First California gay weddings may be on a Saturday

San Francisco, CA (AP) -- Same-sex couples in some counties will be able to marry as soon as Saturday, June 14, the president of the California's county clerks association said Monday.

Stephen Weir, who heads the California Association of Clerks and Election Officials, said he was told by the Office of Vital Records that clerks would be authorized to hand out marriage licenses as soon as that date — exactly 30 days after the California Supreme Court ruled that gay marriage should be legal.

The court's decisions typically take effect after 30 days, barring further legal action.

"They are shooting for the 14th," said Weir, adding that the state planned to give California's 58 counties advice early this week for implementing the historic change so local officials can start planning.

An effort, however, is under way to stay the Supreme Court's decision until voters can decide the issue with an initiative planned for the November ballot. The measure would overrule the justices' decision and amend the state constitution to ban gay marriage.

Justices have until the ruling's effective date to weigh the request, but could give themselves longer to consider it, attorneys have said. Another complicating factor is that the Supreme Court also directed a midlevel appeals court that upheld the state's one man-one woman marriage laws a year ago to issue a new order legalizing same-sex marriage, and it's not clear when the appeals court would comply.

Suanne Buggy, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Public Health, which oversees the vital records office, would not confirm Monday that state officials have settled the matter of when counties can or must start extending marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

"We will be getting guidance out to the counties soon,"

Can the Earthquake come soon enough out there?

You mean like the tornados that have struck Iowa, Oklahoma, Colorado, Minnesota, Kansas and Indiana over the last couple of weeks?

Photos of Americans exercising their God given rights acknowledged in our Bill of Rights are not uncommon.

OTH, liberal, judge made "rights" such as the end result of abortion, a mutilated dead baby or Bruthe and Stevie smooching are nonexistent.

If they were actually exercising true rights, photos would not be problematic.

” the divorce rate of the heterosexual couples would be higher than that of the homosexual couples.”

Spoken like someone who hasn’t witnessed the dynamics of gay relationships much. Or perhaps you have?

Speaking from my experience having gay roommates and going out with them, it’s very rare to see one of these couplings last for more than a few months, much less a year. Perhaps in a small town where there are no other options.

In a larger city, infidelity is the rule rather than the exceptional surprise in gay relationships. I’ve seen it over and over again.

Before seeing the gay community in action, I was more modest in my opposition to gay marriage. Seeing that dynamic in action only solidified it.

I have friends, relatives and neighbors that are gay. Some of their relationships last a long time and others a short time, not unlike my friends, relatives and neighbors that are straight.

“As it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be at the coming of the Son of Man.” In Noah’s day men were so wicked that God was sorry that he even made man, and he destroyed all but Noah and his family. May God have mercy on us!

Perhaps my house in New Orleans at two feet above sea level would be impacted my such an event but my house here in the Texas Hill Country should be safe from such flooding.

Gay marriage sets a precedent for the acceptance of polygamy, incest, pedophilia, etc.

You are on the money with that scenario.

Too often I hear “hate the sin, love the sinner.” That’s a cop-out. The only appropriate answers to homosexuality are social opprobrium and censure supported by strong laws.

Sadly, the disease of “progressivism” that has been undermining everything worthwhile in our society for 75+ years has erased from the books the laws that dealt forcefully with homosexuals, i.e., criminalized their behavior. Hence, is it any wonder that we continue to see a downward spiral in morality in every phase of American life?

Homosexuality is an immoral choice. It is a willful affront to the laws of God and man. When we forget this we strengthen our enemies, internal and in foreign lands.

The bible has only negative things to say about homosexuality, incest, and pedophilia, and yet nothing negative to say about polygamy.. let’s not lump that in with the others. you might want to do some homework.
