'Legal Weed' is just beer, but Feds want to cap sales

WEED, Calif. â This town is in a tempest over a bottle top.
The federal government is telling the owner of a small brewery here that the pun he's placed on caps of his Weed Ales crosses a line.
The U.S. Treasury Department's Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau says those three little words allude to marijuana use.

"On the bottle caps in question, "Try Legal Weed" is surrounded by the slogan "A Friend in Weed Is a Friend Indeed." To Dillmann's supporters, that spells civic boosterism, not drug pushing.
The bottle-top slogan of a brewer with a head for business in Weed, Calif., draws a warning from U.S. drug watchdogs. All he's pushing is a respectable local enterprise, backers say."

The Feds are saving us from falling into a life of drug-addled debauchery just by reading a bottle cap.

Sounds like another federal agency in dire need of a deadwoodectomy to me.

There are way too many "law enforcement" officers.
This is an example of the thought police in action.

The U.S. Treasury Department's Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau says those three little words allude to marijuana use. The rump of the BATF that's left in treasury.
Comforting, (NOT!) to know they have the same jack booted thug mentality as their former brethren in BATFE over in Justice.
My answer would be "show me the law" and "show me the regulation" (only regulations in effect when the named their brew count). If they can't, the court's will not be amused. Can you say "violation of the first amendment", among other parts of the Constitution? I know you can.

Hey, this is the INSANITY brought about by ALL of the supporters of the so-called War on Drugs.
Each and every one of them bears a SMALL degree of responsibility for this, whether they know it or not.
Instead of supporting the 10th Amendment of the US Constitution, they insist the Federal Goverment has some legitimate role in the enforcement of drug laws in the Interior US. They even support the idea that the Federal laws against pot supercede state laws.
Silly and malicious do-gooders, each and every one. Thjey have created a monster and are toooo stupid to see it.

That our government is concerned with something so petty and silly,
or the high likelihood that several Freepers will applaud this nannyism.

I was searching for any updates to this story (None that I could find, BTW.) and ran across what has to be the funniest comment on our government's glorious actions.
This comes from Eugene Volokh at The Volokh Conspiracy. In response to Federal claims that the beer's name could "mislead consumers about the characteristics of the alcoholic beverage" Volokh writes: "What next, going after Fat Weasel Ale on the grounds that the beer actually doesn't contain any fat weasels?".

“This country has gone insane.” Obviously. People are loopy. When children are suspended from school for a drawing of a gun and the people that did it aren't fired immediately like the people who are harassing this man should be, then you know that the generation in charge of this country is certifiably insane. All baby boomer's don't suck, but the majority of them do. They are the same type of people who would gas Jews if they were told it was politically correct. No capacity for independent thought and no moral compass. They are stupid amoral cows who simply moo and go along with the herd.
