When the national political conversation turns to excessive nastiness, will the media remember The Huffington Post? On Bush's last Memorial Day as Commander-in-Chief, Democratic activist Bob Geiger posted an article titled "Dead Troops Remembered by President Who Had Them Killed." Bush is a murderer? Geiger says yes: "Make no mistake about it, George W. Bush is as responsible for the deaths of those men and women as if he himself had fired the bullet or set the IEDs that ended their lives."
What's interesting is that your usual Huffington Post blogger doesn't have anywhere near the same amount of hatred for the people actually shooting our troops and setting the IEDs. Geiger kicks it up a notch to suggest that your usual murderer has more class than the President: "Even a garden-variety murderer would be unlikely to make an appearance when the victim's family is observing the anniversary of a loved one's death."
Geiger began:
Yes, that's a harsh headline for this piece.
But I'll ask you to forgive me because, as a Veteran, there isn't a day on the calendar that causes my hatred -- and I do indeed mean hatred -- of George W. Bush to bubble over the top more than Memorial Day.
On Memorial Day, we honor the heroes who have laid down their lives in the cause of freedom, resolve that they will forever be remembered by a grateful Nation, and pray that our country may always prove worthy of the sacrifices they have made," reads Bush's official Memorial Day proclamation, issued by the White House on Thursday.
The Chickenhawk-in Chief says a lot of things that make this Vet's blood boil but stuff like saying that he prays "...that our country may always prove worthy of the sacrifices they have made" is almost vomit inducing.
This statement comes from the same man who himself began dishonoring the sacrifices of all Veterans in such huge ways in March of 2003, when he invaded Iraq behind a veil of lies and deceit and started spilling barrels of military and civilian blood to start a war with a country that posed no threat whatsoever to our national security. These stirring words of remembrance come from an administration that began with a stolen election in 2000, which goes entirely against what I was taught way back when I was in the U.S. Navy, which was that part of the "way of life" we were protecting was symbolized by the ability of all of our citizens to have their votes counted.
It would make sense that to be a thorough Bush hater, you must believe Bush stole the election before he became that supposed garden-variety murderer with no class. Later in the piece, Geiger expanded on Bush the Murderer:
According to the Defense Department, we have now lost 4,082 men and women in Bush's war of choice in Iraq and we should not allow the man who sent them needlessly to their deaths to lead our nation today in mourning their loss. Make no mistake about it, George W. Bush is as responsible for the deaths of those men and women as if he himself had fired the bullet or set the IEDs that ended their lives.
And before the right-wing hate mail starts flowing in my direct I'll admit that, yes, you are probably right that if Bush said nothing today I might notice that as well. But here's the thing with so many of us Vets: Memorial Day is not an abstraction to us. Too many of us knew personally and can remember the faces of a few whose untimely deaths we mark today. Some of us actually even saw them killed in battle.
So, we do indeed take Memorial Day very personally and I for one would rather that Bush say nothing at all than to issue hypocritical pronouncements and give an insincere, flowery speech in honor of our war dead when he is personally responsible for the most recent we mourn today.
Even a garden-variety murderer would be unlikely to make an appearance when the victim's family is observing the anniversary of a loved one's death.
The least Bush can do is stay in the White House today, keep his lying mouth shut and understand deep in his craven soul that the next day the Congress should declare a national holiday is January 20, 2009, the day he leaves office and his days of dishonoring our war dead are forever done.
In its almost comic nastiness, Geiger's post recalls the old Saturday Night Live fake political ad about the Cuomo Chainsaw Massacre of 1968, showing a chainsaw heading up into a crotch with the voiceover "Mario Cuomo: He's a murderer!"
PS: A fellow Bush-hating blogger approves of Geiger's post and admits the ardor of his ill will toward Bush: "If he was walking across the street and I was driving my car…I just don’t know if he would make it."

Back when this was America, that kind of crap would get someone a visit from the Secret Service.

These people are demented and an infection on the nation.
We lost more troops in Vietnam. Under that reasoning, President Johnson was just as responsible for those deaths.

This sounds like the lefties where I work. I’m sure that they fondle themselves while reading this shiite. The website is where they get their world view.
Methinks that, since I was a mere 4 or 5 years old when Nancy Reagan’s “Just Say No” campaign began, I am as well. :)

Geiger strikes me as the type that’s brave as it gets behind a keyboard.
back when I was in America, open talk about killing a sitting President not only was illegal but it was also a sign that you were stark raving mad and a danger to society and not a celebrity blogger on a website paid for by rich liberal elitists. But then, I’ve not been in the America I remember for a number of years now.
Meanwhile, Barack Obama gets special Secret Service attention just being a mixed race; and Hillary gets castigated because she mentions that a presidential candidate was once assassinated in June; and since Barack is a presidential candidate and it's almost June, the left goes into freak-out mode.
This is a double standard about on par with someone taking public transportation to and from their abortion appointment in order to "save the planet."
May 27 is the day I finally blew my stack. I was sitting in the Social Security Office(yes, I’m THAT old)trying to correct some clerk’s error. Now, as most of you know, government offices have pictures of the President, Vice President and department head on the wall.
Well, this man, not of retirement age, begins to spout off about no WMD’s, no reason for the war, etc. But the statement that set me off - 4000 men died for nothing - was the final straw.
I stood up turned to him and said my son is a Marine and I don’t appreciate that kind of talk. His response was everybody is entitled to their opinion. I replied yes, and keep yours to yourself.
As they left, the wife apologized. The security guard was a retired Marine and he KNEW I an a former Marine.
Stand up and they back dwn!
