Truth or Consequences
The New York Times ^ | 05/28/2008 | Thomas Friedman

Posted on 05/28/2008 5:56:10 AM PDT by WesA

Imagine for a minute, just a minute, that someone running for president was able to actually tell the truth, the real truth, to the American people about what would be the best — I mean really the best — energy policy for the long-term economic health and security of our country. I realize this is a fantasy, but play along with me for a minute. What would this mythical, totally imaginary, truth-telling candidate say?

Why do I suspect that Thomas Friedman’s magical “truth telling” candidate will sound very much like Thomas Friedman?

And will come out for more taxes and more government?

If we cut down on the gas guzzlers, the result will be the same as when Jimmah Carter was president. He told us to conserve electricity. We, as a nation did. We even had a dark, sad Christmas with no outdoor lights. So what happened?

The electric companies raised our rates because they weren’t making enough money. Thanks, Jimmah!

So, if we buy less oil from the Mideast, the price will just go up.

Drill ANWAR, build refineries, drill on the coasts, build atomic energy plants.

But as soon as oil prices started falling in the late 1980s and early 1990s, we let Detroit get us readdicted to gas guzzlers, and the price steadily crept back up to where it is today.

Uh, Tom. Detroit had nothing to do with this. Detroit built the cars people wanted to buy.

My 1981 Plymouth Horizon, while fairly cheap to operate was a nightmare to ride in. Bumpy ride, unstable in high winds and high speeds. I don't desire to drive a motorized shoe box, and no amount of caterwauling ftom the likes of you, Tom, is likely to make that change anytime soon.

Who pays attention to Thomas Friedman?? He's just another NYT barking moonbat. It has gotten to the point where, if a news or editorial piece has a NYT byline, I'm LESS likely to believe that it is true/factual than usual. The NYP pissed away any credibility it had with me YEARS ago.

This loser likes high gas prices and wants them to stay high. If that means imposing additional gas taxes in order to maintain stratospheric prices, so be it.

I bet he has ranted about price gouging or windfall profits in the past. I wonder if he sees the irony.

Barack Obama had the courage to tell voters that the McCain-Clinton summer gas-giveaway plan was a fraud. Wouldn’t it be amazing if he took the next step and put the right plan before the American people? Wouldn’t that just be amazing?

LOL! Friedman writes with crayons.

Even leftist “non-politicians” can’t stand the thought of doing away with taxes! Harm a family member and you harm us all, I guess.

... guarantee people a high price of gasoline — forever.

Friedman also suggests the government should buy all "gas guzzlers" and crush them forcing us all eventually into small electric cars using no gasoline. He would totally negate the market by having government set gas prices with at least a $4.00 minimum.

He is apparently unaware that small electric cars cannot transport goods, that we would still need large trucks. Fuel prices would cause the cost of living to go out of sight. What about public transportation, the liberal panacea for all this? Buses would costs so much to operate that fares and/or taxes would have to go up,

Friedman is suggesting that we create an inflation machine run by the government.

It is obvious that liberals are naive and stupid but it is evil to let them make decisions.

The obvious conclusions escape them. Oil, natural gas, coal and their by-products are plentiful in this country and our technology makes them economical and environmentally safe to find and produce. Produce more, drive what you want, ignore the global warming BS and all problems go away. Too simple I suppose.

“Al-Sistani, who doesn’t want jihad against the Americans for the “time being,” was, some will recall, “nominated” in print by excitable Tom Friedman, always-ready-to-declare-his-latest-enthusiasm Tom Friedman, grand-simplifier Tom Friedman, as a suitable candidate for a Nobel Prize for Peace. That neither latest, nor greatest, of a long succession of friedmanian ludicrous remarks (not too ludicrous apparently for him to continue to ask for, and receive, $45,000 per public appearance, for a collection of shallow plongitudes and endless platitudes, but so eager-beaverly presented, that some may come away complacently thinking that they have actually “learned something”) was mocked here. Al-Sistani’s listing of “najis” (unclean) things at his website — you know, blood, sputum, sperm, feces, Infidels, dogs, that sort of thing — must have gotten to Friedman somehow, for he promptly put a lid on his exploding enthusiasm for Al-Sistani, and we never heard from him again on the matter.”

Current, relevant and much more...here...

Many thanks to Hugh Fitzgerald at jihadwatch.

Yes, that Tom Friedman, of crayola stained fingers fame, now exhibits his “exploding enthusiasm” for Barack. Is a Nobel Prize nomination out of the question?

For the NY Times to talk about "stating the truth in public" is like the Hollywood Madame talking about virginity. The subject is faintly interesting, but the speaker is utterly ignorant about it.

Yes, but he says what the left MSM thinks.

I just can’t get my mind around what is it about SUVs that drive libs mad. Destroy the planet? Do SUVs produce more C02 than small cars and diesels?

Gas guzzlers? So what if we have an adequate supply.

Symbol of conspicuous consumption? I’m sure we could complain about the extravagances in his lifestyle.

Pay the terrorists? Why can’t we drill here then?

If Obambi is dumb enough to be Friedman’s truth teller, good luck winning even the District of Columbia.

Hey, they're barking moonbats---no rationality needed to justify their various hates. Add to the problem that SUV's as a category range from the Toyota RAV4 to the Hummer.
