Rumor: McCain Considering Sarah Palin for Vice President
Stop the ACLU ^ | 29-May-08 | Unknown

Posted on 05/29/2008 12:19:57 PM PDT by Jay777

The rumor is a big possibility she's being looked at.

A tipster sent us word that John McCain’s VP advance man Arthur Culvahouse has been spotted in Juneau, Alaska. There’s only one reason he would be there - to meet with Alaska Governor Sarah Palin about the Vice President position.

This comes on the heels of McCain’s Memorial Day weekend barbecue attended by Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, former White House budget director Rob Portman, and Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman. Supposedly that was in informal affair, not a vetting session, but it appears that the VP selection game is very much afoot

This would be a very interesting choice. Thomas Cheplick at the American Spectator makes the case that she is the only choice that could balance out the ticket and win against Obama.

Mrs. Palin is one of conservatism’s own, and would be the first female vice president. She’s young being only 44 (two years behind Senator Obama), she is wildly known to despise government corruption. She defeated a horribly entrenched and corrupt Republican political machine in Alaska. She has a son in the U.S. military. She’s strongly pro-life, belonging, in fact, to Feminists for Life.

Sad that hating gov’t corruption is what gives one an advantage. lol

Excellent. Go for it John!

I think Patricia Heaton belongs to Feminists for Life. I guess the idea is that you can support equal rights for women and also be "anti-choice." It's stupid kowtowing to political correctness, but there it is.

At this point I do not care who McCain picks I am not voting McCain.

He is a devout Socialist in most of what he believes.

I am sick of all three, but Mccain has betrayed his country with his amnesty plan, his assult on free speech, and his global warming crap.

He is on the left, let them vote for him.

I think he is waiting for Clinton to drop out so he can pick her.

If she is smart she will turn it down, and I believe she is smart.

I'm not sure what your reasoning is for that, but mine is that she's a young woman and a young mom and being a parent trumps being VP at this time. I can't imagine being 3 or 4 and having a mom - at the time - who is busy being Vice President of the United States.

Yeah, but could she actually be capable of serving as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces in the midst of GWOT should ol' Queeg actually get elected and then swallow the anchor at some point in his administration?

Look at it this way, I fully believe McCain is leaning toward only serving one term. If he picks a staunch conservative as VP he is setting up 2012.

VP choices are usually overrated, but this one has a bit more importance for a couple of reasons.

I am not miserable but I am angry.

McCain thinks by putting a conservative on the ticket it will make it alright and we will vote for him.

Is she pro-global warming? He is.
Is she pro-no drilling in ANWR? (hell no) he is.
Is she pro-amnesty? He is.

First because the GOP needs new faces, figuratively and literally, and as faces go you can scarcely do better than hers right now (figuratively and literally). Read Fred Barnes’s profile of her from last summer: She’s excellent on ethics, has experience with energy policy, and maintains balance on the environment, opposing the polar bear ruling but calling for reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. Second, obviously, having her on the ticket would steal some of Obama’s media juice as the candidate with the Narrative versus the same old patrician Republican crap.

I can't imagine being 3 or 4 and having a mom - at the time - who is busy being Vice President of the United States.

Plus, didn't Palin just have a baby a few weeks ago that has Down's Syndrome? I just don't see how she can be both a VP candidate (and ALL that THAT entails) and a mom with several young children to care for.

April 22, 2008:

As many as 80 percent of unborn children diagnosed with Down syndrome become victims of abortion, but Alaska Gov, Sarah Palin didn’t let her child become a statistic. Palin, who has deeply-felt pro-life views, gave birth to her fifth child this week and the baby was diagnosed with the condition...

“We knew through early testing he would face special challenges, and we feel privileged that God would entrust us with this gift and allow us unspeakable joy as he entered our lives,” she said.

‘We have faith that every baby is created for good purpose and has potential to make this world a better place. We are truly blessed,” the 44 year-old governor added.

I would think that being VP would be easier for her than being a governor, so maybe she'd be inclined to take it.

McCain is a one termer regardless, and I think in spite of what some say about the man, he knows this going in.

Even if he is in good health in 2012, the reality is that it is highly unlikely that what he does in the White House will not tick off enough people to make a venerable run for a second term unrealistic.

Not because what he does will be inately wrong or bad, but that doing what’s right, often is doing what’s not popular, and McCain does not strike me over his career as the guy who’s just going to do what’s popular.

The problem with this choice though, is I thought she announced she was pregnant? Tought to be the VP candidate and on the go like that while in late pregnancy, I would think.

Sarah Palin is a strong conservative. Possibly the most conservative governor in the US. She’s our version of Margaret Thatcher and more.

Since McCain could not possibly complete 8 years as POTUS, I would be thrilled to have a strong conservative governor as VP. It would give her time to gain the necessary experience before becoming POTUS. Secondly, every angry, anti-Obama, Hillary supporter would HAVE to give Palin some serious consideration.

If Palin is VP, I’d go from my present luke warm on McCain to outright pleased.

I agree with you...McCain is a bad choice for conservatives. What I am going to do is vote for him in hopes that the Supreme Court will have more strict constructionists. With Obama there is zero chance of that. On global warming, amnesty, etc...yeah...we’re screwed with any of the nominees.
