BERLIN, May 28 (UPI) -- Israel and Hezbollah are nearing a prisoner-swap deal brokered by Germany, according to a report. The online version of German newsmagazine Der Spiegel said Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser, two Israeli soldiers kidnapped by Hezbollah in 2006, would be exchanged for five Lebanese terrorists held in Israeli prisons.
Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah himself indicated that the report was true. In a speech released Tuesday, he said one of the Lebanese prisoners, Samir Quntar, would "soon be among us."
The deal was brokered by a German spy who enjoys great respect from both parties; the man, identified by Der Spiegel only as Gerhard C., is a seasoned Middle East expert working for Germany's Federal Intelligence Service.
C. has also been part of a team of German intelligence officials that brokered a massive prisoner swap between Israel and Hezbollah in 2004, when 435 Lebanese and Palestinians were released in exchange for an Israeli businessman and the remains of three Israeli soldiers.
It remains unsure, however, whether Regev and Goldwasser are still alive; Israeli authorities noted blood at the scene of the kidnapping, which sparked Israel's 33-day war with Lebanon in the summer of 2006.

Bet on seeing something similar this time. But put tracking devices up their (%@ this time and when Nasrallah greets them, send a Predator drone as a welcome home gift.
Why use a predator? You know how the muzzies like large media-attracting crowds at these funerals. They should have a proper airstrike using F-15Is and F-16Is. Why pass up a golden opportunity?
If Israel’s going to release Samir Kuntar,that’s a clear sign that the Knesset’s entered la-la land.
Israel follows the Obama negotiation strategy.
What about Shalit?
Shalit is being held by the Palestinians.
I’m not as good a person as many who work in the Israeli government. I would be considering releasing their prisoners but only after infecting them with fatal diseases so that our side didn’t get blamed for their sudden deaths. The Israelis tried this once with a prior Hamas godfather but they got caught and had to give him an antidote. I would just be looking for better delivery methods.
Just like at Gitmo, anybody who is released is essentially a form of reloading for the terrorists who will put the newly free prisoner right back into the fray. And any Israeli citizens who die from an attack by a released prisoner will be on the conscious of the Israeli PM who cut the deal.
