AP tally: Obama clinches Democratic nomination
Yahoo News ^ | 6/3/08

Posted on 06/03/2008 10:37:55 AM PDT by Dawnsblood

Barack Obama effectively clinched the Democratic presidential nomination Tuesday, based on an Associated Press tally of convention delegates, becoming the first black candidate ever to lead his party into a fall campaign for the White House.

Campaigning on an insistent call for change, Obama outlasted former first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton in a historic race that sparked record turnout in primary after primary, yet exposed deep racial divisions within the party.

The AP tally was based on public commitments from delegates as well as more than a dozen private commitments. It also included a minimum number of delegates Obama was guaranteed even if he lost the final two primaries in South Dakota and Montana later in the day.

The 46-year-old first term senator will face Sen. John McCain of Arizona in the fall campaign to become the 44th president.

The problem is that the Super Delegates don’t count until they actually vote. This isn’t over. The AP saying it is doesn’t make it over.

That would mean the Democrats lose just about all of their support from blacks unless they can make it look like those evil Republicans did it.

The AP tally was based on public commitments from delegates as well as more than a dozen private commitments.

Private commitments aren't commitments at all in the political world, and not a whole lot more can be said for public ones.

Now, I'm not saying it's at all likely that Hillary will pull it off, but it's a bit premature to say that Obama has "clinched" anything.

AP is whistling past the graveyard. The Super D’s can change votes right up until the floor vote in Denver.

This is not over yet. Expected Clinton victories today in South Dakota and Montana will further bolster the argument that Obama has not fared well since Rev. Wright.

And the Witch has a looooooonnnggg memory.

It ain’t over until Herself, still the Cold and Joyless, SAYS it’s over.

And she has the names of every one of the superdelegates on autodial. They will be hammered unmercifully from now until the first vote in Denver in August.

Oh, she won’t release it herself. She’ll leak it to Fox News, I imagine.

Problem is, it will only really hurt the Democrat Party with blacks if they fail to nominate Obama. That’s going to be bad for them no matter how it comes about.

That’s why, even if Hillary does take it to the convention, there’s no way she’s going to win in the end. The super-delegates aren’t about to commit Party suicide for her sake. I don’t think that will stop her from trying, though.

Doug, you must go further. Nothing is certain even AFTER they vote on the floor. You know that—probably better than anyone.

The Clintons have no scruples, no shame, and no end to the evil they will unleash to get what they require.

You are absolutely correct. The party of J. Flipfloppin’ Kerry has already seem a number of ‘committed’ Hillary superdelates flip over to Osamabama, they can still flop back before the August vote. I doubt Hillary and the ‘scorned women’ of America are giving in so easy. Many of their blogs are furiously fratricidal. Will we be surprised if the Clinton’s have a number of Aces to play. We need Hillary to win, then lose in November. With Osamabama’s rockstar’status it won’t be McCain v. OHB it will be McCain and a few sensible people v. ‘world opinion’. Sorry.. got carried away. All presidential elections are crucial... this one particularly so.. WOT, Iran, Iraq, N.Korea, oil, food, on and on...

“........Here’s wishing that the hildebeast pulls an extraordinary white rabbit out of the hat!”......

Oh really?

You have absolutely no recollection of what the GD Clintons have done to this country, do you?

Unbelievable. In your post you reveal exactly how the Clintons and their minions have utilized the race card to garner support from people like you to get in the back door of the WH once again. And make no mistake about it, it’s the Hillary camp inciting this. I myself could give a flying **** if someone wants to call me a silly racist name. It’s of no effect.

Hillary and Bill have proven over and over again that they are far more dangerous than any other american politicians. I thought we FReepers at least understood that!!!

All of a sudden we tough, no-nonsense conservatives are as touchy and wussy as Reverend Al about the whispers of some stupid-ass namecalling! Grow the f*** up!

Hillary will be certain to acknowledge the debt she owes to you and your OP-CHAOS pals when she waddles to the podium to take the oath of office. Bill will also be there to shake your hands. Pull a white rabbit out of the hat, ha ha ha??

Are you friggin’ NUTS???

It’s really amazed me to see racial animosity in this campaign among Democrats. Democrats constantly lecture about diversity, tolerance, and that only they are enlightened enough to be color-blind, gender-blind, ethnicly blind.

Well, one of these talking head people said that Democrats can’t win with only African-Americans and egghead liberals.

The funny thing is, these “hard working white” voters who Hillary has attracted in the primaries have been voting more in recent years for Republicans in presidential elections. A good number of “Hillary” voters in the primary would not have voted for her in the general election, and certainly not Obama.

Stock market apparently doesn't like the news. The Dow started plunging as soon as this story hit the wires. Look at the intra-day chart:

You know, Obama is going to try to raise taxes through the roof, especially on capital gains and dividends, and this will absolutely kill the market.

Elite Democrats showed their r.a.c.i.s.t. colors at a campaign fundraiser for Howard Dean in winter 2004. Apparently, there was the dissing of all religions especially the Jews, White and Black people. The fundraiser was attended by wealthy Black and White supporters in NYC.

With the elite Democrats is a situation of do as I say --> only I can do as I do.

All-American Democrats have not caught on to the fact that the Democrat Party has been hijacked by the communists, marxist, eco-terrorists, etc. who now call themselves the Democratic Party.

They've labeled their followers * progressives * BUT there is NOTHING progressive about taking America back to racism as we've all witnessed during the Democratic Primary.

According to rumor, Rush Limbaugh's Operation Chaos has been the vehicle that kept the Hildabeast going. That is, he encouraged the Republicans and Independents who listen to him to vote for Hildabeast. Whether they did or not...shrug...

But looking on the bright side --> Hope the Hildabeast is finished tonight.

If John McCain picks someone who'd be dynamite with the economy then he's a shoe-in.

Obama can be beat... and I don't think we've even seen the tip of the iceberg on scandals associated with him and his wife (who, by the way, appears to be a psycho).

That would mean the Democrats lose just about all of their support from blacks unless they can make it look like those evil Republicans did it.

That makes no sense at all. Why would the Dems make Hillary the nominee because of something the Reps released? Wouldn't the Dems resist having the Reps select their nominee?

In any event, the Dems are stuck with Obama. There is no way that the Dems can throw Obama under the bus at this stage no matter what his wife might say on the tape, if it exists. Blacks are their most loyal constituency. "Stealing" the nomination from the black guy will have far reaching consequences not only for this election but for many more to come. The Dems want to be the home party for all minorities who will be the majority by 2050. Far better to lose this election than jeopardze their future prospects.

For now, the Dems are between a Barack and a hard place.

Assuming his campaign doesn't have any surprises which would force the superdelegtes (aligned or not) to vote for Hillary at the convention. He's the "presumptive" nominee barring any "surprises".
