The FBI (web) and Carter County Sheriff's Department are investigating a claim by a black Ardmore man who says a group of men tried to lynch him in southern Oklahoma. The man's name hasn't been released.
Deputies say he told them he was traveling to Milo in northwestern Carter County on May 25th when he stopped to help a farmer round up stray cattle from the road.
He says as helped move the cattle four white men appeared and accused him of stealing the and began trying to lynch him.
The man says another man then drove up in a pickup truck and fired shots into the air and the four attackers left.
Carter County Sheriff Ken Grace says he takes the allegations very seriously and is trying to find the farmer and the driver of the pickup who fired into the air.
Grace says the victim didn't report the incident until May 28th when her told deputies he saw one of the attackers at a Wal-Mart in Ardmore.
Would be interesting to see if the rancher or the other witness could confirm.
So the farmer can’t be found? Interesting....
I may be wrong but...they aren’t going to find any farmer.
I’m calling BS on this...
Well, if it DID happen, let’s hope the good guys in this story come forward.
If this is true, the would-be lynchers should be tried for assault and maybe attempted murder.
You can’t treat people like that and expect to get away with it.
Always a Low Price.
If anybody else hears about them, they sometimes spiral out of control.
I bet he wishes he'd just told the wife he ran out of gas . . ..
Hmmmmmmm. Blacks and their obsession with the hugely overblown historical legacy of lynching.
I’m of European ancestry so of course I have this inordinate fear of being impaled on a pike or hacked to pieces with a sword.
Same exact line of thinking.
Probably fell asleep during a rerun of Rawhide.
Somethin’ sounds strange here. You don’t report an attempted lynching until you see one of the guys in Walmart? Huh?
Much fishy. Did this black man happen to have a cattle trailer? Otherwise, he wasn’t stealing anyone’s cattle.
Did the black man call the rancher a ‘farmer’ as written here? If so, then it might’ve been the rancher who tried to lynch him (justifiably so!) =)
If the ‘victim’ was trying to help someone put cattle back in, he probably caused more trouble than help....not his fault....but the rancher may have -wanted- to shoot him!
“Im of European ancestry so of course I have this inordinate fear of being impaled on a pike or hacked to pieces with a sword.”
I’d far far rather be lynched than impaled. The whole hacking thing wouldn’t be too pleasant either. The whole word impaled fails to convey the true barbarity of the act.
But if given the choice I’d rather spend a day on the beach with my family.
I instantly disbelieve this story. At least one of the following three elements is false:
1. An innocent black man “just happened” to be driving by when he offered to help a farmer round up cattle.
2. A bunch of good ol’ boys show up and accuse him of stealing the cattle when the man was just trying to help.
3. Said boys plan to hang innocent black man for “rustling”
There’s no way all three of those are true, and I have $100 says so. Just come to my house. You know, the one on the corner next to the tree.
Driver of the pickup has a gun and likely a cell phone. Can't believe he wouldn't hold them and then contact the sheriff. I call B.S. on this one.
The rest of the story, which I read earlier was, the man was lying about the lynch attempt and ran into a clothesline while running from his wife. The wife has verified this.
We all know how cattle rustlers lie, but ... he does have a really great imagination.
Does anyone really believe this guys story?
He’s probably just trying to meet Jesse or Al.
I could believe the first part, that some cows were out and he stopped to help. Perhaps the guy he was helping was actually stealing? Perhaps he and the ‘farmer” were working together?
More likely the whole thing was made up after a few beers.
Just in time for the Quadrennial Dragging Death anti-Republican ad.
Here’s the link to “the rest of the story”

Well, I was CLOSE (see post 9). At least I twigged to the involvement of the angry wife!
So far I have read alot of snide remarks doubting this could have happened. There still are a few communities in this country that havn’t quite caught up with the rest of the country on racial issues. I can see how this could have happened, I have known men that could and would do this sort of thing and they were not a bunch of skinheads either. Redneck bigot might fit better but they do exist. I would take the guys story serious , even if it was shown that he was actualy trying to rustle cattle, that may have been the reason for the delay in reporting also.
Oh yes, much fishy!
But Ive been on many threads where we jump the gun and arrive at conclusions not supported by the meager facts presented in a poorly-written article.
So I’m being careful to stick to the presented facts (besides, in this case it’s much more fun that way).
Hey, to wildly speculate, maybe his wife noticed rope burns from his weekly autoerotic strangulations, and he had to cover? I can explain everything, there were these cattle on the road,
Let me get this straight. He was just walking/driving through farm country on Route 53 in Oklahoma near the town of Milo when he stopped to help a farmer round up stray cattle.
I am not from Oklahoma. How likely is it that someone either on foot or driving is going to stop and help a farmer with his cattle?
I would not attempt to do such a thing but that is because I am from the Northeast and not familiar with things in that part of the country.
Anybody else think this a peculiar story?
*snif* *snif* smells like... bullshit!
I find it hard to believe the guy in the pickup wouldn’t have called the cops or hung around until he was sure the black guy was safe.
.........and Honey, THAT’s why I didn’t come home last night and never called. The attackers also rubbed lipstick on my collar. Cross my heart.
“How likely is it that someone either on foot or driving is going to stop and help a farmer with his cattle?”
If I’m driving along and see someone who clearly needs help, I’d stop.
I stopped for a riderless horse standing beside the road, with a horseless rider walking down toward us, and kept the horse company (and safe) until rider and horse had a reunion.
Last week, the man whose name was not immediately available, called the sheriff and said a group of men tried to hang him in rural Carter County after he stopped to help an elderly farmer round up straying cattle. Grace said deputies and FBI agents investigated the case, and the man told officers that he made up the false claim.
Who is the real bigot here ?
I think that's what is important is that this could have happened.
</sarcasm>
Yes I read that also as I got further down the page and if you read my remarks I said I can see how it could have happened and I still stand behind that statement. As I stated earlier, I have known people capable of doing this sort of thing, glad it didn’t happen here.
Do folks from Oklahoma try to russle cattle alone while walking along the road or driving a car?
I will grant you that the world is filled with people trying to do wicked things to each other.
I need some more facts before deciding to take this story seriously.
“I stopped for a riderless horse standing beside the road, with a horseless rider walking down toward us, and kept the horse company (and safe) until rider and horse had a reunion.”
I can see that scenario. It is the stopping for some cattle that is strange to me.
Is the victim’s name TyJuan Brawley?
The truth isn’t wat is important here, it is the seriousness of the charge!
BS
So where is Al Sharpton when you need him?
Sometimes, loose livestock block the road. I’ve been surrounded by sheep, while a single shepherd tries to get them out one gate, across the road, and through another. In those cases, i didn’t get out to help, but there’s no reason I couldn’t have.
I call BS on this.
Sounds much, much more likely than lynching in 2008!
He will get away with it because “hate crime” laws were designed to put White people in jail, and only White people.
I have been to the country, I have been blocked by wildlife (herd of deer rather than cows), although I’ve never experienced a prolonged delay. And a bunch of racist crackers might very well have shown up. For all of these events to have come together at the same time however is, to me, more unlikely than likely. Like I said, I’d put $100 down that this story is partially if not completely false.
Or maybe I just can’t comprehend that there may be idiots out there that would see a black man and say “Let’s hang him.”
It’s been done a hundred times, a lot of those bastards are still living so what do you think they teach their children?
