Dems seek to avoid meltdown

Those people who believe all problems have solutions may be unfamiliar with the inner workings of the Democratic Party.

On Saturday, the party’s Rules and Bylaws Committee will try to solve a big problem, in order to avoid a huge problem in order to prevent a train wreck.

The big problem is what to do about Michigan and Florida, two states stripped last year of their delegates to the Democratic National Convention because both broke party rules and moved their primaries up too early in the election year.

The rules committee will try to work out a compromise Saturday to try to seat those states in some form or fashion. It will be difficult, and the 30 members of the committee, who come from all over the nation, have been warned to keep their hotel rooms Saturday night, because the meeting may go into Sunday.

The huge problem is what happens if one side or another does not like the rules committee’s compromise. In that case, the controversy would go to the 186-member Credentials Committee, which will convene in July or August.

And if that happens, the party will be presented with a possible train wreck: Whatever the Credentials Committee decides will have to be voted on by the Convention in late August as its first order of business. And this could create what the media might love but the party dreads: a floor fight in Denver.

True enough. It's not too late to make the big bucks with a "torches and pitchforks" concession, though! :-)

This could be a big train wreck. I remember somebody a few months ago had said the best train wreck would be to have Obama ahead of Hillary by 100 or 200 delegates, but neither with a majority. Depending on what the committee meeting decides Saturday, Obama may still be out of reach of the magic number to clinch the nomination after the final primaries on June 3rd. This could be interesting..........

And given the personalities and mannerisms of the Clintons, unless somehow Obama can clinch the nomination after June 3rd voting, taking into account whatever they decide with Mich. and Florida, I would expect the Clintons will want to take it all the way to the convention.

I think the Clintons will try to pull something to get the nomination awarded to the “Hildebeast”.

Leftist utopian systems are predestined to meltdown. Just look at what history teaches us (except in public schools, of course).

I read in a different article that a proposal exists to seat half of each state's delegation (don't ask me to explain the logic of THAT).

I don't know if they would seat the Clinton half, or the O'bama half.

The Republicans punished their delegates by seating half and the dems would be wise to follow suit and do the same. That they haven’t figured it out up until now tells you that it really is about party politics and they don’t give a RIP about the voters. Republicans COULD HAVE been using this a a means to harvest new voters, but NOOOOO, we have imcompetents running the party ourselves and they stand by with their hands in their pants and do nothing.

If Clinton wins big in Puerto Rico, the DMC has a problem. She is fighting for a power position in the party. Don’t think she will settle for the Kennedy route. My guess is that Ted was relieved not to venture the role of President, knowing he would be measured against the Myth of Camelot. Hillary. on the other hand, has no doubts.

The elites in the national party had a dispute with the elites in the Mi and Fl state parties. I don’t know the details of their solution to their self made problem but I do know that the rank and file democrats in Mi and Fl will be screwed and the elites in Mi, Fl, and national will all keep their jobs.

The Republicans punished their delegates by seating half

Apparently I missed something. Care to elaborate?

The RNC also punished Florida and Michigan for moving up their primaries. However, they didn't disqualify the states outright, they cut their delegate count by 50%, but still held the elections.
