Global warming forces European ski resorts to offer summer sports

European ski resorts are branching into the summer holiday market as the results of global warming hit the slopes. Picturesque Alpine towns are moving into golfing, cycling and cross-country trekking in order to offset losses caused by declining snowfall, as a Swiss study shows snow cover suitable for winter tourism has fallen by 60 per cent in 60 years.

Stephan Lerendu, the director of the Tourist Office at Avoriaz, France, said: "People think snow is a resource that will never run out but it's difficult right now. Tennis courts, saunas and gyms are must-haves. Golf courses are indispensable for ski stations.

"We are adapting ski schools for the summer, with downhill biking and Nordic walking instead. We are creating green, blue, red and black pistes for cycling. It's the future."

You know, I noticed that my left front tire was a bit low this morning.

The cause?

Global warming.

It snowed in Vermont this last weekend and American ski resorts had their best year ever. I guess the “global” part of the problem isn’t so global.

Not only have American ski resorts been doing this for years, but so have Japanese skir resorts. They've also figured out the art of making artificial snow. It is called capitalism-- you know that evil system of doing what has to be done to keep your guests happy rather than just mandating them to be happy.

Since socialism is a zero sum game and capitalism is not, maybe they should just sell their ski resorts to some capitalistic American or Chinese or Indian.

“Global warming forces European ski resorts to offer summer sports”

Really?

Well the LACK OF GLOBAL WARMING caused me to open my swimming pool at the latest date on my meticulous, officially kept records.

Eurosocialist ski resorts versus my red meat American swimming pool:

The evidence is now officially tied at 1-1.

Keep trying, propagandists.

Have you switched over to your summer air yet? Lucky my auto mechanic always gives me a call in the spring (and fall) to remind me to switch over when the temperatures change. (I imagine it is the same with air in bicycle tires - but not sure - I'm not a mechanic). Of course now he is using CO2 reduced air so as not to harm the environment - which of course raises the cost. $10 a tire now!! But - at least I know I'm not driving on tires that might blow out at any minute. Especially with the higher temperatures due to global warming it is better to be safe than sorry.

Yep, the MSM hot air on global warming is jumping the shark. Ski resorts in these parts have always attracted summer sports crowds. And despite record snowfalls last season, summer will indeed come to the Rockies again this year.

The last time I created a green, blue, red and black piste, I saw the doc for a penicillin shot.

I remember when VT ski resorts had to do this one year.

Naturally, that was within a couple of years of setting new records for continuous days below freezing, as well as at or below zero, too.

“There were snow flurries in Flagstaff Arizona last week. Snow in Arizona in mid-may!!!”

We had 12-13” snow in Silverton, CO last week-end. They had to cancel a big Bicycle race out of Durango because of “Snow chain restrictions”.

offset losses caused by declining snowfall, as a Swiss study shows snow cover suitable for winter tourism has fallen by 60 per cent in 60 years.

I bet transatlantic cruise passengers have fallen off over 60 years too.

“It is called capitalism....”

And capitalism (or especially “entrepenural” sp?) is one of the greatest survival tools in the environment. Adapt, change, respond and profit (and survive). One of the reasons why this whole climate change thing shouldn't be given to the governments. I can just see how in 50 years (or 5) after the government has ramped everything up to “combat” warming - the earth starts to cool (naturally due to the sun, not because of anything the gov’t did). Then where will we be?

BTW- the ski resorts in Europe rely a lot on glacier skiing - trekking and/or skiing for miles on end late in the season, etc. So - they have not had to figure the whole “summer sports” thing out. With their glaciers melting they will.

The last time I created a green, blue, red and black piste,

Really? Mine was just yellow. Do you get yellow by mixing green, blue, red and black? I don't remember. Anyway it reminded me of this:

I caught it from Maria
They called it gonorrhea
And it hurt me when I peeah.

Even though you may not have an ethical mechanic he surely does have a good customer, and a very civic minded one, too,
