A Pro-Choicer's Dream Veep (Pro-Abortion Catholic Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius)
The Washington Post ^ | May 26, 2008 | Robert D. Novak

Posted on 05/25/2008 10:18:59 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann, whose Roman Catholic archdiocese covers northeast Kansas, on May 9 called on Gov. Kathleen Sebelius to stop taking Communion until she disowns her support for the "serious moral evil" of abortion. That put the church in conflict with a rising star of the Democratic Party who is often described as a "moderate" and is perhaps the leading prospect to become Barack Obama's running mate.

Naumann also took Sebelius to task for her veto April 21 of a bill, passed by 2 to 1 margins in both houses of the Kansas Legislature, that would strengthen the state's ban on late-term abortions by authorizing private lawsuits against providers. Last year, she vetoed a bill requiring explicit medical reasons for a late abortion, and she vetoed other abortion legislation in 2006, 2005 and 2003.

Those positions are necessary for Democratic politicians to pass their party's pro-choice litmus test, but Sebelius's connection with abortion is more intimate. She is allied with the aggressive Kansas branch of Planned Parenthood in a bitter struggle with antiabortion activist District Attorney Phill Kline. There is substantial evidence she has been involved in what pro-life advocates term "laundering" abortion industry money for distribution to Kansas Democrats. Kansas is the fiercest state battleground in the abortion wars, making Kathleen Sebelius the national pro-choice poster girl.

If the DemonRats want to run two pro-death extremists, let them. Most Americans oppose late term abortion. We can use it against them.

I am a Catholic, and I disown her. You can lobby for “choice” and CLAIM to be a Catholic, lobby for abortion on demand and CLAIM to stand for “women’s reproductive rights”, attend mass and CLAIM that you are a Catholic in good standing...while you earn money from the Abortion Industry lobbyists.

But what would G_d have to say on the matter?

Did the virgin Mary reply to the angel of the Lord, “You know, now just really isn’t a convenient time for me...I’m thinking reproductive choice - it IS my body, you know...Besides what would my betrothed say - he’s a carpenter from a good family, you know!?”

NO! She answered “Be it unto me even as you have said...”

I do not know what to call Sebelius - but calling her Catholic seems a revolting denigration to Catholic Christianity.

I doubt if Bob Novak is “pandering” to an off-the-reservation, pro-abort Catholic...keep reading.

For the life of me, I don't understand why the Church doesn't take a stand and stick with it. Catholic doctrine is very clear on the matter - abortion is murder, a serious sin and those that support abortion are complicit. Those that are in this state of sin are excluded from receiving the sacraments, yet the Church never stands up to them and quietly looks the other way when Guiliani, Kerry, Kennedy, Pelosi, and others publicly received Communion during the Pope's visit.

Sibelius is yet another "Catholic" politician that gets a free pass from the Church, even though she publicly supports the murder of infants.

When is our Church going to finally summon the moral courage to expel these people?

I find her despicable. She claims to be moderate yet opposed ANY restriction on abortion. I almost think this issue will be one that benefits the Repubs this year just because of the extremism of the Dems. Though after every election polls show abortion low on the list of issues on which people decide their vote. But the pro life base will be so fired up and angry they just might get more of their voters to the polls. It probably won’t decide the election, but in a close one it could help.

If Sebelius is the candidate then you can be sure we will hear plenty of pious statements about how she is a great woman of principle who has the “courage” to stand up to the backwards Catholic church and all that usual nonsense.

Any time I think of the state of KS though I can’t help thinking about those 5 dead victims of the vile Wichita rape/killings of 2000. Gov Sebelius opposes the death penalty on moral grounds, so she says. These savages who terrorize, rape, and murder innocent people should live, she says. But babies can not.

I'm Catholic and I know some Catholics with very liberal views. But I don't know any liberal Catholics who condone abortion.

I'd say thats an oddity in the Catholic church, and I'm glad she's been told to stop taking communion.

That’s easy.

Her support for abortion incurs excommunication latae sententiae. Nice to see one U.S. bishop has the guts to act on that.

"I'd like to hear from everybody, but especially Catholics on this one."

To quote a bumper sticker seen in my Catholic Church's parking lot "You can't be Pro-Abortion AND Catholic".

Simply put, Sebellius isn't Catholic, no matter what she calls herself.

I know some Catholics who are pro choice but whether they actively support and condone late term abortion I don’t know. If so I would ask them why do you bother to go to mass??

I had forgotten about the Dems litmus test on this issue. How odious they are, that they won’t even accept a candidate who does not go along with their radical agenda. So who might this rule out as a running mate? Evan Bayh perhaps. How about those “moderates” from VA, Warner and Webb? I suppose neither had had to vote on the issue but they can make their position known. I suppose they will grovel and pander just to get the job.

The more rabid the better, AFIK. It will give their defeat even more impact on the Left, like when Mondale was trounced.

“Cafeteria Catholic” or what? As a Lutheran, I'd like to hear from everybody, but especially Catholics on this one.

The Catholic Church is reflexively slow to get into civil politics as a rule. Nevertheless, Pope Benedict has expressed his strong desire to see the American Church stop rolling over for pro abortion politicians. The line seems to be partial birth abortion. It is so hideous that it becomes an easy place to start. Eventually the issue will peel off a substantial percentage of rank and file democrats and cause the rat party problems. This is true because the two groups that are most against abortion are the oldest people ( not surprisingly) and the youngest people. Because young people have been exposed to rat baby murder propaganda all their lives there is now no stigma to having an out of wedlock baby. The young people then see no reason to murder their babies and are becoming pro life all be it for shaky reasons. When older rats insist that babies have to be murdered they will come to be seen as the monsters they are.

There is none. Nobody local is talking her up or making any plans for her running. Most Republicans I know find the idea funny.

Personally I don't see it. Obama's biggest weakness is his overall lack of experience in foreign policy and defense matters. Sebelius brings nothing to that. Obama will not carry Kansas with or without her on the ticket so she brings nothing in that regards either. Personally I think Obama will either pick Richardson from New Mexico - bags of foreign policy experience, legislative experience, hispanic, cabinet experience - or else he'll pick Strickland of Ohio - help carry that state. He'll have tons of women Democrats to keep the female vote in the camp.

This issue along with energy, national security, the economy and illegal immigration out to sweep the Republicans to a landslide victory.

Amazing, isn't it, how the only life Democrats are willing to protect is that of murderers. This shows the depravity of Democrats.
