This is sickening. Barack Obama, on the campaign trail, said his uncle helped liberate Auschwitz. He then said
“Now obviously, something had really affected him deeply, but at that time there just weren’t the kinds of facilities to help somebody work through that kind of pain,” Obama said. “That’s why this idea of making sure that every single veteran, when they are discharged, are screened for post-traumatic stress disorder and given the mental health services that they need – that’s why it’s so important.”
Look, we all know Obama has a problem with Jewish voters and veterans, but trying to use the Holocaust for political gain is sickening -- especially when it is a bold faced lie.
Obama might also want to reflect on Gerald Ford's 1976 declaration about Poland being "independent and autonomous." In addition to his shameless use of the holocaust for political gain, he does not know his history.
Auschwitz is in Poland. It was liberated by the Soviets on January 27, 1945, not by Americans. Obama's uncle was either part of the Red Army or Obama is, again, lying for political advantage. Given what we know already about Obama, either option is plausible, but I'm going with this being another lie.
What's worse is that he is using the freaking Holocaust to both ingratiate himself with Jewish voters and veterans while using the lie to justify expanding a federal program.

Apparently, Obama's campaign has an updated version, which now states that a great-uncle helped liberate another concentration camp.
The "uncle" thing couldn't have been correct for other reasons, since his mother was an only child and his father's family was Kenyan.
Did Obama make that statement during his speech at the synogogue in Boca Raton last week? If so, he's insulting the intelligence of his Jewish audience.

Simple innocent mistake. The reporters misunderstood it for BUCHENWALD when he was talking about the WW2 adventures of his Uncle ART BUCHWALD. Now don’t we all feel silly.

Seems to me it's fair game, he was using his uncles (mom's brother) "experience", I suspect he's lying about his uncle retiring to the attic, to advocate universal ptsd assessment for veterans. So he needs to have his facts straigt, and since his uncle is still living, it would be nice to know the nature of his breakdown. Or if it happened at all. I'm sympathetic to the uncle who didn't need this.
BTW, he told a similar story in 2002, imo suspiciously similar for both to be true. Particularly since his dad enlisted in June, not December 8.
My grandfather signed up for a war the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed, fought in Patton's army. He saw the dead and dying across the fields of Europe; he heard the stories of fellow troops who first entered Auschwitz and Treblinka.
And on Obama's team, they're whacking away at McCain for his military service.
Yeah...like his Memorial Day stump speech in New Mexico, where he saw some of the fallen veterans out in the audience...
Contrast that with President Bush's speech REMEMBERING those who have fallen...or to put it bluntly, are DEAD and BURIED.
It seems someone doesn't know the difference between Memorial Day and Veteran's Day...and it sure as heck isn't the current Commander in Chief.
My maternal grandfather served in the Royal Canadian Navy during WWI. His sub got hit. He was injured; horrid, horrid head and ear aches; so bad he threw a warddrobe out a window one day so intense was his suffering. (He died from his injuries months before my mother's birth.).
And Canadian health care was awful. A number of Canadian WWI vets had the same problem -- getting adequate healthcare. But, my grandfather and all his WWI brothers (literal) fought against socialized healthcare in Canada - the very idea was repugnant to them.
My Great Uncle thought and said it would be Canada's downfall - socialized medicine.
Do I think Barack really cares about Veterans and PTSD? No, Not very much.
Unfortunately, many Americans, in their mostly well-intended enthusiasm to honor veterans, have definitely lost their understanding of the difference between the meaning of Veterans’ Day and Memorial Day.
Given his purpose here, pimpimg for another big program, the haloed one mourns the fact that WWII vets had no programs to help deal with their mental pain. 16 million men served in WWII. A whole lot of them saw and did really violent stuff, of which Dacau or Belsen was probably not the worst. So i suppose they all came home crippled and remained that way due to a lack of the right gov’t program.What did these psychologically crippled vets do? Build the most prosperous and powerful and free nation that ever existed. Confront the evils of communism, begin the struggle to deal with racism. Oh they did raise the whiniest most self centered generation ever. Mine. Hey only God is perfect.
By adding Treblinka to Auschwitz (as you say he did in '02) and implying that both were liberated by American troops, he is compounding the historical error. All the Polish camps were liberated by the Soviets, not the Americans. I, for one, would have preferred that the Americans liberated all the camps, but history is as it is and must not be "revised" for political expediency.
Sure, it will all get washed down the drain with same cleansing agent that all politicians use, "Explain-away"! Wish I owned the patent on it!

Republicans (Dumb and often old): Reagan, Bush, Bush, Quayle, (most likely McCain, once they start on him).
Smart Democrats just misspeak and can correct it. Dumb and old Republicans are dumb for no reason and can’t correct it.
I wouldn’t necessarily think that military service is a necessity for the presidency, but the candidate should know American history well and the role of the American military within that history. Obama doesn’t meet any of these criteria!
According to the US Holocaust Museum, Obama’s uncle’s Infantry Division didn’t just liberate one of the camps that made up Buchenwald. It was the first Nazi concentration camp liberated by US troops in all of Germany.

But is the uncle real or not? He’s supposedly a vet so if he’s real it should be easy to find his military information right?
If he’s real then I guess nobody’s going to care if he got the name of the particular camp wrong, but if he’s not real or didn’t really serve then that’s a BIG deal and could cost him the election!

Most likely, Obama just got the concentration camps confused -- and was too lazy to care. I don't detect any malice, and we'll look foolish trying to make an issue out of this. Like Obama, most Americans sadly don't know the difference between Buchenwald and Auschwitz, and don't care to know.

Anyone who wants to be president of the United States must know history a hell of a lot better than "most Americans", because he is seeking to become the heir to a great constitutional tradition of government that has preceeded him. The oath of office, where the new president pledges - among other things - fidelity to the Constitution, is meaningless if the person taking the oath is ignorant as to what is in the Constitution and what his predecessors have done under it.
Also, there is a difference between addressing a great uncle as "Uncle" in person, as you and I have done, and referring to a great uncle as "uncle" in a political speech to strangers. The former is perfectly acceptable, the latter is fudging.
Frankly, I'm just sick and tired of historical fudging by Democratic candidates for president. It was only the last presidential campaign that John Kerry overplayed - to be polite - his military service in Vietnam, from whence he returned to make up or magnify allegations of atrocities by his comrades in arms. Before that, there was all the Clinton lies about numerous controversial events in his background. And even before that, there was the JFK PT boat story, which portrayed him in a much more positive light than later historians did. A free society can not survive with revisionist historical propaganda spread by its supposed leaders.

I am retired U.S. Army, thus a veteran. Do I believe Osama Obama cares about me and my fellow veterans. Absolutely NO!!! I don't think he gives one tinkers damned about the military. I think he is the second coming of Stalin, Hitler, Ho Chi Min or like person. Someone who wants to RULE, rather than be a leader. I have more leadership in my @$$ hole than Obama has in his entire body. (Sorry about the language ladies, but it is how I feel). If I were on active duty now and Obama became president, I would retire or get out. I would be unable to hold my mouth shut while he was my president, thus commander in chief. I'd get court-martialed for my mouth about him. Thus, I'd have to get out to keep from getting jailed. Hell, I may wind up jailed by them yet. But, at least this way, they have to come and get me. I don't think we'll get to the trial phase if they come, cause I ain't going quietly.
IMO, exposure is what will bring down Liberals who are home-grown enemies of America. IMO, Liberals are as much our enemies as Al Qaeda. Conservatives have got to take back the Republican Party or start a new one. Third parties have never worked so, our only option, is to organize and take back the GOP. I have no answers as to how to accomplish this immense task. We are desperate for strong leadership and the financial backing to expose the truth that the MSM and Liberals are hiding. We need to get our message out by way of radio, newspaper, and TV ads. We need to be powerful enough to pressure the leadership of the GOP so they know their days of destroying our Party are over. Allowing Liberals and RINO’s to destroy America and our children and grandchildren’s futures is not an option.
