He did a terrible job! And he’s had all of this time out of the limelight to work on such a speech. And someone needs to tell him to stop with the full toothed phony grin.

Yes! I'm sorry to say it, but McCain's "full toothed phony grin" really turned my stomach... really makes him look old and creepy. And I'll be voting for him this fall. How many fence-sitters/undecideds will also be creeped out and go for Obama's style over McCain's substance? (Well, the best "substance" we've got among the candidates, I guess...)

Republicans don’t have equally large crowds for protests or speeches because Republican voters are employed. Republican voters are the silent majority, not the loud professional protestors and grandstanders.

McCain is doing very well right now. To be statistically tied at this point in the race? Dukakis had a 17% lead at this point on GHWB and lost. Kerry and Gore had large leads on GWB and got their rear ends handed to them. No, unless something changes the current dynamics will mean a McCain landslide. Republicans always do better as the public has more time to compare them to their Dem counterparts and as a rule about 5% better than the election day polls.

Really the only way I see McCain losing this is a major blunder on his part.

I DO know it can’t be Romney. He just hasn’t connected.

Couldn't disagree more.

Romney would put in play Michigan, Massachusetts, and the NorthWest (perhaps) --- and would energize the conservative base which is now absolutely demoralized.

Just look at all the supporters Romney had in the analyzing pundit media, and that could translate into a LOT of free and energized publicity.

Ingraham, Beck, Limbaugh, Prager, the list goes on and on....

McCain desparately needs some credibility on domestic issues, and I think Romney fits that bill perfectly.

Not to mention his in-place organization, his globs of money and fund-raising ability.

Consider: Romney STILL has the second most popular votes among Republican candidates -easily smooshing Hucklebee even though Romney dropped out two months before HUcklebee.

If not mistaken ,Romney ALSO has more delegates than Hucklebee (very close if not more) ----

Yes, there is one faction of the GOP who hates Romney ... the anti-Mormon blindboys who continue to cling to 20-year old YouTube snippets in a vile attempt to claim Romney is a liberal.

We don't need them.

You want to take away the right of woman and African-Americans and poor people to vote? You’re no conservative I would want to associate myself with...

I was referencing women, the landless, and those under 21, obviously the Founding fathers were against these groups voting for obvious reasons.

These groups didn't have the vote until the last 80 years or so, they have given us Roosevelt 3 times, Kennedy, Clinton twice, Gore the popular vote, and now Obama is the Democrat nominee.

It may be too late to take away their right to vote but it is certainly OK for Conservatives to understand and talk about why their country is going to hell.

The reasons of the Founders for voting limitations were good ones. “Progress” is not always such a good thing.

uhhh....right. And before they got the vote, we got Jefferson, Jackson, Van Buren, and the corrupt, forgettable presidents of the gilded age. Of course, we also got Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt.

After they got the vote, we got Nixon, Eisenhower, Reagan, and both Bushes. It’s pretty much a wash.

Meanwhile, the poor actually tend to vote Republican (check your stats); 18-21 year olds barely vote in any numbers that matter; you might have a point about women, but to say they shouldn’t vote is asinine.
