There's the problem. What are our schools doing being so judgmental? Who's to say what sort of "moral character" is "sound?" I hope none of those Christians are involved in this scandal.

Well?....If the Christian teachers went along with it to get along, then their example certain taught all the children some powerful lessons about Christianity. The students learned that Christians are weak and timid, and will compromise their principles for a paycheck.

What student will want to join or stay in a religion with weak and timid people who will sell their principles for a paycheck?

I'm all for Christian teachers in the government schools provided they are brave and courageous Christians who will protest and meaningfully act. Unfortunately such behavior would get them fired. Well....If they can't be brave, then maybe they should quit. If Christ spits the lukewarm out of his mouth, I am not surprised that students do as well.

One afternoon (after school) one of them walked up to me, grabbed the front of my shirt, twisted it and pushed me up against the chain link fence

Your story does have that prison gang feel to it...complete with chain link fencing surround an exercise yard that looks very much like those in prisons.
