Wright still does Obama wrong
The Washington Times ^ | 5-28-08 | Michael Barone

As Barack Obama makes his slow but steady way toward the Democratic nomination, the assumption in the admiring precincts of the press corps is that voters have dismissed as irrelevant his longtime association with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

But that may prove as mistaken as the assumption, back in 1988, that voters would not be impressed by Michael Dukakis' 11-year support of a law granting weekend furloughs to convicts sentenced to life without parole, an issue brought up in the primaries by Al Gore but largely ignored in press coverage at the time.

Evidence for this comes in the exit polls from the West Virginia and Kentucky primaries on May 13 and 20. In both, about half the voters - and these are voters in the Democratic primary - said they believe Mr. Obama shares Mr. Wright's views either somewhat or a lot. And slightly under 50 percent of these voters said Mr. Obama is honest and trustworthy.

To be sure, these were primaries in which Mr. Obama was beaten, and beaten badly, by Hillary Clinton - 67 percent to 26 percent in West Virginia, 66 percent to 30 percent in Kentucky. So they would be inclined, one might believe, to think ill of Mr. Obama.

Most reporters are liberals, whose circles of friends and acquaintances have included people with views not dissimilar to those of Mr. Wright or William Ayers, the unrepentant Weather Underground bomber with whom Mr. Obama served on a nonprofit board and at whose house his state Senate candidacy was launched.

Such reporters don't find these views utterly repugnant or particularly noteworthy. But most American voters do. And they wonder whether a candidate who associates with such people agrees with them - or disbelieve him when he says he doesn't.

I've watched in my long life whites becomeing more and more less racist over the years and blacks becoming more and more racist... Strange situation..

Jeremiah Wright is a minuscule tip of a black iceberg.. with very little black intelligencia to come against the black racism not only as wrong but stupid... There is some BUT ONLY whites read them..

This is strange since Jerry Wright is as WHITE AS I AM.. tintually speaking.. Blacks for the most part are being PimPed AND are loving it.. The poor Jews are despised by the democrat party BUT are abeoltely loyal to it.. A DEATH WISH?... probably..

As a white guy who immigrated to this great country in 1952 and whose Irish and Polish Jew ancestors never owned slaves, in fact were enslaved and indentured, I don't feel like I owe anybody anything other than a fair shot at my friendship and business. When Obama started his national campaign I was interested and thought he might be a good candidate to unite us all and get over the affirmative preference issue. But listening to Wright made me rethink that, in fact I can't see the O man not giving preferences to blacks and sticking it us good ol’ white boys. Why the heck would I want to support that?

They've told the lie so often that they have become blinded to the possibility that someone might feel otherwise. Like another poster, I was willing to give him Obama a chance until he defended Rev. Wright and tried to convince us that he didn't subscribe to anything his spritual advisor and menotr of twenty years preached. That simply stretched his credibility with me too thin.

I have no sympathy for Obama at all. He used Wright and Wright’s “church” to launch his political career. And then he attempted to feed the public the lying BS that he didn’t know what Wright was doing there. Let Obama live with the consequences.

The spin I keep waiting for is the one where the media tries to convince us that people who let the Rev. Wright issue influence their decision are themselves the racists. It would be like trying to tell black people that they have to vote for David Duke in order to prove that they aren’t racist. Just wait, that particular spin won’t be long in coming if this issue continues to smolder.

Wright and Michael Pfleger are two lamentable examples of what happens when left wingers take over a church. Left-wing political philosophy is not religion, no matter how the leftists rationalize it.
