Seeing Evil: The Arms of John McCain
American Spectator ^ | 27 may 08 | Jeffrey Lord

What did Chamberlain do? What is appeasement?

And what happened to John McCain's arms?

One of the little election year mini-dramas making the Internet rounds is of MSNBC's Chris Matthews' insistent questioning of talk show host Kevin James over the issue of appeasement. "What did Chamberlain do?" Matthews asks his Hardball guest repeatedly. Mr. James was unable to answer with historical specifics.

As it happens, I've met Mr. Matthews, spending an afternoon with him several years ago at his MSNBC office in the company of a friend who was interviewing him for a profile in the Financial Times. The article never ran, amazingly enough, because the FT decided an American TV talk show host wasn't of real interest to its readers, something that I admit caused me to laugh out loud.

A number of posters here attack anyone who does not approve of John McCain with the same talking points such as "you are a liberal," "you support Obama," and recommendations of left wing Web sites. If McCain loved his country, he would not push for amnesty and he would not object to barring terrorists and violent criminals from this country. Have you checked his position on our POW's and MIA's? Disgusting, isn't it?

You are the one who is out of line with your false charges that I am trying to get B. Hussein Obama elected. You sound crazy or like a disrupter. McCain is the one who said Hussein would make a good president, not I.

Chamberlain declared war on Nazi Germany, he might have made mistakes before hand but at least he had the balls to stand up to Hitler.

You are peddling false stories about POWs and MIAs and McCain . McCain and many other including my Uncle who was Viet Vet are sick of the scam artists that have been trying to milk money from families with missing love ones. The Uncle gets letters and calls from seeking groups seeking donations for MIA overseas searches BUT there SCAMS.
You are making false charges about McCain being this evil person involved in some grand conspiracy. In fact, McCain is not a great candidate and no ones first choice but he is decent person that loves his country and military. Obama hates this country and its military.

Kevin James looked like an ass. He is not worthy of representing our side.

John McCain will provide national security for America and wage war unceasingly against its enemies. Obama will do exactly the opposite - Obama being a de facto enemy of America as his 20 years with Rev. Wright vividly evidence.

May I remind some of you terminal amnesia sufferers, that John McCain, practially alone at times, was foremost in advocating and supporting the successful Surge in Iraq...

You are disappointed, apocalypto, along with your liberal/leftist friends, that the Surge has succeeded so very well and that our Republican candidate has superlative security credentials.

Your “national security concept” seemingly entails with relish the destruction of America.

Amen. I do not agree with what Sen. McCain on many fundamental issues. However, as long as I have family serving in Iraq, I back him to complete the mission.

This should be a schoolroom required reading. Instead, the kids learn how to wear a condom.

“John McCain will provide national security for America”

Unless you mean actually doing anything here at home about it, like close the border and restrict port access.

You post as if you truly believe that national security is the only important issue in the election. Dammit man, it’s not. Maybe a case could be made that it SHOULD BE, but elections are not won on “should be” are they?

Just like many other John McCain supporters, you resort to spin and false personal attacks. In your weird mind, anyone who does not like McCain is an opponent of the Surge. I have never said a word against the Surge. Never. You accuse me of having leftist friends. Name one.

How can someone who is for amnesty and wants to admit terrorists is concerned with national security?

Hey, you do not have to tell me B. Hussein is bad. He is scary. Criticism of McCain, however, has nothing to do with B. Hussein. It was McCain who said Obama would make a good president, not me.

Chamberlain looked Hitler literally in the eye and was incapable of seeing what Churchill saw without once sitting across from him. Churchill called it an "overpowering hate."

Evil.

Outstanding article.

If you're interested in the dramatization of the events described in this article, I highly recommend the eight episode mini series "Churchill: The Wilderness Years". Now on DVD.

McCain is no Churchill. Not even close. But he does not pretend to be. Instead, he is a man who has seen the face of evil and is likely incapable of viewing it the way in which it always wishes to be seen by the innocent: A Better Life. A Shining Path. A Brighter Future. Peace, Freedom, Bread. The Audacity of Hope.

Everything but the truth: dictates unto death.
