Clinton Letter to Superdelegates
realclearpolitics.com ^ | 0528/2008 | Hillary Clinton

Posted on 05/28/2008 12:44:21 PM PDT by WesA

(Note: the following is the text of a letter sent by Hillary Clinton yesterday to all Democratic super delegates.)

Dear ___________,

The stakes in this election are so high: with two wars abroad, our economy in crisis here at home, and so many families struggling across America, the need for new leadership has never been greater.

At this point, we do not yet have a nominee - and when the last votes are cast on June 3, neither Senator Obama nor I will have secured the nomination. It will be up to automatic delegates like you to help choose our party's nominee, and I would like to tell you why I believe I am the stronger candidate against Senator McCain and would be the best President and Commander in Chief.

In the Democratic Party some votes count more than others!

These delegates get to vote twice, one on election day and again in super-secret back-room deal-makings at their convention.

What a partay!

It’s not over until the court rules on their law suit in FL. It would be real fun if the Supremes ended up determining if the FL votes count. Have the whole thing haning beyond the convention..

There is something to be said for a political party wanting some veto over primaries.

If we had their system, maybe we could have had a real conservative over the phony McCain.

Q. If it’s all so automatic for BHO, then why don’t the automatic delegates (superdelegates) all line up, speak with one voice, and tell HRC, BHO, the Dem party and the whole country it’s over?

A. It’s not so automatic. It’s not over.

So, Hillary, what is the history of unexplained deaths and serious injuries to Democratic Party delegats and their family members? She's not suggesting anything... just saying anything could happen.

Definitely unbelievable, but read closely and it’s obvious she is only being selfless. This for the little 90 year old women who want to live long enough to see a woman in the WH, for working families, the downtrodden, the children, etc. She’s willing to fall on the sword for Obama and her country. What a woman!

This letter quite frankly, makes me sick. I can’t imagine any viable, respectable candidate ever ever doing such a thing. Well, take that back, I can imagine a John Kerry or Al Gore putting a letter like this out, but I could never imagine Reagan, Truman, IKE, JFK, Nixon, in short any one with some understanding of the office to send out a letter like this.

When you say she’s being “self-less” I think you’re being sarcastic. This is ALL about her and nothing about what is best for the country.

I’m betting that she continues on past June 3. I’m betting that she files some injunction against the democratic party regarding the FL and MICH delegation.

I don’t know who is the more dangerous, her or Obama.

Behold the gift that the Left has given the Sheep: they have successfully separated a campaign from the overall war.

As if the Normandy landings on D-Day were something totally irrelevant to WW2. After all, Germany never attacked us...

From the letter at the link:

In addition, when the primaries are finished, I expect to lead in the popular vote and in delegates earned through primaries.

I wonder how that is? Even if it's unanimous in PR and the other remaining primaries, I don't see how that's possible.

But at this point, neither of us has crossed the finish line. I hope that in the time remaining, you will think hard about which candidate has the best chance to lead our party to victory in November. I hope you will consider the results of the recent primaries and what they tell us about the mindset of voters in the key battleground states. I hope you will think about the broad and winning coalition of voters I have built. And most important, I hope you will think about who is ready to stand on that stage with Senator McCain

So when Obama becomes the nominee, how can she support him? How will she tell people "I was the best candidate but vote Obama."?

Hillary to Bill Richardson "He can't win Bill. He just can't win."

She can have popular vote lead if (forget Florida) she counts a state in which, per the rules agreed to, Obama did not even appear on the ballot. Michigan.

That particular claim is absurd. If he’d been on that ballot, he’d hold the popular vote lead even counting Michigan, in which she would probably win (but not with him at 0 votes).

Superdelegates are a very good idea, and I wish the GOP had them.

It is absurd that I could register as a Democrat on the morning of the NH primary, vote for Obama, and six minutes later reregister as an independent. Do you seriously think that my vote should count the same as the elected governor of the state?

In an open election with a final outcome, sure, every vote should be equal.

But these nominating contests have the purpose of choosing the most electable (most likely to win) candidate.

It seems totally reasonable that people who have demonstrated practical knowledge about winning elections should have more say in the process than us idiots, especially us idiots who aren't even real Democrats (or Republicans).

By the same logic, then those who have demonstrated practical knowledge about winning elections can dictate to you and me how to live our daily lifes, how much food & fuel we are allowed, how much carbon-tax we owe.

...and on and on.

Surely you jest.

You are right. Several voters living in Florida said they didn't even vote because they thought it wouldn't count for anything. Had it been a "real" primary, the outcome may have been very different, or Obama would have gained some votes to go toward the delegates. She is such a conniving, evil, woman.

How does that follow?

It's true that elected officials make the laws, but that's the system.

My question is, do you think my vote and Jeanne Shaheen's (former Governor, Senate candidate) vote IN THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY should count the same?

Yes, I do.

Why vote at all in Nov. Jim? Just let all the 'more knowledgeable" Americans select the country's next President.

Why in the world would you believe your vote is not as important as your neighbors just because they are an elected official?

You can bet your last dollar both primary processes will be dramatically changed before the next presidential elections.

Is seems that you would like to see Super-delegates in the Republican Primary, who are smarter and "Know how to win elections" deciding our next candidate.
