A Long Island woman has filed a lawsuit against American Airlines claiming the carrier endangered her 4-year-old son by serving peanuts on her flight, Newsday reported.
Tehmina Haque says she was assured several times that peanuts would not be served, but flight attendants changed the plan without notice during her April 18 flight to Los Angeles.
Her lawsuit claims she was “tense and fearful .. that her son would have an anaphylactic reaction while imprisoned 35,000 feet in the air,” according to Newsday.
An American Airlines spokesman would not comment on the lawsuit.
The carrier’s peanut allergy policy reads:
“American recognizes that some passengers are allergic to peanuts. Although we do not serve peanuts, we do serve other nut products and there may be trace elements of unspecified peanut ingredients, including peanut oils, in meal and snacks. We make no provisions to be peanut-free.
"Additionally, other customers may bring peanuts on board. Therefore, we cannot guarantee customers will not be exposed to peanuts during flight and strongly encourage customers to take all necessary medical precautions to prepare for the possibility of exposure.”

I didn’t realize that a reaction like that could occur while merely being in the presence of peanuts...but honestly, if he didn’t have a reaction, don’t sue!
Well, I wonder when the nanny state nazis will forbid any nut snacks on any airline even if carried on by passengers?

I was at a social gathering recently where one of the mothers claimed her children were allergic to peanuts. I had seen two of the three kids eat a handful of peanuts. They ran around normally all night. My conclusion was that the mother with the three allergic kids is trying to impose her will on everyone else...or maybe she only has one allergic kid and is completely innumerate.
I am sick of the peanut nazis. If you or your kid are allergic to peanuts, avoid places where they are common. If you expect me to deal with your condition, do not expect a long life expectancy.
Great way to get a couple mil out of a stone.
Future nanny state ping, I am sure.
They just didn’t server her enough peanuts.
I hope she has to pay a heafty lawyers bill when she loses!

What a peanut brain! tell her to put her son in a bubble and No to any travel. And for shame on the scurvy lawyer low enough to sue in this flagrantly disgusting abuse of the law. From now on I will always carry an extra large jar of peanuts on board and will ostentatiosly munch on each PEANUT spreading its salts and dust around as I munch, hoping she is in the next seat. Dont take any crap American Airlines, fight this one with tooth and nail! Beyond STUPID!!:-P
