A foreign policy expert consulted by presidential hopeful Barack Obama has accused members of the American Jewish establishment of "McCarthyism" in its attitude towards critics of Israel.
Former national security adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski says that the pro-Israel lobby in the US is too powerful, while the slur of anti-Semitism is too readily used whenever its power is called into question.
Presenting a solution for the Middle East, he listed historical compromises that had to be made by Israelis and Palestinians but accused the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) -- the largest and most influential lobby group -- of obstructing peace efforts.
Intimidated
He said: "AIPAC has consistently opposed a two-state solution and a lot of members of Congress have been intimidated and I don't think that's healthy."
He added that other country-specific lobbies, such as the Cuban-Americans, the Armenians and the Irish, had also exerted undue influence in Washington.

Also in the running, it appears, is Zbigniew Brzezinski, who served as President Jimmy Carter’s national security adviser. Years before Baker’s hostile remark about American Jews, Brzezinski, then an adviser to candidate Carter, was reported (by Marvin Kalb) to have said to an Israeli official, “How will you like the idea of working with a new president who owes nothing to the Jews?”
In March 1980, Koch caused a major controversy when he criticized Brzezinski and three other top Carter Mideast advisers as a “Gang of Four” who were trying to turn the U.S. against Israel. (The reference was to a group of Chinese leaders who had been pushed out of power by their rivals.)
During his years in the Carter administration, Brzezinski did indeed push for a tilt against Israel, as he acknowledged later in his memoirs of that period. More recently, he and several colleagues issued a statement urging the U.S. and its allies to engage in “a genuine dialogue” with Hamas. Brzezinski has endorsed Senator Barack Obama for president and reportedly is part of Obama’s circle of foreign policy advisers.

I read the article and found it interesting, but couldn’t find when and where Brzezinski made his “McCarthyite” remark. Is this something new? If so, it’s obviously very newsworthy.

AIPAC is only a small part of US support for Israel. Most Americans supporting Israel never even heard of AIPAC.
Sadly, Obama will get the capo vote.

However, there are less and less of those suicidal fools as time goes on. Many Jews are finally beginning to wake up, and it is way past time. McCain, if he had ANY smarts, would make a strong pro-Israel speech to AIPAC or some other large gathering of influential Jews. It'd win him many votes, and deny both the votes and lots of money to Obomination.
As for Zbig - one would think that the foreign policy disasters that he and his idiot former boss were responsible for would induce some element of shame, resulting in a case of STFU. But I should know better, we're talking about a Leftist arsewhole.
Zbigniew sounds like he’s picked up the signal from Jimmy Carter that everything can now be blamed on the Jews.
