A review of 'Firefight: Inside the Battle to Save the Pentagon on 9/11'
9/11 Families for America.org ^ | Tim Sumner

Posted on 06/02/2008 11:32:46 AM PDT by Sergeant Tim

At 9:37 a.m., on 9/11, those aboard Arlington Fire Department Engine 101 were headed north on I-395 for a training session near the Pentagon. Firefighter Jamie Lewis saw the American Airlines Flight 77 first. “Hey, look at the plane!” he shouted. “What’s he doing?” Nearby, on the Columbia Pike, Paramedic Claude Conde was loading a stroke victim into an ambulance when a plane roared overhead. “He had never seen a plane so close. Something wasn’t right. The airport wasn’t far away, but the plane was already at treetop level, well below the glide path it should be on for National Airport.” On a routine watch at the Pentagon’s helipad, Firefighter Mark Skipper was standing in front of Foam 161 when the firefighter he was talking with, Alan Wallace, “…noticed some movement out of the corner of his eye … The plane was heading straight towards them … a few feet off the ground … ‘Run!’ Wallace screamed.”

In Firefight: Inside the Battle to Save the Pentagon on 9/11, authors Patrick Creed and Rick Newman slam you awake as to what happened there that day.

Gee... and all those grassy knollers say that no airplane hit the Pentagon.

It remains my opinion the the primary target of this plane was the White House and the secondary was the Pentagon. But I do not mean to diminish the heroism of the responders, which was extraordinary.

This is one of the planes the Truthers deny existed that morning.

Mass hysteria probably (haha)

Anyone who says that the attack on 911 did not happen is a wackjob and needs to be dismissed outright as mentally ill.

There’s a definite correlation between 9-11 Truthers and Ron Paul supporters.

It’s not an exclusive correlation - but if you were to ask many of these nutjobs who they are backing for President - a fair share would say they are Paultards.

Another of the dozens of delusional people who mistook a cruise missile for a Boeing 757. What sillies, huh?

The other day I thought I saw a speeding tractor trailer but my friend told me it was really fast bicycle.

I’m glad to see this book come out. There is a lot of focus on the Twin Towers, I guess because there are actual videos of the planes going into the towers, but it almost seems like the Pentagon, while I won’t say it’s been forgotten, seems to take a back seat to the WTC, and the victims of that event in Washington should not be overlooked.

What difference does it make if it was a cruise missile or an airplane? Both have destructive force when lobbed or crashed into a building. Because there were at least 3 other planes that day that either were deliberately crashed into, or were on a mission to crash into, buildings why would then a cruise missile be sent into the Pentagon? Either way, the building was heavily damaged and many lives were lost. These truthers get caught up in their own minutia and don’t make any sense.

The same goes for this Building 7 theory. What would have been the motive to take down a lesser building standing right next to the Twin Towers many hours after the planes hit? It makes just as much sense that the force of two gigantic skyscrapers crashing to earth would weaken another nearby building and it, too, would collapse.

Must have been the same explosives that took out the levees in New Orleans.

I think some of the truthers claim the planes were really radio controlled, by some nefarious entity like the neocon conspiracy, or Bush-Cheney-Halliburton, or whoever.

Supposedly the 4th plane (the one that crashed in Shanksville, PA) was targeted for either the White House or the Capitol.

The authors stay well clear of speculation about the jihadists aboard Flight 93 as to their target.

Yet I did not know before reading the book that firefighters were twice ordered to evacuate, once when word of Flight 93 was inbound came through and a little later when air traffic controllers lost track of a military flight. Those were among the most gripping passages - how the folks who could and could not evacuate reacted - in the book. The pucker factor was very high.

Thanks for the ping Tim.

The terrorists who flew the plane into the Pentagon were living around 6 miles from me here in San Diego and were
in the 2000 phone book here.

Thanks to the Clintoon scum who wern’t keeping track of terrorists in the U.S. they can also be heald responsible for 9/11

IMHO, the Shanksville plane was headed for the Capitol. The Capitol is hugely visible down the Mall on the approach to Reagan National, but the Pentagon plane ignored it for the Pentagon.

My reasoning about the Pentagon plane targeting the White House is that it flew down the Mall and came back around to the Pentagon rather than heading straight into the Pentagon, which would have hit near the main entrance.

If you've ever taken that approach to Reagan National down the Mall, it's really hard to spot the White House. It's off the Mall, surprisingly small, and surrounded by trees. So, my theory is the terrorists missed the White House and circled around to hit the Pentagon instead. If so, that would mean the two Washington planes were originally targeting the White House and Capitol. As awful as 9-11 was, it could have been even worse.

The truthers are one of the biggest arguments I've seen so far for electro-shock therapy.

It's difficult to grasp the enormity of the ignorance that they so proudly put on display. How anyone can argue that it wasn't a plane that went into the Pentagon is beyond me.

All the fluoridated water the moonbats drank, while lying in the desert sun atop a grassy knoll waiting for the hatchlings to emerge from their Area 51 pods, might explain it.

“As awful as 9-11 was, it could have been even worse.”

I sincerely believe God was watching over us that terrible day. (”Well, then why did ANYONE die?”) Regardless of that age-old question, I was amazed when it turned out relatively few people in the Trade Towers died. First day of school so lots of people were late getting to work (dropping off their kids, etc.), the first tower got hit high, allowing the second tower to be evacuated before it got hit. And, the first tower to get hit falling last so more time for the floors below the flames to be evacuated.

And of course it wasn’t just “miracles”. It was physics, ineptitude of the hijackers, fast response of the FAA (how many other planes were involved?), heroism of the Shanksville passengers, the firefighters, and ordinary folks.

Another great read was called something like “101 Minutes”. A very detailed account of what was going on inside the Trade Towers based on radio messages, eywitnesses, etc.

how many other planes were involved?

That is an awfully good question that has never really been answered, to my knowledge. I've seen some persuasive evidence there was at least one more.

I also think the French documentary is essential viewing, even though it makes me sick to watch those brave firefighters disappear into the stairwells, knowing many will not be seen again.

I also agree there were some miracles that day that limited the damage done, although that seems to have been interpreted by many to mean we can go back to the head in the sand approach of pretending they don't really want to kill us.

I think the succesful manner in which we have been taking it to the terrorists has gone a long way in not having any more serious attacks on the U.S. Some shootings (Utah mall) and some vehicle vs. pedestrian attacks may have been motivated by Islamic hate - but not a coordinated or serious effort.

But - the lack of terrorist attacks is what I fear will make our new leaders complacent.

That certainly seems the case for the Dhimmicrats, who have returned to their 1970's/80's groove of isolationism and pacifism. McCain seems to get this one.

Keeping Osama and party bottled up in Northwest Frontier seems seriously to have degraded A.Q. The left won't admit it, but Iraq has damaged A.Q. hugely. The spectacle of A.Q. killing their own, especially Sunnis, in Jordan and Iraq (and Lebanon) has really damaged them throughout the Muslim world, not to mention they've now been defeated on two battlefields.

My name is Tom McQuade, and my late friend Chris DeWolf was with a film crew from Fire & Emergency Training Network (FETN)that morning having been working on a segment with the Arlington County Fire Department. Chris, his cameraman, producer, and sound man all went to the crash site at the Pentagon where along with their Liason Officer from the ACFD they met with DoD and Fire Command staff and were granted exclusie access inside the fire lines, into the building, and were able to document the fire fight, the search and rescue for survivors, and the wreckage of the aircraft itself. I have seen this raw footage as Chris had a copy of it after making a copy on-site for the investigators. to the conspiracy theorists I say this...sorry but I saw the twisted wreckage in that footage with my own eyes, so try again.

As I think you can tell from my review, there was never any doubt in my mind who attacked our nation, murdered my brother-in-law at the WTC, murdered my friend at the Pentagon, and murdered 3,000 on 9/11.
