Whatever happens in November, we will need some good people in Congress.
The only one on his list about whom I have doubts is McCain. Romney may be right, that a President Obama would be such a suicidal disaster for the country, that it is better instead to have an unpredictable, cantankerous old RINO maverick instead.
One could argue: is it better to let the country go to Hell under Obama, hoping that people will come to their senses better than to risk having the public quickly get really, really tired of Republicans after a few months of McCain as an example.
I am really pessimistic. I don’t think that the public ever really comes to their senses; and if they do, it is only briefly. The Socialists will try to institutionalize all their programs and policies once Obama gets in, and we will have no more chance to dislodge them than the Iranians have to get rid of the mullahs.
Read Jonah Goldberg’s recent book “Liberal Fascism,” and you will see what is coming.
McCain has about one chance in one hundred of winning in November, and one chance in a million of being re-elected for a second term.
I contributed anyway, but if you don’t want to contribute to McCain, look at the other candidates Romney is helping, and send as much as you can to them. We will need a remnant if we are every to survive the coming disaster.
Thank goodness McDole stole Romney’s economic plan, now if we can just get him to turn on Democrats for real.
With at least half of the population now dependent on some sort of Government dole this is way,way too risky a bet. This march to socialism and national destruction must be stopped NOW!
I've been mentioning Marsha Blackburn for months--sounds like somebody else thinks she should be considered as well...
LOL
You’re late again! You know no ‘*omney’ thread is complete without you.
I might consider donating to this PAC if it was not supporting McCain.
Romney seems to have a lot more energy than your average Republican.
Wow, it only took one post for someone to resort to name-calling.
I s’pose the fact that NARAL hated Romney’s actions as governor means nothing to folks who just want to use ad hominem attacks, but the truth is there for people who want to see.
yes he does!
I translated the letter last night:
